View the latest post Attachment(s) Lewmar Concept 1 windlass

Hi guys looking at getting a new windlass from a friend. It is the Lewmar concept 1 it is new unit with a used gypsy on it, new gypsy was taken for another windlass. Gypsy on it is very usable. I can get it for next to nothing thinking 200 bucks. I know this is a obsolete windlass, but does anyone have experience with one? My current windlass is a Simpson Lawrence sprint 1000 which needs a new motor (cost is $450).

I will attach a pic thanks.

View the latest post Attachment(s) Any issues after adding extended swim platform

New to the forum and in the process of purchasing a 1997 350 Mariner. I'm considering adding a 4' extended swim platform (which would double the current size) and wondering if anyone has experienced any performance problems after adding an after-market swim platform? Specifically wondering if the extended swim platform would interfere with performance while accelerating - i.e., cause difficulty getting boat to plane - or cause problems decelerating with water coming over the back of the platform. I've looked online - and have found suppliers who have created similar sized platforms for 350 Mariners - but just wondering about owners' experiences. The photo below is the type of swim platform I'm considering. Thanks

View the latest post Carver Mariner Automatic Shore Power / Generator Transfer Switch

My 1999 Carver Mariner has an Automatic transfer switch for the 110V system. How does this work? I would like to put in an Pure Sign Power Inverter so I can make a quick cup of coffee or microwave something with out firing up the noisy generator. How would it go about attaching this to the system?

View the latest post Attachment(s) Carver Mariner 350 Anchoring Technique

I know how to anchor. My question lies in how do you secure the deployed anchor to the boat? Obviously the anchor is deployed by the windlass and held fast by the chain gypsy. The gypsy is just a clutch and can move under enough load, Plus I've heard that it is not good the the windlass to have all the boats weight yanking in it at anchor. I've watched a lot of sailing videos over our long winter her up North (there are not that many power boat ones). It seams the popular way to secure the rode to boat is to uses an "Y" shaped anchor snubber attached to the port and starboard bow cleats and clip it to the chain. The "Y" shape helps steady the boat at anchor. Then let some slack out to remove tension from the windlass. That is all well and good, but on my Carver Mariner the port (1) and starboard (3) cleats do not have any backing material under them. They through bolted into just fiberglass. Clear #2 has a metal backing plate. If I attach to the center cleat (2), I don't have much stability. If I attach to the cleats 1 and 3, I'm afraid that I'm going to damage the deck. I might try to attach a metal backing plate to cleats 1 and 3, but I'm not sure it will be enough surface area because of it's location next to the deck storage lockers and the hull.

What do other people do?

View the latest post Carver 366 broken side window fix?

Left the the folding side window open while docking & smashed it against the end post. Of course it's the other side from the finger. Looking at the the other good side, it looks like the glass fits into a channel & maybe slides out?

Just happened late afternoon today & not really had time to look at it closely. If anyone has had an experience of how easy or not it is to replace, I'd welcome some comments.

We are forecasted to have a cyclone " Gita " passs through in 2-3 days time so I need to get onto it ASAP. :-(

View the latest post Navi lights not working now.

Hi All,

Trying to troubleshoot my navi lights on bow and white light up top on arch not turning on. Neither are turning on and my bridge lights and instrument lights all work fine. Can't imagine all 3 bulbs went out at the same time...checked to make sure it was turned on in the panel below the TV in the salon and it's on. Are there fuses some where I can look to see if that's the issue? I have a 1997 350 Mariner...

Many thanks!

Rick

View the latest post 89 Carver 2557 black water holding tank

I’m noticing smell and some leaking in between the 2 tanks on either side of the small access door in the floor. I’m wondering if anyone has dealt with the black water tank ? I’m thinking the carpet has to be pulled up and hopefully there’s a panel to open up. I’m also curious if anyone has replaced the sewer hoses. Any help or advice would be appreciated
John
