View the latest post Dock Lines

Looking to replace my 3 year old dock lines. Googling the question, "Best Dock Lines" I got some direction. First nylon is the best line type of choice. Second twisted 3 strand then braided nylon. Well 3 strand twisted style lines are quite course in my book, where braided nylon it a lot smoother and softer. Next what is the optimum diameter and length to carry? The boat is 41' overall, and I have been running 25'-5/8" lines. The lines I presently have are braided ? (not nylon I'm thinking) and tan color and after a season or so they have gotten to leave your hands to feeling waxy after you touch them. Brought them home and thru them in the washer with mild soap and softener and thought that would help, but no same feeling. They are not hard or stiff, just leave this waxy dirty feeling on your hands. Now I question what diameter to get because the price per line from 1/2" to 5/8" jumps like $ 10.00 a line for the same length. Color, I'm thinking of going back to plain black so the UV rays don't seem to effect the lines as much as white and colored lines. Just throwing this out here for seasoned opinions and as always thanks! :captain:

View the latest post Crown head not getting water

Hi all, over winter the crown head failed to flush properly. The grinder makes noise and if I pour a glass of water into the toilet it will flush it down normally, but water does not enter the bowl as it normally does. The water pump is on and water flows from the faucets and shower normally. I’m not sure what to check? Thank you!

View the latest post Haul Out, Items to check?

Getting ready to have a Bottom Job done on our 1995 430 Carver. Besides this and checking the Thru Hulls,
what other items should we have checked, or be concerned with while the boat is on the hard? Thank you.

View the latest post Starboard Vibration

Towards the end of last season I started to experience a Starboard vibration on my 06 Carver 41 CMY.

You can't feel anything at idle bit at around 3000 rpms it becomes very noticeable.

After haul out I visually inspected the prop and shaft and could not see anything obvious.

I'm running 8.1 gassers

Any suggestions on what it could be and troubleshooting I can do before having the marina look at it.

View the latest post 504 Owners?

Good Morning All!

We have recently become enamored with 504 Cockpit Motor Yacht model. So far, we've only seen it in photos but it sure looks like it was tailor-made for our needs.

One of the nicest features in the engine room access. On our old boat, a 1986 Chris Craft Catalina, the engine room access was a removable hatch in the salon floor. No ladder, no steps, and while you're working in the engine room, everyone else had to be careful walking around in the salon. The 504 engine room is apparently accessed by lifting the forward stairs and stepping down a couple of steps. I'm guessing it's not stand up height, right? I'm 5'10". Stooping over a little isn't a big deal. What about access to the outboard sides of the engines? Easy enough to get around there to change impellers and hoses? Anything that's really hard to reach like shaft seals or a certain bilge pump? Are the rudder shaft seals under the stairs/settee in the master stateroom?

We don't know what we don't know so any tips or guidance would be appreciated. Any design issues that are a problem?

Thank you very much.

View the latest post Attachment(s) Lewmar Concept 1 windlass

Hi guys looking at getting a new windlass from a friend. It is the Lewmar concept 1 it is new unit with a used gypsy on it, new gypsy was taken for another windlass. Gypsy on it is very usable. I can get it for next to nothing thinking 200 bucks. I know this is a obsolete windlass, but does anyone have experience with one? My current windlass is a Simpson Lawrence sprint 1000 which needs a new motor (cost is $450).

I will attach a pic thanks.
