replacement microphone

Postby tgebler » March 12th, 2022, 2:10 pm

Anyone have any suggestions in location a replacement microphone or do I have to breakdown and buy a new VHF radio. I would also appreciate a recommendation for a radio. I boat on the rivers around Pittsburgh soo long distance transmission is unnecessary. Primarily use the radio to contact the lock master.

I am providing a pic of the old microphone.

Consider getting a good quality handheld, can be used off the boat as well......
The above is strictly my opinion always based on years of doing...remember to support local business , it pays back.

There's a place in Florida that specializes in repairing marine equipment. I'll see if I can dig up the contact info for them.

What's wrong with the mic? Just 'not work', or is there a physical problem like a broken cord?

EDIT: Looked up the contact info for the place I was thinking about. I have not used them, but have seen several good referrals:
It is Max Marine - Pompano Beach... 754-220-6565
Max or Julian are the contact folks there (but anyone could probably field the repair question)

Also wonder if Raymarine might be an option. They do repair old out-of-warranty equipment and most of their stuff has the Raytheon heritage.

Here's another interesting find on ebay -- a place the specializes in repairing VHF equipment, including microphones

I plan to contact them regarding replacing the cord on our mic, which has/is disintegrating from UV presumably
