444 CPMY. 50 amp power cord adaptor

Postby Foster15 » June 18th, 2017, 6:07 pm

I have 50 amp adapter with female on one end and male on other. The male end says it is 50 amp 250 volt but is missing one prong. 2001 444 CPMY is new boat to me and there are two of these aboard.

I will try to attach picture.

Do not under any circumstances use that adaptor. A 50 amp cord uses 4 prongs. A 30 Amp cord uses 3 prongs. A suicide cord, uses 2 prongs.

The plug shown is definitely a 50a 125/250V style which can be identified by the ground connection style on the inner face of the body however there is 1 prong missing as mentioned. The 4th connection is part of the body which serves as ground and therefor only 3 pins are required. You could salvage it by replacing the end with this. https://greatlakesskipper.com/furrion-f ... boat-power

Nothing dangerous about the plug, just that it is missing a hot prong and therefor will only supply 125v. Probably modified to suit the owners shore power at his location. That being said I would not use it, definitely need to change the end.

Almost looks like someone was trying to get one side of the 250v feed to make it 125v...hard to see in pic, but is there a hole where there was another pin ??.....as mentioned above I would not advise the use of any modified adaptors.
The above is strictly my opinion always based on years of doing...remember to support local business , it pays back.

The third prong hole is plugged. The knock out is still in place. I'd try contacting the previous owner and ask what they used them for and why!

Thanks for all the replies. Mike was correct; it seems the factory knockout on the one pin is still in place. Could Carver have done this as our 444 used 50 amp 125 volt 2 power cord system?

Foster, Carver would not do that. Someone along the way modified or made that. I would NOT use that. There correct adapters are out there. I have seen them on shorepowercords.com website for under $300.
