Interested in a 4207

Postby Hwebb55 » September 12th, 2022, 10:22 am

Hi this is Howard, I’m new to the forum. My wife and I are both longtime boaters and also enjoy sailing, I have my Bareboat sailing certifications. We are looking at a 1987 4207 as our next boat. I’m approaching retirement and looking for a comfortable, roomy motor yacht. We’re in Missouri and the 4207 would be on a very large lake here (Lake of the Ozarks). The boat appears to be in very good condition with many upgrades. We’ve looked at several 4207s and this one is by far the nicest, but the price seems a bit high even so. It has the Crusaders not diesels, but again it’s a lake, so speed or fuel efficiency aren’t really a concern.

Any advice or anyone here willing to chat on a call before I pull the trigger would be most appreciated?

Thanks,
Howard

Gas is fine for a small lake. Forget gas on a Great Lake or the ocean.
How many hours on the engine and how new are the electronics, if any? I would imagine a small lake would mean no radar or other fancy electronics.
Asking price?
Thanks

Is that the one listed on yachtworld for $82k? Agree, it looks to be in very good condition, but I also have a problem with that price on a 35 year old Carver, especially with gas.
With the insane prices people have been getting for boats the past few years starting to fall, I’m guessing it will still be on the market in the spring.
One thing I noticed, the broker lists the boat having V-drives. I would hope any broker I was dealing with was a little more boat knowledgeable.

I also noticed something about the shore power connections. If you are really interested in this boat, you need to know about these connections.

Welcome aboard, and good luck with the purchase!! (if not this one, then whatever you end up with!)

Post up your questions. There's a lot of good feedback on this forum and many different folks will weigh in with a lot of different things to consider. The 4207's are definitely nice big boats, with some nice styling!

Hi, we had a Carver 1989 4207 with twin 3208 Cats for 8 years. If you want a comfortable cruiser that you can spend weeks on end on, this is the right boat for that! It’s the biggest 42’ boat period!
Great choice of boat if you can find one in good shape.
Hope you find a great boat!
