View the latest post Newb Checking in! 1988 Carver 3807

Hey all! Just closed the deal on my new (to me!) 1988 Carver 3807! It's currently in Hamilton, Ontario, and I'll be moving it up through the Trent-Sevren system onto Lake Simcoe early this summer. Excited and terrified!!

View the latest post -Anyone install a vertical windlass?

Hi all, so I'm upgrading the windlass on our Carver 4207
I'm fairly confident that a vertical windlass is a better option as I support their design characteristics in that they do indeed get more gypsy-wrap, etc.
Questions though:
1) Is there indeed enough room in the underside 'locker' for the vertical windlass motor?
2) I'm thinking of going with Good Windlass, any other recommendations?
Thanks in advance!

View the latest post 1977 Mariner 3396 height?

I'm in the middle of selling my 1977 Carver Mariner 33...

Looking for shipping quotes and they want the height from bottom of hull to top of windshield.

Anyone own one that is dry docked, or know where I could find this information?

View the latest post Bilge Fans 86 Carver Aft Cabin

Hi all, I'm hopeful several of you can offer a solution to our bilge fan issue. We have two bilge fans for engine venting prior to starting or when needed. Both fans worked last year when boat was winterized and wrapped. They did not work when the boat was placed back in the water 3 weeks ago.

I disconnected the power and ground wires to the fans and checked voltage while switching both bilge fan switches independently on. With either switch on the wire leads to the bilge fans have 12+ volts.

I then thought, OK maybe the fans both stopped working. I connected each fan to one of the batteries in the boat and both immediately worked.

Next, I connected the fans back up and tried each switch. Fans did NOT work. Ok, scratching my head a little now.

With the fans connected I then checked the voltage again while independently turning on each fan switch. ZERO volts with the fans connected???

Why would I get a good volt reading with the fans disconnected but ZERO volts with the fans connected?
Is this a relay issue or possibly a ground issue?

I have a wiring diagram but I'm unsure what the relays look like or where I can find the common ground location for the bilge fans. (It appears that several components ground to a central location)

Also, the 12 volt panel has a switch to cut bilge fan power, but this was in the on position while performing my checks.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

View the latest post 405 salon A/C unit

The unit behind the salon couch seems to be installed wrong as it is impossible to clean the filter and coils since they are facing the outside of the boat. No room or way that I can figure out how to clean as I do not want to damage the coils. Anyone else have a similar situation? My friends suggestion is to remove the unit and turn it around but this will involve redoing duct work and plumbing....appreciate any advice or suggestions.

View the latest post '89 Montego 3257 with 7.4 Bravo Engine: Replacing the Ignition Control Module

Our '89 Montego 3257 has twin 7.4 Liter Mercruiser Bravo 454 engines. The port engine was running rough and it appears it needs a new Ignition Control Module Problem: No parts available. The ICN conversion kit we would like to use is 806961A01, but is our of production.

Any ideas on where to get a replacement ICM? IF not, any ideas on how to replace the ICM with a new kit?

Thanks!

Thomas

View the latest post 4207 Listing to Starboard

Hi, I purchased a 1987 4207 in September and have noticed it has a slight lean to the aft starboard corner, maybe an inch or so. It’s most noticeable on the aft deck. There is another 4207 at our marina that has the same list in the same corner.
Does anyone know if this a common thing with the model, or something I should be concerned about?

Thanks!

Can any tell me difference between 8.1 Gil-E and 8.1 Gi-E Are there any electrical difference?

I was told L stands for inboard. Not sure if that makes sense. They are both inboards.

Any information would help. Trying to take cable Harness from from to the other.

View the latest post Attachment(s) Diesel fuel filter water separator

Can anyone explain the purpose of the large plastic screw on top of my fuel filter/water separator? This is connected to my diesel geny and the screw started leaking when the tanks were filled with diesel. The boat is also sloped forward on dry dock for removal of the shafts. The screw is connected to a brass rod that goes into the filter housing. Last night I opened the screw a few turns and it stopped the leaking, no sign of any seepage when I returned this morning. I have changed the filter and cleaned the bottom bowl. Assuming this is for bleeding or ? How do I adjust this for proper operation.
Thank-you
