View the latest post Windless Issue

Hello crew. Recently I noticed that my Maxwell windless was neither dropping or lifting the anchor. No response from the control. So I was thinking that it might be a bad connection and I sprayed an electronic corrosion product into the switch and it started to work....or so I thought.
Yesterday as I was dropping the anchor (my 2005 Mariner has 150 ft of chain), it quit working. I flicked the switch on/off thinking it was the connection but then realized that it was getting power because I heard a 'whirring' sound at the motor but no chain action. I attached the manual crank and found out that it the chain is frozen in place. The chain cannot be moved in either direction.
All thoughts and advice are welcomed. I am hoping that I will not have to replace this expensive item.

View the latest post engine differences for wiring harness

what is difference between 8.1 Gil- E and 8.1 GiL - D

I need Wiring Harness 3863229 for my 8.1 GiL -E..They do not make anymore. I want to replace with 3862623 from 8.1 Gil - D

Volvo website does not have a replacement for 3863229 according to website. But how far off can 3862623 be? I have no choice. Other one burned in a fire.

Any suggestions would really help.

View the latest post Attachment(s) Seastar leak at fittings

I sold my Carver and have a trawler now, but thought I would lean on this community’s experts since I received so much great advice from folks her over the years.

I have a Seastar hydraulic steering system. I recently had a yard install an Auto Pilot. The tech had a lot of problems stopping leaks at the fittings. I checked today, and there is still two small leaks at the fittings in the lazarette.

The setup is this. I have 3/8” hydraulic lines coming from the helm. Two of them each attach to a 3/8” tee which the bottom of the tee attaches to the hose going to the ram. The other arm (top of the tee) goes into a 600 WOG valve. All of this was originally from the manufacturer. The other end of the valve is used to attach to the 3/8” Seastar hose to the pump.

The return line from the helm feeds into its own shutoff valve, and then a hose is attached to the pump return.

He also attempted to attach a Furuno SafeHelm2 between the starboard hose and the tee fitting. That leaked, he took it off, re-attached the hose to the tee and it remains uninstalled. He replaced the 600 WOG 3/8” valve with 1000 WOG 3/8” valves.

It is now weeping at the return valve on the pump side. It is also weeping between the starboard tee and the valve.

I have moved the boat to a new yard, and plan to order new fittings and replace the work the tech “completed”. I would like to order the fittings but am not sure what tee I need. I am attaching a picture of the original tee, original 3/8” valve, and 3/8” fitting. Or, alternatively, can I just tighten the offending connections? The sealant is gasoila soft set.

Sorry for the length but hope someone here can help. Any advice would be appreciated.

View the latest post Port engine cuts off after about 15 minutes

I have a 1976 mariner with a Ford 351 Windsor. After idling or running in gear for about 15 minutes it will cut off. Engine doesn't show that it's overheating and battery indicator shows it has power so I'm not sure what's going on I'm able to start it back up as long as I have juice in the battery Change the coil, thinking that was the problem but didn't resolve it. Coil has an internal ballast resistor as recommended prior to the ones I installed, it did not have a resistor. Could use some advice. Thank you.

View the latest post 500 CPMY Fuel Tank Capacities

I recently purchased a 1996 500 CPMY that has two main tanks near the 6CTA engines and two auxiliary tanks near the transom. I know that the total capacity is 680 gallons but I have been unable to figure out how much fuel the individual tanks hold. Anyone have an idea or can point me in the right direction?
