View the latest post Stuck sea cock

My aft seacock for the aft head was kit exercises by the marina this past winter. It is pretty stick in the open position and I put some pressure in it but certainly didn’t want to break it off from the hill being a 1094 vintage. I do have a locked y valve before it.

Anyway I remember a few years ago I looses the tension but and sprayed and tapped a bit with a hammer and was able to get it freed while in the water. Any suggestions how I should approach this while in the water?

View the latest post Small 12v Blade Style Fuse Box

Came across this which is dirt cheap and does have small led indicators that light up if a fuse is blown. Needed something for my project I have going on to reduce 120v power requirements and convert to DC. For a few dollars more there is also a 12 slot version available. Thought I would share. https://www.amazon.ca/Extractme-Upgraded-Thumbscrew-Indicator-Protection/dp/B089NQQPRW/ref=sr_1_13?crid=21UF518Z9AEIR&keywords=small+12v+fuse+panel&qid=1682858440&sprefix=small+12v+fuse+panel%2Caps%2C78&sr=8-13

View the latest post Fusion Apollo

Hi Guys. So, Just before we put the boat in the water, I started up all my systems after connecting the batteries. All my 120V work great and lots of power to my 12V panel. Start turning on the main systems, all good except for one. One I hold very close to my heart, the music. The Apollo will not turn on. Nada, nothing. Tried doing the reset as per Fusion, nothing. All types of thoughts going through my mind. So, double check all the breakers, all good. Remove the Fusion , check the harness for power, all good. Check the fuse on the Fusion, all good. Crap, that's not good. So, what I did was remove all the connectors in the back, main, ethernet, antenna. All connectors look perfect as the day I installed them. Reconnect the harnesses and such, then LIFE! Why? I have no clue. No connectors were loose or damaged. I'm thinking that this is more of a reset than holding the power button for 10 seconds. This is what happened to me so just passing it along.

3 more canvas panels with O’Sea replaced. These are only 3 years old. Moral: When someone says “I can save you a LOT of money on this…RUN do not walk! “

Like the Carvers but I’m still learning about them. I believe this is the right place to learn.

Going to look at an ‘89 tomorrow.

View the latest post Attachment(s) Solar Generator / Freezer Experiment

Solar generator is a little confusing as it is basically a gas free generator running off of a built in lithium battery with a pure sine wave inverter and AC charger and a bunch of other stuff all in a neat package. Much prefer the term Portable Power Station. Guessing the Solar part makes is sound more ecological. By no means are these things affordable by the way. The amazing part of this particular unit is it does pack 2000wh and yet can be recharged on an electrical outlet in a hair under 2hrs from 0% to 100%. The unit is large lunchbox size and will power anything a normal 115v, 15a receptacle will and then some. If my math is right, this is equivalent to about a 180ah LifePo4 battery. I run 600ah on Midnight Sun and just picked up anther 300ah to increase it to 900ah. :-D https://ca.jackery.com/products/explore ... er-station

Trying to see how long the generator will last running a portable fridge/freezer. The unit is set to -19C, obviously in freezer mode. So far it has been running for 24hrs and has consumed 21%. Unit was room temp when plugged in however there is no food inside or is it being opened and closed like one might normally do so the outcome will be a good 10% or more on the high side compared to real life. The unit is in my garage right now which is rather cool. Outside in very warm summer heat the unit will obviously consume quite a bit more. Will get a general idea though. May bring it to the boat in the heat of summer and do another experiment.

This is the fridge/freezer being used. Same as the Alpicool brand by the way. https://www.amazon.ca/VEVOR-Car-Refrigerator-Portable-Compressor/dp/B09T8Y28BZ/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=c50+vevor&sr=8-3

The generator is not for the boat however I figured this would be a good way to see how efficient these compressor style fridge/freezers actually are. It is plugged into the 12v receptacle which is only rated at 10a and is working fine. Electrical draw varies as the compressor meets demand, highest I have seen so far is 45w. Could be an interesting item to have on board if you don't mind the rather high price that is.

View the latest post Attachment(s) LAUNCH!

Today was launch day. I wanted to bribing her home to my marina, but storage marina said they did not finish their work. So reluctantly I agreed to let them finish up so I wouldn’t need to take over their work. Leaks checked for by the yard, and in we went and into a slip. Admiral and I went back 3 hours later as I always want to check things, and i was surprised to see the port shaft dripping, and the starboard with a good steady stream. In 3 hours, there was 5” in the starboard engine bilge. I called the emergency number and staff responded right away. They tightened up the starboard one. The port one was going to get tightened for the night too, but they only had the packing and gland nut finger tight. No, it shouldn’t have happened, but I do know that shaft stuffing boxes need to be tightened when in water with shafts turning. Anyway, we are in, shore power works great and fo now no leaks. They will finish up their work in teh next couple days and we will be heading home some afternoon next week.

I was putting up the bimini and saw some zippers need restitching…….I am so glad I have my Sailrite LSZ as I can stitch the zippers this weekend instead of being at the mercy of a canvas person.

View the latest post Attachment(s) Crusader 454xl no start

Hey guys I'm stomped I'm thinking a carb rebuild? When I put fuel into the carb it tries to start. So I took a loose the fuel line from the pump to see if it was working.... And of course fuel came out at a pretty good speed. So the fuel pump is working but still no start.... Again if I put fuel in the carb it tries to start cuts off after a second. Any ideas?

View the latest post Marine radio speaker options?

A friend's boat has a hailer on top of the radar arch and it has seen better days, what are some of the better choices? I see Shakespeare and other brands that I wouldn't use (Pyle and several off-brands) but really, have they improved over the decades?
