View the latest post Advice on managing bookings for my Carver

Hi all,

I’ve recently taken ownership of a Carver and am giving some thought to letting it out when I’m not using it. The more I think about it, the more I realise how tricky it can be to keep on top of bookings and availability, especially if you’re listing in more than one place. While looking into it, I came [Delete] that covers options for centralising and streamlining this sort of thing. I’m curious if any of you have tried something similar, or have found a good way of keeping things organised without too much hassle. Would be great to hear your thoughts.

View the latest post Attachment(s) Crusader 350XL 5.7 270HP LOCKED 94 Carver 300

Hello Everyone, I need some advice! We’re first-time boat owners of a 1994 Carver 300 Aft Cabin with twin Crusader 350 XL 5.7 engines, purchased in late 2021. The engines were rebuilt in 2019 at 535 hrs, purchased at 578 hrs and only put on 31 hrs. The boat is in FL and we are in IL are we were only going down once every 3 months until last year. After an oil change in July 2024, we used the boat for a week and closed it up. In October, Hurricane Milton hit, destroying the enclosure, but that appeared to be all until we arrived a few days later and tried starting the boat, and the port engine started right up but nothing from the starboard engine not even a click. We attempted to replace the starter and turn it manually but it is locked. We had 3 mechanics come out and they believe there are signs of water intrusion. The insurance company wants the engine taken apart further to determine liability, but we’ve already spent $2,000 on assessments, and we are paying $575 a month for slip fees plus insurance. I just want to sell the boat now due to my mom getting ill and I can no longer travel. We have contacted the FL department of insurance for intervention but all they said was the insurance has the right to determine liability and have the engine further disassembled and if they believe the engine had signs of intrusion from faulty parts we have to pay for the tear down. We’re considering selling the boat with one non-working engine but cannot find a broker who will list with 1 working engine. We want advice on whether to proceed with repairs while managing ongoing costs or sell as is. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

View the latest post Attachment(s) Thru hull transducer leak

So there are a couple of old thru hull transducers in my bilge that look like they are from the Stone Age. Neither functions at this point and I have already replaced the old electronics. I noticed on the weekend that one of them has a small weeping leak. They both appear to be threaded into a sleeve that’s epoxied into the hull. I was able to hand tighten the leaking one a half turn but it didn’t completely stop the leak. What ‘a my best course of action here? Boat will be pulled in a month or so. Remove and replace o rings? Can you purchase a blank for the hole and lose the old ducers? Clean and apply sealant? Pull them both and glass over? I should have taken some pics. I think they are from an old depth/speed log. Likely from mid 80’s.

Thanks

View the latest post Attachment(s) Onan generator field breaker replacement

Hey everyone. My circa 2002 Onan generator (10KW Model MDKWB) has a bad field breaker. Unfortunately there are no real identifying specs on the breaker itself other than the manufacturer, Airpax, and a bunch of patent numbers. (See pics attached)

I did find a part number in the parts manual: 320-1769. Unfortunately trying to search that hasn't yielded much either.

If I could get the specs/ratings I can get a like-for-like part, which is probably my best hope. I'm just not sure what ratings to look for.

I reached out to Airpax but no reply yet.

Thanks in advance!
Kyle

View the latest post Crusader 350XL won't start.

Boat: Carver 325, 1996, Crusader 350XL.electronic ignition, throttle body injectors.
Suddenly, I have no spark and no fuel at the injectors. Engine cranks normally. Everything I have done has made no difference. I have tried swapping the ECM and coil from the other engine. I replaced with new the ignition module in the distributor. I have no popped CB's on the engine, but I opened the CB box and and checked the function of all the CB's with a meter. I disconnected the main harness for the engine to look for any sign of damage or heat, it was normal, clean, undamaged. The fuel pump is working normally, with proper fuel pressure. I have also checked a lot of other wiring for security, damage, continuity, etc.. No spark and no fuel. I'm stumped.
Any input would be much appreciated.

View the latest post Voyager 53 bow thruster

Hello all, I have a problem with my voyager 53 bow thruster. It works when pushing to port but does not to starboard. I sent down a diver to check if the shear pin on any of the props has broke but they are both good. He said that while one prop ishaft s engaged the other is turning freely so probably a broken gear inside the leg. And here is the problem, my thruster is a QL SP 800 24volt and apparently discontinued. I would like to buy the lower leg of the unit but cannot find one or failing that buy a more modern bow thruster that would fit. Has anyone one here has any advice or had this problem. Any response will be very appreciated. Thank you

View the latest post Attachment(s) Engine maintenance

Hi everyone,
I think that I’m fairly knowledgeable about gas engines, at least I thought that I was until recently. One of my Volvo Penta 740b engines started missing on our latest trip, and I was shocked to find that both distributors had rusted so badly that the advance weights were frozen and the springs were actually missing.
I had changed the spark plugs last year and the engines seemed to be running fine, I thought, so I never even thought about a problem with the distributors.
Never take for granted that things are perfect under your distributor cap, be thorough when you’re doing a tune up on your engines!
