I like Sikaflex 291 better than 4200. My question is, how difficult is it to remove 291 when it comes time to re-bed? Thanks.

View the latest post Intro new to site

Greetings

I am new to this site and new to Carver boats. I am a retired Architect and live in Cascade, Colorado. I bought a 1989, Carver 2357 Montego last fall. The boat is in good condition with full canvas as well as a 4KW. Kohler gen set. My son lives with me and is my first mate responsible for maintenance and repairs as my health prevents me from doing the work myself although I am still very good at supervising. :)

Our primary boating lake is the Pueblo reservoir just west of Pueblo, Colorado @ elev. 4,119 ft. AMSL.

Happy Boating

View the latest post Leaking Fuel Tank Repaired

Leaking fuel tank repaired : Carver 4207 w/ CAT 3208s.

We repaired the starboard aluminum tank by installing an access plate near the aft end. Gaining access and machining the side of the tank to receive the access plate took more time than repairing the leak itself. Once the access port was ready, we cleaned, patched and sealed the tank bottom on the inside – then closed the access port.

Access was awkward but do-able; the leak (and the cause) were obvious; compared to other methods, the repair was relatively inexpensive; and, we have high confidence in the result. If it is ever necessary, it appears that the same repair could be done on the other side.

Because of poor tank access at the rear of the engine, I began the job by hiring a small mechanic to remove (and eventually re-install) some engine parts -- the exhaust pipe was particularly stubborn. His labor was 6 to 8 hours.

Other than that, I did the work. My part took two weeks and about 40 hours (estimated). The cost of parts, materials and tools (no labor) was under $1000.

Even with the engine parts removed, access is quite restricted -- the job is best done by someone 5’10” / 170-lbs or smaller. It will help if the repair person has considerable experience in multiple areas of boat repair.

If you would like details, send an email request to kreed60950@gmail.com.

View the latest post Attachment(s) Carver 356 Custom Rear Deck Sofa with Audio!!!

Hello All! I have searched far & wide trying to find outdoor furniture for the decks of various boats I have owned over the years. I have found that most all store bought furniture is made with straight lines & right angles.....but boat decks have none of these. Two years ago I purchased a 2001 Carver 356 aft cabin and love this boat so so much, but struggled to find outdoor seating furniture that didn't look wonky or was overly wasteful of the outdoor deck space. So why not make my own!?!?!?

This was a very ambitious project for me and my first ever attempt at upholstery work of any kind ... but a am really happy with how it turned out. It gives us a cozy place to sit on the deck, lots of storage space, built-in fusion stereo system with banging subwoofer, USB chargers on the front, built-in drainage plumbing to keep inside dry, hinged storage in backrest for all rear deck canvas windows, and much more. Semi-built-in table to be added next. Let me know what you think. If you want to see more photos of this project, check out the google photo link below.

View the latest post PROPS for 1988 3207 aft cabin

Can anyone help me find the correct props for a 1988 aft cabin? I'm super green. I know I need to either repair or replace the props, so I'm thinking about sending off the damaged one and then also buying a new set so I'll have a backup in the future. I could use recommendations for a place to send my props to get repaired as well as the specs of the props I should buy. Sorry if I'm asking the wrong questions and thanks for helping!

View the latest post Attachment(s) What have I done?!

I just bought a 1988 carver aftcab 32' liveaboard. I've never owned a boat before and I actually plan on fixing this up to live on it full time, at least for the summer. 35 year old single man so figure if I'm going to do this, now is the time. Glad I found this forum, I will probably need some advice and support!

*Pictures were not sideways when I uploaded them, not sure how to orient the attachments on here sorry*
