View the latest post 2002 506 owners manual?

Just closed the purchase of a 2002 506. I went through all the documentation and there was no owners manual for the boat. All the critical systems on the boat had an accompanying manual. Anyone out there know where I can get a manual?

View the latest post new member with "whats this for" questions on the model 405

Hello all, New kid on the block. After extensive research we settled on a Carver for our next boat and ultimately settled on a 405 as our preferred model choice. Took two years to find the perfect one and we are now proud owners of a very nice 1998 or 1999? Model 405.

A couple of quick questions for you other 405 owners or anyone for that matter.

Firstly, In the power cord locker on the transom port side there are two hose connections on the bottom under the power/cable/ phone connectors. One is labeled "Pressure Water" the other is labeled "starboard something" the rest of the decal is missing. Does anyone know what these are for? Note that there already is a shore fresh water connector on the starboard side so the one labeled "Pressure Water" cant be that. Any ideas?

Also, just before every raw water strainer for the engines, genny, and air cond pump, there is what appears to be bypasses of some sort which are all closed, anyone know what these are for? The plumbing is the same on all of them: from the raw water intake thru-hull it goes to a ball valve as normal then goes to a tee, the opposite side of the tee goes to a sea strainer then on to the respective engine or the air con pump. All completely as normal. However the other side of each of these tee's which are upstream ie "before" the strainers goes to closed ball valves. The outlets of these ball valves then go on to a sort of manifold affair which has a line that disappears toward the back of the boat. ......clear as mud eh?

Any suggestions or thoughts greatly appreciated!

View the latest post Attachment(s) VacuFlush trips Breaker

Wow! What a weekend. We spent the night on the Hook Friday night, temps down to about 43* with gentle breeze, makes for a great night of sleeping with waves tapping on the boat. FWIW, didn’t run genny while sleeping, but stayed nice and cozy!

However; it wasn’t without some issues.

- aft hvac kept giving an E01 error; May have fixed that after returning to the Marina. See separate thread; “E01 error code on Salon hvac”.

- after retrieving the anchor I found the pressure arm strap in pieces. Got 2 ordered. Understand that plastic strap breaking is common.

- And this thread’s topic- the forward VacuFlush trips the breaker when trying to pump the vacuum.

If there’s zero vacuum, the pump makes about 4 strokes then trips the breaker. If I quickly reset breaker, it makes about 1 stroke and trips again. I checked the wiring at the pump motor and pressure switch. I manually open/closed the pressure switch via the spring at the pressure switch and it functions. Upon returning to the marina I had the tank pumped and have an Empty light on the panel.

I don’t have a thorough understanding of the complete VacuFlush system, but doesn’t look complicated. Maybe you guys could give me a Primer??

But, I will add, our 4yo grand daughter spent the night with us and thoroughly enjoyed it. This was her bathroom, ahh, head. Can’t say for sure, but, could too much TP in the toilet prevent the vacuum pump from cycling and cause it to trip the breaker? If so, what do I do now??

Another Head issue I have is with the women folk. They don’t seem to understand, “Hold the flush pedal DOWN for 3 seconds”!

I have found a new pump motor online, but WOW, they’re really proud of them. The motor in question is OEM equipment as it has its 1998 sticker still attached. Just don’t want to throw parts at it if it’s not needed!!

Any comments appreciated!!

View the latest post 1976 Mariner 2896 stuffing box

So i'm going to tighten my stuffing box for the first time and was told the starboard shaft has left handed threads? Does that sound right? So would I loosen the lock nut by going clockwise instead of counter and the adjusting nut counter clockwise? Opposite for the port side I assume. And could they put that in a harder place to adjust under the V-drive?!? Thanks.

View the latest post New owner of a 84 Carver Mariner 3697

A pleasure to meet you all! I have a huge project for a boat but she seems like a good boat already. Her name is "Miracle" because my son said it was impossible to get her out of the marina. Will contribute what I can and definitely will read lots of your wisdom!

View the latest post Regarding Risers

I have Crusader 6.0 fresh water cooled engines. When I purchased the boat in 2017 I changed the risers because she was losing antifreeze.
My question for the crew: Do you schedule a change in risers as part of your maintenance schedule? If yes, how many years between changes. If no, when do you bother replacing them?
I had an issue with a tranny cooler once and had to replace the transmission due to the cooler failure. I plan to have those changed out along with the engine oil coolers every 5-6 years. I don't want to wait for those to fail because it's a very expensive proposition.
Just wondering your approach to this issue.
Thanks

Bringing the boat over to the marina for winter storage, blew the starboard Trans.
Is there a reliable rebuilder out there. As close to michigan as possible.
