View the latest post 2007 Carver Mariner help!
- Posted by: JPS » October 1st, 2022, 12:36 pm
- Forum: Gas Engines/Transmissions
I’m at wits end with my 2007 Carver Mariner equipped with 5.7 MPI Crusader gas engines.
The problem is that after about an hour of moderate load on the engines, during which time they idle well and both appear to be running well, but then out of nowhere both will begin to surge and after a few minutes of this, they will cut out all together.
Then I rest them for an hour and they will start up and give me another hour of seeming to work fine, then surge and cut out.
I’ve replaced all spark plugs, distributors and rotors, it just had a new oil and impeller change and the fuel injectors have been inspected and are clean. Most of the batteries are in good shape, 2-3 years old.
Can low power on the house batteries cause this? It’s my understanding that the house batteries and both engine batteries are charged off the same battery charger. I did let them get down to 60% as indicated by VictronConnect battery monitor. At that level I noticed the Ray Marine’s backlight wouldn’t light up much, but when I powered on the GenSet, it came back bright.
Anyone have any ideas?

View the latest post Hour meter on Aetna digital Tachometer is over run
- Posted by: Carpe Diem » October 1st, 2022, 1:01 am
- Forum: Diesel Engines/Transmissions
I am in the middle of a sale of my 200 506 with Volvo 74TAMD EDC engines. I have digital tachometers that double as hour meters. I never had a decent manual for the boat to understand even how to get the hours to display. The buyer's surveyor messed with the ignition switch and the Active Station button and got a figure that he thinks is the tach time. He found numbers left engine 2245 and right engine 2475. The engines have analog hour meters mounted next to them that read 635 and 627 respectively. When I bought the boat I was told the hours were the ones found on the ER meters and had no reason to believe otherwise. I had two surveys done and neither surveyor questioned the numbers. I spoke with the past two owners back to 2014 and they went by the ER meters as well. Both verified that they had operate the vessel a normal recreational boater 30 to 40 hours a year so it is very unlikely the boat has 2200 plus hours on it.
Question is, has anyone had this issue of their digital hour meter in their tach run away like this? I am trying to find a Tech with a Vodia soft ware analyzer to verify actual engine hours.
Another question is, were analog hour meters installed in Carvers at the factory or are these after market. I only have records back to 2014 on this boat.
Any help would be appreciated.

So what's everyone using/doing to prevent mildew on your decks? I have a remedy to get rid of it once it's there but, not
Prevention.

Had the boat hauled out this morning. Got everything out and ready for her winter nap. Just need to go back and winterize but I do have everything on board to do so. Never hauled this early, usually mid October for me then again September really sucked this year. Good news is I think I am done modifying Midnight Sun. No projects on the list for this winter.

I’m currently in the process of buying a 1988 Carver 3227 convertible to use for family fun and fishing in and around Oahu, Hawaii where I reside. It’s currently powered by a pair of Perkins T6.354 diesel engines and is in overall good condition. Any tips, tricks, advice, or comments on it would be appreciated. FYI this is my first experience with a carver but far from my first boat.

I have a 2004 Carver564CPMY, I was told the cockpit floor is removable, does anyone know for sure if it is removable or not? My old boat was a 1996 Carver500CPMY and it was not removable.
Thanks

- Forum: Introduce Yourself!
Howdy all Just wanted to jump in here and interduce myself. I have had Carvers for about 10 years now and just purchased another one. I started with a Carver500CPMY and just purchased a 564CPMY. We don't go out to sea much so this is the perfect vessel for us. I will up we purchased. On my 500 the cockpit floor was one piece and was not removable. We have to get a softspot fixed on the new boat and are being told the whole cockpit floor just screws in and can be removed. I am not sure I believe this for 2 reasons. 1) the size of the floor - if this comes out as a whole it would be at 18 feet by 8 feet or so. B) I am not sure what the purpose would be to make the floor removable except to maybe repair softspots. Thanks for the help!
