View the latest post 2000 406 diesel auxiliary fuel tank info

Hello, Hoping to get some info on aux fuel tank set up for a 406. From what I can tell, the port and starboard tanks each hold 97 gallons and the aux tank at the back holds 142 gallons. When I look at the fuel valves at the stern in the engine room there are 2 -3 way valves I believe they are labeled Port aux off and Starboard aux off. Both are currently pointed to the thier respective side. I assume if I wanted to draw from the Aux tank I would have to manually move the valve to the aux position for each one. I'm hesitant to try because I don't know how long the fuel has been there but we are getting ready to take and extended trip and I may need to draw from it. I'll plan on adding fresh fuel and carry a bunch of spare filters.

Any input would be appreciated!

Thanks!

View the latest post Attachment(s) Click Flooring

It's time to replace our carpeting throughout and my thoughts are leaning towards a wooden plank look rather than carpeting again. I'm looking at solid vinyl click planks rather than an engineered wood product because I simply don't want to worry about moisture, spills, leaks, etc.

Of the samples and instructions I've seen, it seems none of the household choices are designed to be exterior installs. They seem to all be targeted to interior installations where temperatures are steady year round but the cost is in my budget. They all want about a 1/4 inch gap around the perimeter of the space, and it seems the ones I've looked at are all meant to float rather than be glued down and my preference is to glue them.

I've seen some pretty bad click flooring installations on boats so I can't use them to base a decision on, and the rest are products used by OEMs suited for the marine environment but come at a premium cost which I don't really want to get into.

Has anybody installed one of these products going against the recommended instructions?....
- Have you glued the product down, and what adhesive did you use? Has it lasted?
- Did you install flush up to walls and cabinets without it buckling?
- Has it survived seasonal temps with no ill effects years after the installation, or have large gaps developed around some planks?
- Would you do anything different?

View the latest post Hurth Transmissions on 1994 390 CPMY, 454’s

Been getting a squeak on transmissions, mainly starboard between 750 and 900 when motoring forward. Above or below don't hear it. Pretty much same as when you turn the shafts when it is on the hard in the dry cutlass bearing. Well

Today I was warming up the engines, and at idle I could hear that light squeal from the starboard transmission while in Neutral. Fluid was changed 5 years ago and mechanic sid filter was pretty heavy. I changed last year and filter was clean, and fluid good. I didn’t wash the filter just replaced. Am I looking at a rebuild or bad bearing? I know trans rebuilt can be bought for $3500.00, but marina will probably charge me $6999.99 for same unit plus labor.

Any thoughts here. ?

Thanks!

Tony

View the latest post 2 part post, start with 454 carbs

My 390 has 454 Carbed engines. The starboard is newer with 125 hours. Been about 4 years and I am ready to replace spark plugs. NOT. lot of room in there. They look OK from the outside,. I came back from a 50 mile trip and sprayed some WD40 (ll I had) into the area of the spark plugs, hoping s it cools it will draw the WD into the plug thread. Do you change hot engine or cold? Keep in mind the are on the outside of the engine will roast your arms if you get them on that manifold. Suggestions? Should I be concerned about snapping one off in the head?

View the latest post Attachment(s) Icer-Ette Model 85 Ice Maker Inop

We bought a 1998 405 Aft Cabin and during the Survey the inspector could not confirm the ice maker was operational because of a fresh water pump issue. Knowing this when we bought the boat, I figured since the aluminum plate below the ice tray was cold that at least the compressor was functional. After bringing the boat back to our home dock, a three day journey, I determined the causal factor was an inoperative cooling fan motor. I removed the fan motor and tested it and sure enough it was not working. After a little research I also found the fan motor was not the original and the motor and fan had been replaced at some point. I ordered a replacement motor and fan from Boatman’s I-net Marine and received it promptly. I replaced the motor and fan, about a 1-hour job, and now it works like new.

On to the next project!

Hmm? The picture loaded 90* rotated, will have to figure that out, too!

View the latest post Attachment(s) DIY Dry Bilge

One of my boating friends told me about a dry bilge pump system he purchased like this.

https://www.amazon.ca/Seaflo-SEAFLO-Dry-Bilge-System/dp/B07V4G41K4/ref=asc_df_B07V4G41K4/?tag=googleshopc0c-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=578819718393&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=8773907024953505773&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9000604&hvtargid=pla-813999341414&psc=1

After reading the reviews, there were simply too many failures so I searched a little more and came to this DIY solution. Which will be more reliable and if something were to fail it can be fixed for a very low cost and rather quickly.

https://lifeempirically.com/2018/03/12/ ... ge-system/

I have 4 bilges, the 3 forward ones are always bone dry however the rear one always has a bit of standing water in it so this should fix that for good. Will post back with my build and parts for others that may be interested in doing the same or similar to suit their needs. With todays increased prices, I expect the final product to cost about $125 cdn.

View the latest post Stern thruster SP1300 replacement

Hello all, I have a 2008 59’ Marquis. The stern thruster has stopped working. It is a Volvo Penta SP1300, 24 volts. Two motor shops have told me the motor is too far gone and can’t be rewound. I would like to replace the motor instead of changing over to another brand of stern thruster. Anyone, with any suggestions, would be greatly appreciated. The part number for the motor is 41100656, but, it is no longer available.
