View the latest post Shore Power #2 trips dock breaker

Everything off..all breakers on shore power #2 side, even the battery switches..
Many times as soon as I plud in the 30 amp cord it pops the dock breaker... Yes I tried known good 30 amp cords and changed to other dock power plugs from boats having no issue..

Generator works fine and powers the entire vessel no problem..

When I shut down the Generator and plug shore power #2 into the dock it pops it with everything off... Shore power # 1 is fine. no issues.

HELP!! Called 2 marinas, they have no body to diagnose these issues.

View the latest post Attachment(s) Onan generator 50Hz for US?

So I was on Cummins Quickserve portal tonight downloading the manual for my Onan generator. As I was looking closer at the nameplate data (see pic) I realized it says it is a 3000rpm / 50Hz. The 50Hz is kinda throwing me for a loop. If you look close, to the right of the "Model No" it looks like a sticker has been applied with "10.0MDKWB" on it. It kinda looks like it is peeling up a bit at the end so I don't know what that's all about either.

I used the actual Serial Number from the nameplate on the Cummins Quickserve portal to find the manuals and it says the "Ship Date" was March 31, 2000 so I feel like this is the original generator, but cannot figure out why they'd put a 50Hz generator in a boat designed for the US with all other pumps/motors/systems/etc. onboard the boat rated at 60Hz.

In addition, the nameplate data indicates the kilowatt rating as 8.0, but the leading numbers of the model number seems to indicate it is a 10.0kW generator, which is what was advertised when we were initially looking at this boat.

Has anyone seen/heard of anything like this? Every time a turn around I run into another mystery! Thanks in advance!!

View the latest post Marine Pricing Rant

So my masthead light plastic lens is starting to yellow some and I tried finding a replacement. Could not find one however I was shocked at the price of a new masthead light assembly by Perko which is the one I have.

https://marinepartssource.com/led-masth ... 0170bm012l

Found one very similar and actually has the same mounting hole pattern dimensions so installation is very easy. The Five Oceans unit is about 1/8" wider and 1/2" taller but otherwise looks pretty much the same. Price difference is surprising to say the least.

https://www.amazon.ca/Round-Masthead-Navigation-Light-Sailboat/dp/B00FKF3TH6/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=Five+Oceans+LED+Masthead+Navigation+Light&qid=1661687783&sr=8-5

I guess my point is an entirely new unit from 5 Oceans would be much cheaper than a lens from Perko which I cannot even find.

Bottom line is I will try to polish up the lens as I do like the fact that mine takes a festoon style bulb which is replaceable by a LED variant compared to the newer built in LED versions from both manufacturers which are not repairable if the light gives up.

View the latest post Attachment(s) Patch & Peach

My wife said we should try bringing the cats with us on the boat so being the perfect husband I said yes. :captain: Hate to admit it but she was right, cats seem to be happy to be with us. They are still wondering why their home moves and rolls in waves but they are getting better every day. Patch is our 15 year old, the black and white one and Peach is the 7 year old. Both cats were saved from certain misfortune when they were young by my wife.

View the latest post Engine room heater

Hi everyone, did a quick search and didn’t see anything – please feel free to direct me to a thread if there is one. We should be closing soon on a ’98 445 and are very excited! We will be on a lake in MO and it will get below freezing during the winter but we do like to boat on nice winter days. In my current boat (29 Ranger tug) we have an xtreme 600W heater that has done an excellent job. We monitor the temp with the Govee app and this has worked really well. Obviously the 445 engine room is significantly larger. Any thoughts/ suggestions/ recommendations on heaters?
Thanks!
Jay

View the latest post Flashing Anti Bug Anchor Light

Where I boat there is a problem with an anchor light at night attracting bugs. It can be so bad that I do not even use my anchor light any more. The boat top will or can be covered with thousands of dead flies, moths or some type of bug after a night on the hook, really gross.

Even though I am usually anchored very close to shore and out of the way of any traffic, I would prefer to have something saying I am there. I realize this is not technically legal but definitely better than no light at all. Personally I do believe a flashing light is more visible than a steady one.

My plan is to add and adjustable flasher module to the light circuit right behind the dash at the switch wiring. The module would allow me to adjust the time on and time off of the light. Something like 5 seconds on and then 10 seconds off however would need to experiment to see what works best for visibility and no bugs. I guess i could put in a 3-way anchor light switch which allows me to choose either standard non flashing or flashing. Do not even know if this will work for not attracting bugs but assume it will be better than a light on all the time.

Here is the module I found. https://czh-labs.com/products/dc-45-30v ... her-module
