How many of you have come across , by chance, boats you once owned in for sale ads, you tube videos or walks around marinas etc.
Years ago we were on a cruise on Lake Ontario and came across the hardtop boat we had sold to get the one we were on the cruise in, There it was at the marina we had the pig roast at...... Just the other day I watched a YT video on Georgian bay and there beside the cruising video boat was docked our old F32 ( should have kept that one ). I have seen the old Carver ( the one at the pig roast ) for sale many times even went to look at it.....was just the same as when we sold it at Crates in 95. Not long ago that hardtop was for sale, looked at that one too, just the same as 88....
Got me to thinking whether this happens to other folk as well....it will be interesting to hear some stories....

Hi,
I am missing a trim piece on the starboard side forward window next to the helm station. This piece fits over the fixed glass on the outer track and buts up to the middle slider and has a seal on it. Does anyone know where I can find this piece? This is the only defect I found when the mobile wash guy came yesterday to give her a bath. This allow you to stick your finger between the first and second window to the outdoors.

View the latest post Leaking hydraulic steering fluid
- Posted by: Dusty Bilges » August 6th, 2022, 2:05 pm
- Forum: General Repairs & Maintenance
Me: "I gotta leak on my boat."
Mechanic: "Go ahead, it's your boat."
So coming into the dock at Thunderbird Lodge on beautiful Rainy Lake, I noticed I was standing in pink hydraulic steering fluid. I have a 1993 Carver 300 Sedan. Yes- I read all 92 posts that say" Hynautic" but want to be certain on which model I have as I am contemplating a rebuild with Seatech. I know I could figure it out if I was on my boat, but I'm 300 miles away from it and my paperwork that came with the boat.
Any help would be appreciated.

View the latest post Attachment(s) Low Shore Power Voltage Issue.
- Posted by: Midnightsun » August 4th, 2022, 7:34 pm
- Forum: Electrical
OK, so our toaster and small oven seem to be heating poorly. Checked voltage at the plugs and see only 101 volts. Checked voltage at both shore power outlets on the pedestal and get 117 on both of them. Fired up the generator and get 117 volts at the outlets on the boat which is what I should be seeing. My shore power comes in via dual 30amp feed lines into a reverse Y adapter, 50a cord and into an isolation transformer which outputs the power to 2 individual 120volt circuits labeled shore power 1 & 2.
Measured voltage at the wires exiting my shore power inlet, 118.9 on both red and black legs to neutral. Measured between both red and black hots and get only 205 volts. Hmmmm.
Theory, they are using a 208v transformer to get dual phases which leave me under powered? Make sense? I do need probably at least 240v into the isolation transformer I believe in order to get proper single phase power on both legs. Any electrical experts out there?
Everything works fine on board with exception to heating elements which are weak. Has probably been this way forever but last week when we had a hard time making toast I investigated a little more to see why.
My shore power panels shows 215volts however not to sure how accurate that is.
Any advice is much appreciated.

I saw this article in Prop Talk, and thought I would bring it to the forum, because the boat involved was a Carver. I think the folks that lost their boat made a good move reinforcing the engine vents, though they aren’t absolutely sure that the vents caused the issue.

View the latest post Smart TV
- Posted by: Midnightsun » August 4th, 2022, 10:37 am
- Forum: General Boating Discussion
It seems older smart TVs are not as quick or do not have as many features/choices like the newer units do. Problem is a 5 or 6 year old 4k or even 1080p tv will probably last the lifetime of the boat except the smart TV part seems to get outdated in form and function just like a cell phone.
I did a little homework and ended up with an Amazon Fire TV stick ti update the smart tv part of the television, cheap and fast with all the goodies anyone could ask for. The only issue is they need to be powered but the good news is it is 5v USB. The original USB wall charger that comes with the Fire Stick has a rated output of 1a so really not power hungry at all. That being said, the unit is small enough to velcro to the back of a small TV or if the inputs are parallel to the screen the stick will most likely just pop into place without interference.
Here is the cool part. No need to buy a smart TV as the stick will do the job. No need to buy a special 12v TV as a small dedicated 150 mini inverter works perfectly as this is what I have been using in the aft cain for several years without issue. Simply cut off the 12v socket end on the inverter and spliced into the existing 12v leads to the original TV. The little inverter does have a USB plug incorporated so really convenient to plug in the Fire TV stick for its power. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01H2U9DE4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Thanks
