I have a 1995 Carver 355 aft and my vdo gas gauge broke and I need to replace it but don't know what gauge to purchase with or without sending unit and ohms . The gauge had no numbers or model number on back . The plastic disintegrated

Well, Let me tell you. We bought our Carver and the previous owner had Sea Deck installed. Looked really good till now. The swim platform is all bubbles and coming off with no effort at all. It wraps around to the front of the boat and the same thing is happening there also. So, We removed about 60% of it with ease. I had the rep from Kingston come and take a look and he confirmed it is SeaDeck. His only reasoning was that the installer did a bad job. He tried to get the head office to see what they could do and they won't. I purchased glue from another Quebec installer but I'm weary about re-gluing. Has anyone here get this done to their boat and how long should it last?

Hi everyone, new owners here and having a shore power issue. From what we can see, the shore power cords are hard wired into the panel, as I've seen mentioned in a couple of posts. Our Marina just went to the new system that will trip if there is any back feed of current. When we go to a different Marina without the upgraded system, everything works beautifully. Everything works on generator power also. Got back to home port and plugged in, as soon as you flip ANYTHING on(even the outlets with nothing plugged into them), it trips the whole system. So, we are thinking there is a ground issue somewhere between the panel and the end of the cord. Does anyone here know how to trace that line through the boat? It almost seems like we are going to have to cut through the fiberglass to find it. We would like to convert to a plug receptacle instead of the hard wire set up. Any and all help, with pictures, would be welcome. We love the boat, but not having the ability to use shore power is really a pain.

Ok, so I have a question for all you 396'ers out there.

My boat is equipped with TWIN 50amp/125v receptacles at the boat. and from looking at the electrical diagram, that looks to be the way it was designed from Carver. My marina (and just about every marina around me) only provide either twin 30amp or single 50 amp shore power.

The previous owner simply had 2, 50/125 --> 30amp pigtails on each line and ran it to the twin 30amp house.

on shore line 2, I run all 3 a/c units and on a hot day, under a full load, I'm pulling 100% of the 30amps and it does heat up the lines and wear out the breaker at the house. I have had to have the marina replace the breaker 2 times now. This is a bad scenario if you ask me.

Just wondering what you all are doing out there to combat this, can I convert this to a single 50 that diverts power where it needs to go? That is what my friend with a 2000 444 has from the factory. Seems odd that my newer version was set up the way it is??

I need to replace some of my door hinges. These are the doors that go to the bedrooms, bathrooms and closets. The hinges are worn out and I need to lift the door to make it latch. The hinges are stainless steel approx 3.5" long. Any idea where I can find replacements?

Just acquired our 2006 Carver 41 CMY. Trying to solve the poor visibility to the stern from the wheel house. Thinking of installing a Raymarine CAM220IP above the rear sliding doors from the rear stateroom. The camera needs a flat surface, and I don't think I could get it to point down at the swim platform from the roof. So, I think I need to run wiring under the aft deck/above the rear stateroom, then up under the floor of the wheel house/above the salon ceiling to get to the console to hook into the Raymarine Axiom.

I'm not scared of taking panels off, just not sure where to begin. Couldn't find too many obvious screws in the ceiling of the rear stateroom or the salon. If anybody's done it, would appreciate any tips you can provide.

Recently purchased 450 Voyager with twin Cummins 450 Diamond Series. Port alternator went out so checked starting batteries and all are shot. The boat currently has the following. All batteries are identical AGM31M, 1150 CCA.

Each engine two 1150 CCA gel batteries in parallel

House has two 1150 CCA batteries in parallel

Genset one 1150 CCA battery

Bow thruster 24 volt so four 1150 CCA batteries in series

So my questions are:

1)Cummins specs call for I think 1100 CCA each engine. For boat operation (local lake) in temps above 60 degrees F, do I need two 1150 CCA batteries in parallel each engine or is one sufficient.

2)For the house batteries, do I need 1150 CCA or can I go lower since I’m interested in lasting time instead of cranking amps.

3) Bow thruster is rarely used on local lake. Can I drop back to two, 12 volt batteries in series instead of the current four batteries?

Any advice is surely appreciated.

Hello, all.
I have a 355 Motor Yacht. Two AC units, forward is 16,000 BTU, rear is 12,000 BTU. I find that the velocity of air out of the registers is not strong at all. The air that is coming out is cold (going to verify temp with infrared thermometer) but it just doesn't seem to have enough air pressure (similar to having the AC in your car on the lowest fan setting). Is this normal? I've checked the screens, coils (cleaned both) and can't seem to get the AC performing well. (only a 5-10 degree drop from outside temperatures in the cabin)
