View the latest post Attachment(s) Volvo D6 Impellers & Impellers In General

I figured it was time to change my impellers as it has been 8 years since I put new ones in and about 450hrs. When I purchased Midnight Sun I replaced everything just to be safe. The original impellers were still in place after 9 years and 1000 hrs. To my surprise they still looked great. The Impeller design is obviously rather stout as normally after so much time they should have failed then again boating in pristine fresh water with no sand/silt must also help quite a bit.

Point is most impellers need to be changed much more frequently depending on the brand and water conditions. I usually go by a 5 year rule however I have seen as little as every year and everything in between.

Here is a little tip to help insertion of the new. Before inserting coat with some kind of lubricant. Personally I have a little container of 100% pure silicone lube that gets used for a bunch of things on board.

I get enough slack in the drive belt to be able to slide it off the water pump pulley as in my case you are not going to get the impeller out without turning the pump drive wheel by hand and pulling with long nose pliers at the same time which works really well by the way. The Volvo ones on the diesels are supposed to use a puller because they are so difficult to remove however I figured this rotation thing out myself last time when I was at loss first time around trying to pull it out. It has been a breeze using this drive pulley rotation while pulling and also for insertion.

After lubing up the impeller I place a tie wrap around the end about 3/4 of an inch in and bend the impeller ends in the correct direction which allows me to easily insert the impeller partially in and then I cut the tie wrap off. After I simply push on the end of the impeller while turning the pump belt drive wheel by hand and she slides right in.

At the same time you get a good visual on the belt and in my case I can verify if there is any slop in the idler belt wheels that may need to be addressed. It is also requires you to tension back the belt which does stretch with time so you end up killing 2 birds with one stone.

As can bee seen below, the old impeller was in great shape, no cracks or worn rubber. Obviously there is a set because of it being inside the pump housing but this is normal and even the new one will look similar if remove it in the next month or so.

The other picture shows the temporary tie wrap to facilitate installation of the new.

View the latest post Cupboard Latch Replacements

A couple of my cupboard latches have gone bad and broke on Midnight Sun. I assume the plastic has gone brittle and just gave up over time. I am sure Carver has used a few styles over the years however I was able to find the ones used on my boat on Amazon. They start by getting difficult to open and close and finally just split apart. These are an exact replacement if the model on yours looks like this. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07WD57XH1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

If you want more of them, this vendor has them in a 12 pack. https://www.amazon.ca/Cabinet-Drawer-Perfect-Trailor-Replacement/dp/B07VSS4N9K/ref=pd_day0fbt_img_sccl_2/145-4170013-4146165?pd_rd_w=um7dc&content-id=amzn1.sym.acc65436-fc4e-45ed-98e6-1cea96557795&pf_rd_p=acc65436-fc4e-45ed-98e6-1cea96557795&pf_rd_r=REATJMJ6NHPJP0VCKGTE&pd_rd_wg=vHAMg&pd_rd_r=9fc79ec0-670f-4589-8a32-bad03faa193b&pd_rd_i=B07SSTHDJ4&th=1

View the latest post 1994 390cpmy vs 1995 390cpmy…difference inside?

I am looking at Tex Dek for my aft deck and flybridge. I know a dealer who has a pattern for a 1995, while I have a 1994. Can’t find an answer on google, carver is closed down. SO, does anyone know if they are the same or different>?

View the latest post Considering a 2807 Riviera

Hi All-

I'm new to the forum and just returning to boating since I was a teen. Growing up, we had a 31' Silverton sedan with Chrysler 318s and V-drives. I did a lot of work on that boat. I'm currently considering a 1985 2807 Riviera with hardtop and single 454 Crusader. I like the idea of a single for simplicity, less maintenance, and the possibility of a (relatively) less expensive re-power if and when the time comes.

I'm writing to see if anyone knows of "typical issues" inherent to this model of this age. Is there anything I should check in particular? Obviously I will have a real surveyor do a report before buying. But before I get that far, I thought I'd check in with the people who really know them... you, the owners! I remember when I bought an older Mercedes a few years back. I went on the MB forum and asked the same kind of question. Almost everyone came back with the same 3 issues and said once those are done, it's all routine...

Any thoughts are so appreciated!

Thanks,

Glen

View the latest post Need your EYES/Help.

First time out on the water this past weekend and after about 1/2 mile out I felt the engine starting to become under load. sure enough it stalled. It started right up, and put into gear and stalled again. It was a challenge to get it back to the marina to say the least
When I finally did get it back, I raised the engine and took this picture. Can anyone please tell me you see what I see?

View the latest post Safety Equipment Check

Have neglected this as we do not use these items unless all hell breaks loose. Kinda like that spare tire in your car which is probably at 4 psi if your lucky enough to have an older car that still has a spare that is.

Checked the dates on my flares and saw they expired in 2019. :-( I know they are still functional however one needs to abide by the expiry dates if verified and there is a minute chance a couple will not work. Just a friendly reminder. :captain2:

View the latest post Windows/Weather Stripping and Felt Channel - '89 Montego 23

Hey everyone, I have an '89 Montego Mid-Cabin and I'm redoing much of this boat and right now I'm working on the windows. The weather stripping and felt channel were just shot. Can anyone tell me what size felt channel and weather stripping goes in there, or share any links you may for me to buy this stuff? By the way, here is a video I did of removing one of the windows.

Thanks a ton!

View the latest post Heater pops the circuit and wont stay on

We have a 3807 that has 3 heaters and 3 air conditioners. Last weekend, we put the heat on (because we live in Michigan and it is still flippin cold!). We only put the heat on in the salon and after about 7 minutes, the breaker was tripped and the furnace was shut off (the switch moved from on to off). We tried just putting the front heater on and after a while the same thing happened. We then tried the a/c in the salon and the front and it was fine but the air temp was in the 50's. Does anyone have any idea why we are tripping the breaker with the furnace on?
