View the latest post Air lock during initial launch - water pump

Trying to find out how common this is. 2nd season my water pump could not draw water during initial season launch. Disconnected hose at the thermostat water input last season. There was a hissing noise of escaping air, and then water started flowing. This year, both engines acted the same way. Disconnected the hose from water input at water pump. Held hose below water line and water strated flowing. Last season I started a test with Globe Run Dry impellers. That was the first time it happened to one engine only. Wondering if this could be a result of Run Dry impellers not having enough suction to start from initial season launch. The vessel is launched from a trailer. The mechanic said the water line from seacock had to run over a stringer before it entered water pump. Opined that left too much uphill draw to get water at water pump location. He recommended new impellers every year. The Run Dry impellers could be at fault, but if I did not have those in, the standard impellers would have been smoked by the time water started running. Is this common? Is it an impeller issue, or a water line issue? Any thoughts on mitigation? Thanks for comments. Hope Viper sees this. 8-) er

View the latest post Attachment(s) Volvo D6 Diesel Leak

Seems I have sprung a small leak on my port engine. Before I start ripping things apart, is there a common place to look for a leak on these engines after X amount of time? Definitely coming from the engine and not the tank. Saw it last end of season as there was a little diesel in the bilge. No evident tell tale signs of diesel running down the engine that I can see. Probably about 2 cups worth that I was able to see. The port engine has always had a small "dirty" trail under it and assume this is from this leak which has gotten worse with time. Hard to tell where it's coming from though however after I remove the engine top, I my be able to see what is going on. Just looking for some advice on someone who may be in the know about this which may save me a bunch of work. Will be into this on Friday morning.

View the latest post Attachment(s) New Owner of 2001 Carver 396

My wife, Louise, and I, Brian, are the proud new owners of a 2001 Carver 396 ACMY, Foxy Flamingo. We have been looking for the right 396 for over 4 years, and were more than a little surprised, to find her just a 2 hour drive from our home port. She has twin 370 hp Cummins diesels, bow and stern thrusters, all new Garmin electronics, and, the “frosting on the cake”, a Freedom tender lift. We are the local Harbour Hosts for the America’s Great Loop Cruisers Association (AGLCA), and plan to do the Great Loop aboard Foxy Flamingo in 2023/24. We will be spending this winter (2022/23) in New Bern, NC.

View the latest post 2667 Shore water inlet location

Hello All,

Recently picked up a 1981 santa cruz 2667. This particular boat doesn't seem to have come with the shore water inlet option and I am looking to add one.

Would anyone happen to know or have pictures of where this would have been located and where it tied into the water system.

Kind of a long shot, but thanks in advance.

View the latest post Crusader 270 falling on its face

Hello all, i have an older Carver 3207 with twin Crusader 270's ive replaced both Distributors with sierra 18-5494-2
.. port engine runs great Starbord engine when underway after 3k rpm seems to spudder and drop the rpm to around 2500. when this happens i pull thr trottle down a bit then i can push it back up to 3k rpm.... i set both engines to 10 degrees btdc could this be a fuel issue i've added an additional fuel filter to both engines over the stock. This engine also has a new carb purchased last year. not sure if it needs to be tuned or cleaned .. this is annoying ... any advice or am i missing something?

View the latest post Griptide……..UGH!!!!!

Well the Griptide was applied today. Not an easy task. I stepped in it and wore a lot. Taped it up and ripped off as much tape as I could where I could reach. Instructions said to take tape off when wet but nearly impossible. Pot time is 30 minutes and they are not kidding. At 23 minutes material began to thicken. I lost about a quart to passing pot time. Next batch I mixed half and that was close. Stepped away for 24 hours and will check tomorrow if I can get the tape off. Said light use after 24 hours 72 hour full cure. Pics to follow. jury is still out on this project. Did walk around a, bow, cockpit and swim platform. It is a bit whiter than the hull……..SO……….

View the latest post Attachment(s) Starboard side curved glass

I’m in the market for a STBD side glass on my 2008 36SS Carver. I would really like to purchase a parts manual or At least the part number for the glass. Any information would be much appreciated. I will attach a picture.

View the latest post white plastic push rivets

I have seen this mentioned a few times here. However, can’t find it! Where do you all get those LONG white plastic push reverts that hold the acrylic panels to the stainless rails on the aft cabins (390, 3807, etc?)

Thank you!

View the latest post Attachment(s) Well then.....

Nothing like driving through a snow squall to get to the boat on the May long weekend. Glad we aren't launching this weekend. Docks are underwater, although they have been launching.
