View the latest post Ac circulation pump

Hi. I new to this forum. I have a 1988 Carver Montego 3257. My sea water circulation pump for my air conditioner burnt up last season. There is absolutely no data saying the gpm,, model or serial #. Anybody have any ideas on how I can get a replacement? Thank you.

View the latest post Attachment(s) 86 28' Voyager black water tank overflow

I have a 1986 Carver Voyager 28' with an OEM Raritan head, mascerator and holding tank installation.
I can see how some of the hoses are routed including what I believe to be the pump out hose.
There is one hose I can see in the bilge that exits at the bottom stern with a valve.
I can't see anywhere a 'Y' valve in the system. There is a hose that passes under the galley.
So, what happens? When the holding tank fills up, does the excess get 'automatically"
directed to the hose outlet in the stern and go overboard?
Would appreciate help in learning how this installation works. :help:

View the latest post Attachment(s) Powered engine room hatches, request for pics

More often than I like I need to acces the engine room of our 26fly/28command. The hatches lift sideways and along their track there are hinges from the bench seat. That seat is hardly ever mounted as it is a hassle to remove and put somewhere while the hatches are open. In fact, one hatch I can more or less jam upright but the other one I can't.

Idea: hinges on the rear of the cockpit so I can open it to enough angle to do a visual check, perhaps drop something in there. Without removing the seat completely. And when I do remove it, the hatches need to open up all the way as high as possible.

Now I am thinking of electrically extending actuators. Not hydraulic. I don't know yet where to mount the non-hatch side though. Perhaps I need two to lighten the load so I can mount them half way the opening on the sides. Not sure yet about the forces at the start of the movement when the rods are 'in' and the angle to the hatch needs the heaviest push to get going.
Also depends on where they need to move to when the hatch is closed.

My request: if you can open your engine room hatches automatically, can you please post a picture of how this is constructed? It would help me to think up a solution for our boat.

View the latest post Poor Mans Inverter Project

I have always been against large inverters as the power removed needs to go back in and this takes time so might as well run the generator for short periods when large draw appliances are needed not to mention this charges the batteries at the same time. I do have a couple of small inverters installed to handle TVs, entertainment and small electrical draws elsewhere.

Well since I am installing a rather large LifePo4 Lithium bank and have solar and the means to charge at 80 amps, I figure what the heck, lets get the kitchen outlet that does the coffee machine, frother and blender hooked up to do at least what a 15A circuit can handle IF required on the rare occasion. Morning coffee with guests sleeping comes to mind or anchored out close to someone early morning.

Want to keep this compact and simple and relatively inexpensive.

The Lithium bank is under the galley floor just below the outlet in question, how convenient. :-D

After advice from other I have decided to go with a 2000 watt Renogy pure sine wave unit. https://ca.renogy.com/2000w-12v-pure-si ... -inverter/

To make switching between shore power and inverter seamless and safe, an automatic transfer relay will be used. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B004S5Y158/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The unit will be turned on/off at the Galley via the supplied switch from Renogy

The all important fuse. Elected to go this route to simplify wiring and I also have a smaller multi fuse box connected to my house bank which would be better protected if there was a fuse directly at the battery so I opted for the dual unit. Will end up with a 200a fuse for the inverter and an 80a fuse for the remote fuse box. https://www.bluesea.com/products/2151/D ... 30_to_300A

When disconnected shore power or generator power the relay connects the inverter automatically which is what the goal was. Obviously the opposite happens when shore power or generator power is supplied . Inverters draw power even in the off state so this is where the manual on switch comes into play. Push the on/off button and the power light comes on and powers up the inverter/outlet ready for use. The light is a constant reminder to turn it off when done, not that it matters however why use battery energy when not required. An inverter of this size does consume a whooping 2A in standby. Thats almost like running a small fridge! :-O

Keep in mind I have LifePo4 lithium so no off gassing therefor the inverter can be mounted beside the bank and the bank is under the galley floor and not in the bilge.

A little bit of custom wiring and about $500-600 in parts when all is said and done. Pictures to follow as things progress.

View the latest post Ventrifigo

Tried finishing up the Ventrifigo swap out. Installed the mounting flange and slid it into place. However, my fears came true. The wire bunch at the back of the enclosure prevent the unit from butting up against the mounting flange. Not a day ruined though. I bought some 1” x 4” pine. I am going to rip it to 2” wide. I need 1.5 inches to just clear the wiring, so another 1/2” for safety. I will mount these spacer boards to the original cabinet, and then paint flat black like the cabinet and mount flange to it. Yeah, it will stick out another 1.5”, but if I play my cards right it should look like it grew there. Pics to follow soon.

Just when all looks great there is aa speed bump.

View the latest post Solar and battery condition

Ready to launch when they say it is my time. HOWEVER, I hooked up the batteries today. They were reading 12.7 volts and at 75%. Turned on the solar and in 2 hours the batteries were bouncing at 88%. That is what will ensure that the genset will not run as much this year.

On another note, when I was hooking up the batteries, I checked the house batteries, 2 6V GC Trojan batteries, 5 years old, strong as new. When I took the caps off, the water was just at the level of the plates. I knew they were full end of season. Never had this happen before.
