View the latest post Diesel 356 MPG?

Good day. Can you help with some fuel consumption numbers?
Why? I do a lot of boating and lots of quick trips. I still work, so going somewhere for a month or weeks is not really possible. Thus, I like to cruise out faster..20mph and drop anchor for a 2-3 days and then head home. Range and fuel consumption is important; Bimini, Fl Keys, etc.

I'm considering holding off on a 356 purchase till I find a diesel (still working, not retired, so I can wait awhile). One just sold, missed it. I have consolidated a lot of MPG numbers on various carvers and a 356 seems the right size for my wife and I. I'd like to bop around the keys and Bahamas in it. Range is important at cruise speed (200 miles or more) and best mpg at hull speed when not in a hurry. I cannot find the numbers for a 356 diesel.
What MPG do you get at 7-8 mph? What do you get at best cruise,15-20mph or what is the sweet spot? The only diesel carver I have read about is the 38SS with Volvo IPS diesels. Incredible fuel economy for a 38' boat: 3.83mpg/7.7 mph or 2.07mpg/10mph. At cruise it shows 1.14 mpg at 28 mph for about 290 miles range. I hope a diesel 356 would be better than a diesel 38. The 356 is a few thousand lbs less. I'd do a 38, but don't want a boat that large. A few feet shorter (C356) would be nice.

View the latest post flybridge winch

Hello,

570 carver pilothouse
Does someone know the lifting capacity of the topside winch?

I am re doing the aft deck (with stick on teak) looking good so far, I hope it will be durable.
I am planning to store either a moped or motorcycle up there, construct a table top over the lower part of the bike, install some railings :-D

Thanks

View the latest post Attachment(s) ZF trans filter removal

Helping a friend out who has ZF transmissions. Trying to get the old filter out to replace it. Trying to loosen the 6mm bolt on the top of the filter cap, but it doesn't loosen. It's stuck to the cap and will turn the cap when I try to remove the bolt. The cap will turn (fairly easily) but then the tab on the cap hits the housing and won't go farther and the bolt won't loosen. Tried lifting the cap after it's turned left as far as it will go and can't lift it... afraid of breaking off that tab.

How does this come apart?? What am I missing? Seems like it should be pretty simple!

View the latest post New zinc placement on 1976 Mariner 2896

Putting my boat in salt water for the first time in a while and need recommendations for anode placements. Checked some of the posts but, there was a lot to dig through and couldn't get the answers I wanted out of 1 or 2 posts. Expecting to put anodes on the shafts and props. Not too sure about the trim tabs. Thanks.

View the latest post davits for tender

Hello all,

Can someone recommend a swim platform davit system for a 650lb zodiac projet 350?

my carver 570 has plenty of deck space as my dingy has currently been sitting centered on the platform.
the hurley h20 claims 350lb capacity, the hurley h30 around 450lb and the hurley h30 plus 725lb
at over $4,000 :-O

If that is my only option then "break out another thousand" is under rated.

suggestions or any used hurley h30 plus davits for sale?

also I have put some teak stick on decking on the aft flybridge and stairs, looking good :) I will post pics when its complete.
is that decking suitable for the swim platform that will have more wear and salt water splashback?

Thanks,

View the latest post Any USCG OUPV's on form?

Looking for some advice on an OUPV

I'm considering applying for my "6 pack" OUPV License, but the licensing requirements are clear as mud (per the USCG website, are in the link below). I am assuming that the Gen requirements, and sea service req, both listed above the OUPV license requirements in the linked .pdf chart, must be met to get to the OUPV license/endorsement.
Below the OUPV requirements are "Other requirements" (First Aid and CPR), which seems are not required, followed by "exams" which do not appear to be required either. (46 CFR 11.903 does not list a OUPV exam).

So, assuming that I can prove my 360 days of operation, 90 on Great Lakes or Ocean, it seems that the only other hurdle is the Medical Certificate. I am confident that I can pass all of the required medical tests, however, the "Certificate" encompasses several different health care professionals, but only leaves room for one medical professional's endorsement/signature. What is the best way to overcome this hurdle?

The application makes no mention of any sea test, or written test, is that correct? Does a OUPV have to also hold a MMC? And does the OUPV also have to submit to periodic drug testing, and state convictions? (I would have no trouble passing if it did, but it does not seem to be required.)
