View the latest post Attachment(s) Anybody else have one of these?

--

So, on this new-to-us 2004 466, 'discovered' this Newmar box mounted on the forward engine room bulkhead, switched 'off'.

Previous owner says he has no idea what it is! I'm wondering if any other Carver owners might have one onboard & can enlighten me.

It says it is a DC-to-DC converter, and the labeling seems to indicate it steps up 12v to 24v at 6 amps, doesn't it?

I thought it might be somehow related to charging the 24V thruster battery bank from an engine alternator - but can find no wiring connections to support that theory.

(And, I also learned in the process btw - the thruster battery bank does not get charged when engines are running! Only when generator is running or shore power connected, and the thruster battery charger is powered on [:-( )

The two 2-conducter cables that connect to this Newmar box run off into wire bundles and I haven't been able thus far to completely trace them out, except to see that one runs forward & one runs aft.... No DC voltage registers on the box terminals with engines not running.

So while this is an ongoing search, thought I'd ask to see if others recognize this and possibly have one in use that you could describe. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Thank You....

The oval hatch type windows must be removed and replaced to replace the broken screens. I have removed the screws on the inside but I feel uncomfortable with using a screwdriver to pry it.

View the latest post New owner, new question……

Hello all! I just bought a 1978 Santa Cruz 28’……which was RE powered and repropped to a 454. Boat is super solid as a project base, and just what I was hunting for.

My dilemma is this: the trailer is pretty rusty. I suspect it may be salvageable…….but it’s a double axle and only rated for 7k lbs. it’s a 1994 Metalcraft. Im getting bids to upgrade axles and get it made safe.

While doing this, I discovered that one of my business contacts is an EZ Loader dealer…….so I might get a bit of a deal on a new galvanized triple.

Here’s my problem: I’ve never put my new boat on the old trailer, so I’ve no idea how it fits and what to look for in new, or modify in my old trailer!

So: 28SC owners…….what do you have for a trailer? Any wisdom to impart? Or: model numbers of your trailers so I can research them? Eagerly awaiting your guidance! :worthy:

View the latest post Attachment(s) Carver swim platform project

I recently saw a garage built swim platform blog for a Carver 3207 Aft Cabin. I sold my Carver two years ago, but learned so much about owning a larger boat from you guys that I immediately thought about this site. The blog is well done and outlines the steps with pictures along the way.

I thought this may benefit someone considering replacing their platform. I think the steps and seat are a great add, and the additional storage would be awesome. This may have been posted a few years ago here, since the blog is from 2011.

Anyway, here it is. I hope you enjoy it as much I did.

View the latest post New Owner Looking For Parts

Hello all!
Have a 1988 Carver 4207. Beautiful craft but needs some small restoration parts; switch cover plates, galley counter edge trim, shower handheld wall hooks, hardware for covers on bridge overhead, etc. Will look at parts for sale but I’m also looking for a salvage source.
Thanks for any advice!

View the latest post Attachment(s) Carver 3607/3807 measurements

Dear Carver owners,

I am looking to buy a 3607/3807 model and arrange transport for it. I love the model and would be a great upgrade to my current 3007. The dimensions for transport are pretty critical however. I am looking for the height measurement as if the flybridge was removed. Is there an owner that can help me with finding these dimensions? I would be immensely grateful.

Cheer,

Michiel

View the latest post 1989 Carver 3607 - Swim Platform

Hey All,

Just curious to see if there is an affordable solution to fixing my swim platform? The last owner did not fill holes that were previously drilled in it and now the platform has water inside of it. The wood seams rotten and I am sure it won't last much longer.

Can I fix this somehow or am I stuck with having to purchase a new one? I have been quoted $6000 for a new but basic fibreglass platform but feel that is too much money for us right now. I have a 1989 Carver 3607 so I am sure they are not much cheaper anywhere else considering its size (approximately 14 ft by 4 ft) but would love to get alternative solutions.

I did look into buying teak wood to build a new one on my own since I am very wood savvy, but it would cost $7000 for just the teak alone. Another option would be to use African Mahogany (approximate cost $1400) in just wood. Would this species of wood be a good wood to use for a swim platform? I could use all old brackets and telescopic ladder etc. What if I applied a clear coat of epoxy when finished (like a bar top). Would this help preserve it over time? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I love the idea of building my own but I also don't want to be in this same situation in a couple of years if the African Mahogany doesn't work. Thanks in advance and I look forward to hearing from anyone who has some insight into this situation.

View the latest post Sideshifter

Sideshifter bow thruster ordered at $550.00 off for boat show pricing. GREAT people! I told him how i was adding the bow this year and stern next and asked how to get a dual joystick control? EASY, we will send it to you now with this order. SO, ST350 (45-60 boat) was my choice for my 390 and should be here in 2 weeks. That will be in time to mount it while on the hard, and I can wire it later. Bride has a lot of anxiety when we dock, although never hit anything…yet. When that wind come up that giant sail of a 390CPMY is hard to handle without the help of a thruster. Kind of looks funky on plane, but I am behind it, not looking at it. Will probably place AGM batteries in the forward bilge in galley floor. Still looking for that Virtrifigo fridge, DEFENDER is best price, but back ordered. NEW aft canvas all made just awaiting for shrink wrap removal in 6 weeks. So LOTS of new stuff this year!
