View the latest post Attachment(s) Transom Box Locks

Hi Everyone,

This lock on my 355 transom box was corroded and wouldn't lock. Cam was frozen and I broke it off.

So............3 weeks ago, everything in the box was stolen. Ughhhhh.

Does anyone know what the specs are for this lock? I didn't remove it and would like to get it ordered. I didn't see it in the parts manual for the 1998 355 Aft.

Any help would be super outstanding.

Be Safe, Greg

View the latest post Greetings all ... thank you for the add

We are in the process of buying a 2000 Trojan 440 Express (by Carver). A survey is being done next week. We're hoping that everything goes well. I would also like what the Carver family here thinks of this boat, I know that's a loaded question because of each's own opinions and preference .... but take it easy on me, I'm new here.
I am a dIY with a mechanical engineering and fabrication background. This is our 6th boat in 30 years of boating. We are actively involved in the Coast Guard Auxiliary where I'm a coxswain.
We are in the Southcoast of MA (Buzzards Bay).

Best Regards
Tony & Alice

View the latest post Custom Anchor Rode

My boat came with 250' of all chain rode. Although it will definitely hold best in all conditions just due to the weight of the chain I am considering going to about 40' of 5/16" SS chain and 125, of 5/8" 8 plait rope. Chosen size is what the Maxwell 800 winch calls for. http://marinewarehouse.net/images/ancho ... manual.pdf

Why? There is no suspension on all chain which can get noisy not to mention impact forces in bad conditions. I do have a bridle that I use to add suspension once in a while but a bit of a pita to deploy. Plus I have alway wondered how in the heck can I cut free in an emergency unless I carry bolt cutters on board which would not be exactly easily done in an emergency situation.

Looking at a company in Florida that can make it custom to my choice of materials. Anyone dealt with Dark Horse Marine or have a recommendation? https://darkhorsemarine.com/

View the latest post Attachment(s) 12 Years in water at Marina

I'm looking at a Carver with twin Ford 351s. The boat seems in good shape but needs some exhaust manifolds attention. The interior has been gone thru with new equipment, etc.

The reason for my post is to solicit opinions based on the fact that for the past 12 years the boat has sat in marinas. Nine years with the previous owner who used it as a liveaboard and fixed nothing. Cheap rent on the water I guess. The last 3 years has been spent with the current owner who had the boat towed to his marina where he has been working on mostly the interior and otherwise bringing the boat up to snuff. He even recently had it hauled and bottom painted with new zincs installed.

Unfortunately the current owner is of I'll health which is why I'm now looking at it.

My question is... Although the boat is being offered to me at a very attractive price, should I pass on this "opportunity" JUST because the boat has been sitting for 12 years in salt water?

View the latest post Attachment(s) Carver Documentation file list

EDIT!!!!2023:

Please do look a bit further into the forum and find the topic where i explain that I cannot serve every singleposter (who vanishes into oblivion after being helped) with documents.

I set up a website at my own cost to provide Carver owners and wannabe owners to download whatever salvaged file they consider useful. http://www.carveryachts.store (it is technically not so great, I know, but it works)

Everyone (!) considering, pondering, worrying, choosing, to buy a Carver is most welcome to use the information available to weigh all info to make a personal decision. Who of us was not in that situation (before choosing a Carver  ) and would have been very happy with any neutral information at hand.

For who came across a Carver and has questions; USE THE FORUM! there is a huge amount of real information in the heads of users who are not going to call you at a convient moment to answer questions they saw in their Glass Bowl of magic. But you CAN request kindly for information to help you. Start a topic, write your thoughts, expectations and worries. You will most likely be helped. In the end, however,YOU are responsible for your own problems. Whatever advice you got in preparation.

There is a donation method provided, i am very glad to report that two downloaders donated. That is about 0,1 % of my cost (my time NOT included). No, I am not looking for you to pay for my breakfast. I do, however, am not an owner of a Carver any more. So yes, whatever I do here is bonus, gratis, not-for-profit. And it will remain that way. Any profits go to the forum.

So. Feel free to pickup what you need, want or deem useful. At the same time, do not underestimate the power of the carveryachtowners.com forum to help you out when in dire straits.

Decide for yourself to support who donated before you and after you. Remember: all donations above my direct cost (only approximately 50 euros) are transferred to the Carveryachtsowners.com forum. No small print, no excuses. I like to see things as simple as possible.

Cheers,

Frank.

ps. sounds pretty grim, doesn't it.... no worry, enjoy life! just consider fellow enjoyers; the waters may well be the last frontier before know-all-tech takes over.

Somebody saved them! Maybe a good time for someone to download them all and post on this site before they disappear.

View the latest post Carver 2006 41 CMY Owner's Manual

I just purchased our 2006 Carver 41 Cockpit Motor Yacht and the owner's manual is not onboard. Does anyone have the electronic version or could you send me a copy of the 2006 Owners Manual, please? Also, I am hoping to get the specifications for this model. Both of these used to be on the Carver Website which was taken down shortly before we purchased our new boat. I don't expect much help in tracking down the original that came with the boat. Please send me a note to david@e-levitt.com. If it is a copy, I will pay for postage and copying.

Thanks!

View the latest post Replacement LED 12v Salon Ceiling Lighting Pucks

This keeps coming up so figured I should make a post directing other to what is available today as for the those crumbling ceiling fixtures on many Carvers. The ones I refer to are the Hera brand, this will give you an idea of what the look like.

Original Hera Brand Fixture, Discontinued Many Years Ago. https://www.eclectic-ware.com/hera-repl ... parts.html

Problem with these is the heat from the halogen bulb dries out the plastic until it crumbles by touch, not worth buying used ones or trying to find new ones as the plastic is probably so old they will not last.

Not sure who posted this but I did find this on this site several years ago and can confirm it is a direct replacement, all LED light fixture. I guess there was so much demand someone decided to make a carbon copy of the size/style. I did find out several RV manufacturers also used these in the past and have the same issue with deteriorating plastic.

So here is the newer kid on the block, called Dream Lighting. These will fit into the existing holes once the Hera units are removed. The only difference is the Hera units did not care if they were connected in any way as polarity on incandescent/halogen does not matter. LED are not the same and you need to get the polarity correct for them to work. No worry as they are "polarity protected" meaning just try one way and if the do not light up, reverse the leads and it should light up and you are done.

TheDream lights still are plastic however without the heat from the halogen bulb and being away from UV light (sun) I suspect they will last the lifetime of the boat, time will tell.

Dream Light LED Light/Fixture. https://www.amazon.com/Dream-Lighting-Recessed-Ceiling-Silver/dp/B00S4CPL5U?pd_rd_w=OQY2y&pf_rd_p=bcca84ef-5f4d-4682-852e-b0b38f16e8ba&pf_rd_r=SNGQ3WHQF50CCWT8QG3K&pd_rd_r=81b1cd65-efe2-4006-99c3-5e6c53848717&pd_rd_wg=M2wxn&psc=1&ref_=pd_bap_d_csi_pb_allspark_BIA_0_t

Today I came across another light which also seems to be the same size and another copy of the Hera size. I have not tried these however hopefully someone here will and confirm fitment in the Hera hole on the boat. These are made of machined aluminum, the lens cap screws off and have metal clips on the side to secure them in place via friction. Thought I would include these as they may be a great alternative to Dream lights.

Note to Admin, would be nice to make this a sticky as this is asked way too frequently.
