View the latest post 600 HP merc

Sitting here watching a review of the new Mercury 600hp , V12......wow quite the engine....1200 + pounds, 2 speed gear case that is steerable, quiet. Man these should push anything. I don't want to do the fuel usage calculations for this level of HP though....it will be interesting to see the final numbers using the gear case.

Exciting for large boats........I wonder who will work on these technical marvels ????.........

Performed some minor repairs last year on bulbs and rocker switches and realized there is not much extra wire on these items. For more in depth work like flush mount displays, is the console designed tip toward the captain's chair for better access?

Thanks!

View the latest post 406 Aux fuel tank access

Hello Group,

I have a new-to-us 2000 Carver 406. I am trying to find location and access to Aux fuel tank. Per Carver book, I have 3 tanks for my diesel engines. AUX -= 146 us gallons and 2 each saddle tanks at 99 us gallons. I am needing to access Aux fuel tank, anybody know how to do this. Fuel gauge is always ready empty..

Also if anyone had done something different to monitor fuel usage would be interested in what you did. Seen a few things out there on market place but would greatly appreciate hearing from someone who installed some type of fuel monitoring system

Thanks
MT

View the latest post Run on 2 batteries or one

Okay so I was able to get my hands on a owners manual for the era of the boat (some revisions are '78) from Carvers archives.
The manual states to run both engines off just one battery, hence always having the other as a spare..... I'm not totally sold on that one. For one having 2 separate charging systems on the same circuit doesn't give me a warm fuzzy, I was having issues with one WAY over charging and that flowing through the whole system just isn't good. I did find the issue and some Genius at one point decided to put in a Chrysler single wire voltage regulator where the Pleasurecraft Ford model used to be :banghead: . Also there is not a shore charging system onboard either so other then alternating between batteries on cruises there's not a reliable way to ensure charge. I'm planning on running each engine on its own battery for these reasons, if I'm way off I'm open to hearing it and appreciate others advice and knowledge.

View the latest post Carver propane feeder system

Hi Guys, Thanks for your guidance a couple seasons ago on zincs etc. Very helpful! This time it is the propane feed to the stove and oven on my 3077. Lots of propane after recent fill but nothing is getting thru to stove. I am useless with figuring out what may be the problem. Supposed to be going out this weekend with another couple, and being unable to cook would likely be a deal-breaker. Any ideas on how to figure out if solenoid is shot, or reg, or....would be hugely appreciated! Thanks in advance on any assistance!

View the latest post Reverse Polarity Light when running Generator

OK here's a weird one for those of you that understand AC power better than I do. I have a '97 400 with twin 30 amp inputs and a 4.2k westerbeke generator. No issues on shore power. No issues on Generator with panel one (galley, outlets, HWH, charger). On the Air Conditioning panel no issue when I run the pump or the forward AC unit. But when I turn the rear unit on I, the reverse polarity (red) light comes on. This only happens when the generator is running. Any ideas?

Anyone have a recommendation for a dehumidifier for my boat? We are getting new mattresses and want to make sure we maintain them without the funk. Thanks.

View the latest post Sewing

Well, we got the bimini up (mostly) on Saturday and it is in a little rougher shape than I thought :-( . There are also a couple of pieces that will need reworking after changing the ladder to the stairs and changing marina's! The dinnette also needs to be reupholstered. So now after this long preamble, what sewing machine should I be looking at? I have a Janome that would do the lighter weight stuff. Already restitched some of the bimini top but will definately need a heavy duty one for other work. Considering doing the whole enclosure ourselves during the off season. Someone mentioned Husqvarna in an earlier thread. Any other suggestions? I know that I want a "walking foot" but that looks like a separate attachment for any machine. I have been watching the Sailrite videos for inspiration!! Also, other than zippers and snaps are there alternative ways to attached the bimini. We found the zippers and snaps very hard to use. Maybe our old hands or maybe shrunk canvas!

View the latest post Open Ground on the generator side

One of the things noted in our pre purchase survey was an open ground on the generator side of the electrical system, not the short power side. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated?

View the latest post Attachment(s) Carver 444 Ice maker question

Our new to us Carver 444 has an ice maker that gets cold but doesn't make ice. We are trying to decide if it's worth having someone come out to fix it. It would be at least $200 just get someone there. Curious if anyone has had this same issue? Also, do you use this ice just for coolers or do you put it in drinks too?
