View the latest post Bonding system cleanup and repair
- Posted by: BarryK » June 17th, 2021, 1:56 pm
- Forum: Electrical
Hi all,
I just cleaned the bilge and it is time to address the bonding system on this 31 year old salt water boat.
All of the bonding connections and bus bars are green with corrosion. I will check the ohms with a meter. What is the best way to clean off the corrosion? Will I need to cut off the ring terminals and put on new ones? Should I replace the screws and washers that connect the ring terminals to the bus bars? Are these brass or some other material?
The system is working I guess since the large zinc on the back of the boat is being consumed normally.
Thanks,
Barry

- Forum: Electrical
Hi Everyone, I like most people with an older boat find myself working on lots of random things, and in some cases documentation is good and in others I am coming up short on finding things. Does anyone know where I can get wiring diagrams? I and to do some work on my instrument panel on the upper helm specifically at this time. So any help with this specific area would be greatly appreciated. Wire colors, routing etc.... but in general it would be great to have detail for the entire boat.
Thanks,
Russ

View the latest post Attachment(s) Upgrading 356 AC Units to WiFi Control
- Posted by: Adaptel » June 17th, 2021, 11:32 am
- Forum: AC/Heat, Plumbing & Sanitation
Hello All,
I just upgraded my 1988 3207 to a beautiful 2001 356 and the first project I feel I need to tackle is finding a way to control the status of the Marine Air air conditioners remotely. It would be amazing not to arrive to a boat that is 100+ degrees especially when the cabin windows do not open.
My initial research tells me that this is possible and I could use the Micro-Air EasyTouch Wifi Thermostat, but to do so would also require updating the control boards in the CabinMate model units to go from the Passport-II system to the Passport-IO control system. Is this correct?
They sure do not make this easy. Is this a solid route to go, or should I consider some other solution? Can the CANBus be connected between the two a/c units (so settings can be changed on either thermostat), or do they operate completely independent? Thanks in advance.

Good Morning
My husband and I have just become new owners of a 1995 Carver 390 MY. This is a big step from our Maxum 3200 SCR so we are definitely on a learning curve. Looking forward to getting settled in this weekend in our new to us floating cottage!

I have a 1997 Voyager 320 with twin 350 Crusaders at about 870 hours each, twice this year, upon starting, port engine started at 1300 rpm and would not come down, while starboard started and immediately reduced to 600 RPM. In one case was at fuel dock, I know I approached dock at 600 rpm and did not touch throttle prior to restart, telling me its not a throttle position issue. This time ran the boat when out of speed zone to cruising speed for 10 minutes, reduce speed, and again would not go below 1300, Anchored for 5 hours, then when restarted came right back to 600 rpm with starboard engine. Marina wont do anything if it doesn't occur when they are on the boat, Would really like this fixed as docking or maneuvering in an anchorage with one engine at 1300, the other at even 1000, setting aside damaging the transmission, poses a challenge to maneuver.
thoughts?

John Bouy has made the move! We just received word that it has arrived at it's new home, Northern Harbour, Lake of the Woods, ON. The border has opened so we can actually go see her! Will go on Saturday to put up the bimini but wont be staying overnight. Don't think that they will have the rudders and props put back on in time. All the Manitobans are getting their boats put in.

I wanted to start another subject as I am considering getting the boat to a marina that can do my repair. I need to do a 50 mile up the Mississippi run from Kaskaskia River to Hoppies. The current runs between 6-8 MPH against the boat. My plan would be to check transmission temperature (by hand?) and fluid every 3 hours. Then I would need to do a 44 mile run to Alton IL - current may reduce some - for sure by end. Then a 22 mile run to Port Charles Harbor. 116 miles total - plan on running 2000 RPMs. What would you do? Holding no one responsible of my choice:).

My new-to-me Riviera ran well in the fall on its sea trial. upon launch last week in my home waters one of the exhausts wasn't spilling water. I decided to have both impellers replaced, and the pic below proves what a good decision that was as the port engine was not showing any signs of problems. Thank goodness the issue was spotted at the time of launch, close to my slip at the marina.

The speed and log indicators stopped working. I assume the paddlewheel has been blocked with debris. Is this an easy dismantle and clean while in the water? I have a "plug" chained to the transducer but am concerned with needing O-rings or other parts while trying to re-place. Anyone done this with success?
Thanks
