View the latest post Attachment(s) New Carver 530 Owner: Hello!

Greetings,

Today I closed on a very nice Carver 530 Voyager 2001. See pictures. We will be naming her "Copper" after the "Copper River" in Cordova Alaska, which is my home town.

The boat is currently in Cape Coral, FL, and I'll be running her across the state to Cocoa Village Marina over the next few days. We plan to do some ICW cruising on the East coast and spend at least two months in the Exumas next year starting in late Feb early Mar or 2022.

I'm looking forward to exchaning knowledge with everyone on this forum about these very nice boats.

I have been on the water my whole life. I grew up in the commercial fishery in Cordova, AK. I worked my way through college running my family's 50' Seiner in the Copper River Delta as a "tender" (which doesn't mean a small skiff attached to a larger boat in Alaska, but rather a larger boat that buys fish from smaller boats on behalf of a seafood company and then delivers that fish to the processing plant).

I've owned a few pleasure boats: A 34' CHB Trawler in Alaska for nearly 15 years, a 38' 3870 Bayliner, and a 39' Bayliner in Cape Coral, FL since 2006.

This is the largest recreational vessel I've owned or piloted. So far I'm very pleased with how she performs.

Nice to "meet" everyone.

Dave

View the latest post Fan cooled oil cooler for Walter v-drive

Hi all and a question about Walter V-drive. My cooling system on the V-drive is shot. Cover is corroded so bad it pisses out water all around the gasket surface. The actual V-drive is really bad also with corrosion and the bolt holes are shot. Before the salt water eats into the actual gears I want to completely bypass the raw water from the V-drive and go straight to the engine pump. Has anyone replumbed the oil system to a engine oil cooler with a fan? I've been building hot rods since the late 1960's and can't see why this would not be a far better cooling system than raw water that eats it away as it cools. I know boats aren't cars so any input pro or con greatly appreciated. :help:

View the latest post Attachment(s) 1998 Carver 350 Mariner port side window

Hi all, I have a 1998 Carver 350 Mariner. The port side window is broken and needs to be replaced. Carver gave me the manufacture that was making the window for that model, Taylor Made Systems. They don't manufacture those windows anymore and gave me another manufacturer, Ocean Dynamics in Miami. Does anyone have any ideas where I can get a window?

View the latest post Attachment(s) 1998 350 Mariner - General Questions

Good morning everyone!
We are settling in to our 350 Mariner and so far, very much enjoying her. She is a lot more modern than our 1990 38 Santego and that has its pros and cons, but we love her.
Have a few general questions and am looking for a fellow 350 Mariner owner that is just more familiar with the model.
1) Has anyone added anything to the deck to help with how sloped it is and the potential of something going over? We haven't lost anything yet, but I feel it is inevitable.
2) Has anyone converted the entertainment area to anything else? Ours has a dvd player and outdated electronics and it looks like a great deal of space that could be more functional. Not sure what all is back there... I haven't explored it yet. We do not watch TV so currently its useless for us.
3) Has anyone updated the flooring in a 350 Mariner? If so I would love pics of your project.
4) In the cockpit, there are upholstered approx 5x20 thin cushions port and starboard interior. Behind those are approx 4" circular cutouts that open in to the engine compartment. I have found water intrusion there, as they are only covered by these cushions and are not sealed in any way. Question... does anyone know why those would be there? I'll try to get pics later today and add them to this thread.

Thanks for any help!

Throwing in some pics as we left the docks this morning. Beautiful morning...

View the latest post 1996 370 Voyager Twin 454 Crusaders

Did Carver ever use LH rotation engines for both Port & Starboard power, with the Starboard engine having a reverse rotation transmission?

New to us 1996 370 Voyager

I was pulling plugs and marking wires at both the cap and plugs on my starboard engine and noticed the firing order on the manifold is the same as my port engine 1,8,4,3,6,5,7,2.... Had to do a double take.... various other clues have me thinking the starboard engine may be a re-power, or at least pulled for a re-build at some point (Pulleys, Pumps, Pan, Block, Manifolds Valve Covers have been painted over with darker blue, the floor between the dinette seats appears to have been dissembled at some point). I would like to contact Carver with serial numbers but cant seem to find them. Where do I look?

TIA

Ken

View the latest post Attachment(s) cummins engine breaker tripping

Hi everyone, I’m in a bit of a bind and could use some help. I have a 2000 Carver 396 with twin cummins 6BT 5.9 engines. Last week I was motoring to have my boat lifted at another marina and the starboard engine quite running. A little searching reviewed that the 10 amp breaker on top of the engine had tripped shutting off the fuel. It continues to trip when you turn on the key. I can’t get a mechanic because they are booked up for most of the summer. Disconnected the fuel shutoff and tied it open and I was able to get the engine started and stayed running , but it tripped again right away. To make things worse the transmission won’t shift without the power. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Russ

View the latest post 46 water heater

I have a 2007 46 MY that has developed a leak in the water heater. The water heater is 20 gallons. Does anybody know the best way to remove it. It appears too big to get past the generator. It is mounted on the port side in the forward part of the engine room.

View the latest post Window vinyl gauge

Hello All,
I have been searching the posts for any related thread on this topic and cannot find one so apologies if it has been discussed already.

I am replacing all the windows on my canvas on my 2003 360. I can't seem to find anywhere on what the recommended gauge should be. I was thinking of doing 40 gauge all around. The folks doing the work for me have 30 gauge on hand, and I'm not sure if that will cut it. Appreciate any feedback,

Thanks!

Any quick fixes or ideas that I might be able to try myself?

Appreciate it!!!
