View the latest post Where to Draw Fuel for New Diesel Heater

Hello Everyone,

I'm beginning my diesel heater installation. I'm installing the heater in the hatch under the salon table. First step was removing the Red Dot which went relatively well. After some leakage, I managed to trim back the coolant hoses and get the space ready for install. I decided not to interrupt the coolant flow circuit for now. It remains a loop.

One of my concerns is where I'm going to draw fuel from. I'm leaning toward installing a bronze "T" in the fuel line after the primary Racor Filters. This may be more of a simple installation rather than tapping into one of the fuel tanks. (If they even have a spare access cap)

Invictus has Cummins 6BT5.9-M's. I won't be running the heater while under way. Is it possible this new "T" might foul up my fuel situation to the engines while running?

Please let me know what you think! I'm anxious to get underway this coming weekend.

Many Thanks, Greg

View the latest post Props

Hi - I'm new to the Carver Forum.
I have a 2002 410 Sport Sedan. The props were changed out at some point by the original owner. It has twin Cummins diesels (370 hp). It struggles to get on plane unless I turn the steering wheel and then it seems break free and come onto plane. Current props are 24x29. I am trying to find out what the original props were on this boat. I think the replacement prop pitch may be too much.

View the latest post 350 Aft Cabin Hydraulic Steering Pressure

During survey the surveyor found that the steering pressure was at 10 lbs. I understand that it's supposed to be 20-25 lbs. I didn't get to see what he was looking at, but pretty sure he saw a gauge. Question is how do you increase the pressure in the system?

View the latest post Replace 5kwGenny with high output alternator

Hello!

Looking for input. Couple of years ago I set up solar on my boat, works like a charm. I can last on the the hook up to 5 days without worrying about charging.

My Kholer generator has broken down, and am thinking of ripping it out of the boat.

I would replace it with a high output alternator on 1 of my engines. I am using the Integral epower alternator as an example.

Running the 1 engine for appox 1 hour at min 1800rpm would generate 8-9kw (according to their literature).

Why would I not just get rid of the Genny, take it out of the boat and rely on 1 engine to run for 1 hour per week to recharge my batteries (LIFPO batteries).

Genny is currently broken, going to take 2k$ to fix.

I could sell it for half that, fund the alternator for nothing - or at least close to it.

BTW: Some facts

Don't use AC unless on shorepower. Ever.

Rarely use hot water on the hook, swim to bathe. Bio deg soap.

Wash dishes in cold water. Why not.

So... what use is the Genny?

All opinions and thoughts appreciated before I go ahead this spring.

Thanks for helping ahead...

View the latest post Attachment(s) Transducer?

Good morning
On the bottom of my boat I have this sensor? Anyone know what it might be? The wire coming off of it looks like a radio antenna wire or RCA cable.

Thank you

View the latest post Attachment(s) Replacement throttle/gear shifter

Hi guys. Needing some help please. We had a mishap with our vessel, resulting in the lower helm gear shifter snapping (cable got caught underneath and pulled through) we have the replacement cable but I can't find a replacement shifter. We brought one here in New Zealand but it's nothing like the Carver ones and won't work. I can't seem to find anything online. Is there anywhere I can buy parts like this please? It's a 1988 carver convertible 3227

View the latest post New Marina GFI outlet dock boxes

I have a 1987 Mariner moored at a marina that is going through extensive renovations. They have been moving boats around to different slips during their ongoing work and upgrades. They will be shifting me to a final slip in a few weeks and is a newly constructed slip. I have now just heard that boats made before 2012 will have problems hooking up to power. They will trip the GFI breakers on the shore power connections. Probably due to the Neutral and Ground bonded together in the older boats. Anyone have any useful insights on this? What needs to be done? Are there any ramifications for doing any mods?

View the latest post Antifouling….what type?

Just finished shovelling another foot and a half of snow out of the driveway, trying to trick my brain into thinking spring is close…lol. Bottom needs doing on my voyager 28. Question for the group. I believe it’s a copper based Antifouling on there currently, at least that was what the surveyor put in his report when I purchased the boat. It does not rub off easily like an ablative so I believe his assessment to be correct. Overall the bottom is in decent shape. Was planning on a light sanding then a redo. I have used interlux on previous boats but it’s been a while since I did one myself.
What brand/type would you guys recommend for fresh water use going over the old copper stuff. Boat is in Georgian bay. Even though the old stuff is worn, not much algae growth, just a few zebra mussels around the running gear and transom at haul out. Come on spring.
