View the latest post Generator Hydro Lock Help

The owner of my previous boat is having issues with the generator hydro locking every now and then and would like some suggestions on how to eliminate this issue. Seems to happen mostly when anchored out in rough conditions which I assume forces water into the hull exhaust outlet.

The generator was installed by yours truly when I owned the boat. I used the typical wet muffler setup, a Gensep made by Centek to keep exhaust noise to a minimum. I did install the vented loop/siphon break however I am now questioning this as it may not be working as intended all the time. It did happen to me only on 2 occasions when I owned the boat over a period of several years.

For those not familiar with a Gensep unit, it divides the exhaust into 2. An under water outlet for the water and an above water outlet for the fumes. All you here is a slight his from the exhaust, no more burbling noises typical of almost all marine generators. I call it the sailboat burble. :-D

Generator is a Kohler 5E carbed unit with sound shield installed in the location meant for this on the particular boat in question. In fact there was a tray installed at the factory just waiting for a generator.

What causes water to enter the engine from the exhaust and how does one prevent this? Any and all suggestions more than welcome.

Still have pictures. :-D

View the latest post Attachment(s) Volvo Penta QL1200-24 Parts Available

I recently had to replace my QL1200 due to a drive train failure (I haven't taken it apart so I don't know exactly what failed) and I kept all of the parts. If anyone is interested, please let me know.

View the latest post Attachment(s) Fuel Pressure Tester Help - Schrader Valve Size?

2000 Mercruiser 350 Mag MPI Horizon, MEFI 3 - Serial #OL394802
I’m trying to connect a fuel pressure tester to the schrader valve on the front/end of the fuel rail. This seemed simple enough...
I rented a tester from O’Reillys, with many sizes of adapters, clamps, hoses, etc. Nothing in the “kit” fit the threads on this schrader valve. Most were too big. The closest was a “Ford Schrader Valve Adapter.” It appears to be somewhere between 1/4” and 5/16”...or maybe an M8?
Are these an odd “marine” specialty size?

View the latest post Bilge blower

HI
I have a 1989 3807 Aft boat. When I turn on my bilge blower I get a high squeaky squeal, so I presume the blower is going bad. I don't have access to the boat and stupid me forgot to check. Do I have individual blowers at the end of each of the duct work or do I have a single unit.

Thanks,
Mitch

View the latest post Attachment(s) Lets see Clever Storage Ideas

Hi Everyone,

I know as boat owners, we must have some clever ideas when it comes to keeping everything organized. Lots of items, very little space!
What solutions have Carver owners found for organizing? Projects?
Looking for clever ideas for a few bourbon bottles ( a Bar)
Plates/ Cutlery?
Anxiously waiting on the transport company to load my boat and get it here to California

Open question to those that may know........are there any regs that would prevent installing a diesel powered generator in the engine room of a gas engine boat ?

View the latest post Gas Genset availability?

Hi

I have a 1999 350 Mariner. On this haul out, decided it was time to replace the old Kohler 6.5 (never ran right or for very long) with a Westerbeke. n may search, seems gas generators or no longer being manufactured.

Looking f0r comments or suggestion on how to proceed further. Don't really want to pour more money into an old genset, but then again if buying new, take the chance on parts in the future

Thanks

Don
