View the latest post led lights

HI All
I edited my question from last year, I don't know if it shows up as a new post?
I am replacing my interior 20 w halogen lights, with 2W G4 LED , which was recommended to me on my post in the fall. The ones I purchased say non dimmable on the web page, does any one know where i can source the dimmable LED's, I only need for the salon. I have changed out the rest of the boat.
thanks
Don

View the latest post Different shaft rotational resistance

The port prop shaft in my 1985 3207 with crusader 270s offers more resistance to turning than the starboard shaft. The starboard shaft rotates quite easily by hand whereas the port shaft has noticably more resistance to it. Not crazy, but is definitely noticeable.

The marina mechanic said my starboard side cutlass bearing could use replacing. There isn't much movement in my opinion to warrant replacing yet, but in any case, that is the side that turns more easily, which doesn't make sense to me.

Could it be something in the port engine or transmission that is causing greater resistance?

View the latest post Good deal on 5/8 double braided anchor line

I was looking for new anchor line and thought I'd pass this link along. I only needed 1/2 in for my 3207, but bought this 5/8 150' for the same price. no, I'm not a seller. Just sharing the link as it seemed like a good deal..

View the latest post Ultra Leather Cleaning & Conditioning

Hey folks.
I would like to know how you clean and condition the 'ultra leather' fabric in the main salon? I did find this one item that specifically states 'ultra leather' in its language but could not find anything else. https://www.goclean.com/page_458_125/leather-vinyl-care
The Carver documentation does not mention 'conditioning' the fabric.
I am gonna reach out to the Ultrafabric company on Monday to hear what they say but am interested if any of you folks are doing anything to keep it looking good.
Thanks.

View the latest post Attachment(s) Stern Thrusters

Folks;

My boat currently has a Volvo Penta QL Bow Thruster and I am still researching stern thrusters. I have a large rock shelf on the port side of my boat slip that gives me a bit of stress on a windy day, as the wind has a tendency to push the stern over. I have been fine so far, but I just think a stern thruster in addition to my bow thruster would be really handy. Cost has been a big factor in this decision, but the search still goes on.

I have been looking at two types so far.

The Side Power stern thruster attaches to the transom above the water line and is wireless to the helm switches. It can also thruster to wireless that will work with their dual joy sticks as well as a wireless remote. I can install this unit myself and they suggest it will take 6-8 hours.

The other one is more common and made by Side Power. This unit has the motor mounted inside the boat and a tunnel on the outside below the water line. This requires a number of holes (10) to drilled through the transom under the water line. The installation of this unit would be a bit more complicated and may require the assistance of a professional. The struggle would be ensuring there is sufficient room on the inside of the transom for the motor. This unit also has a dual joystick that will operate the QL.

Both units are approximately the same dollar value, however, if you add professional installation you are double the cost, which makes me wonder if it is worth it in the end.

I posted this to see if anyone has any experience with either of the products and offer an opinion to assist me in making the best decision.

Thanks in advance.

Greg

View the latest post Longtime live aboard-new Carver owner

Just wanted to say hi. We've lived aboard now for over seven years on a variety of boats. In the middle of transitioning to an 88 Santego 27 that we just acquired. In decent shape, but LOTS of questions. Thanks for adding us. :captain:

View the latest post Attachment(s) Weird Control Console Question

Just. . . and I do mean Just. . .acquired an 88 Santego 27. It's in great shape, but the control console has bleached out totally, leaving me facing a bank of switches and guages with no idea at all what they're supposed to do. We've done a good deal of switch flipping and trying to see what happens, but that strikes me as somewhat ill-advised. Does anyone have a console map for this vessel? The owner's manual (original) oddly doesn't appear to have one. I guess they just figured you'd read the labels. . . .which are now blank.

Anyone?

View the latest post How to get rid of gasoline smell

I've bought a boat that *needs work*. One of the fuel tanks has had a gasoline leak for some time. Now with the leaking tank removed, how do I go about getting rid of the lingering gas smell? Naturally my main concern is with soft surfaces. I don't mind replacing the carpet, but I don't want to have to remove the headliner.

Thanks.

View the latest post Attachment(s) 2000 506

I am about to install a wireless remote helm control to the 506 drive and thruster system. I developed the system a few years ago for my Searay and installed and used it to single hand the boat as my wife is not comfortable handling the lines on the larger boats of late. I built and installed several of these systems on Cummins powered Sea Rays with electrically controlled drives and electric bow and stern thrusters. Installation on the Sea Rays was pretty simple and straight forward with the dual controls with separate drive levers so the remote receiver could be mounted adjacent the electronics locker and a short wire run to the controls harness. On the Single lever Volvo powered Carver 506 I have to parallel the drive control in the engine room and run a wire loom to the helm where the receiver will be mounted. I am wondering what the path is for the engine room wiring loom from the Helm to the Engine room. Are there any 506 owners here that have done any of their own work requiring wire runs from the helm to the engine room?
I have an owners manual for the boat but Carver's manuals suck compared to Sea Ray, My next stop will be to call Carver for specific drawings.
One I have the system installed and working Ill post if anyone is interested in one for their boat. It is similar to a Yacht Controller for a fraction of the cost.
