Has anyone installed electric fuel pumps on a Gen V 7.4 Mercruiser? I have the mechanical fuel pump on the sea water pump. Getting tired of changing the 90 weight inside each year, due to recommendations and thinning out.

View the latest post New Carver C36 Owner in California

Hi Everyone
I've been "looking" for boats for almost 15 years! Well, we just closed on a 2019 Carver C36 Command Bridge Diesel!
I initially was looking at older Meridians 341, and 391's , but decided to go with this boat, because of a few modern touches..the most Notable, being the French Door really making the cockpit and salon ..one entire usable space on the boat! ALso the carver C series really rode very well! 13' beam!
My last boat was a 2000 Sea Ray Sundancer Gas.
Heck, I dont have the manuals yet but looking forward to learning the systems and my son and I plan to become very proficient at docking, anchoring, proficient boat handling!

This has been a long long journey..and I am so looking forward to the spring and summer on the water here in SoCal.
One of the big reasons I pulled the trigger on THIS particular boat, is that it only has 95 hrs!
I was wondnering if anyone here has transferred their warranty with Carver?, I will be the second owner and the boat was just sold in 2020 to the original owner. I dont know what the first step is to transfer the warranty. Does anyone have contact info to the Carver factory?

Thanks Everyone

View the latest post Rochester NY Carver wannabee

Hello folks,

Have owned a few trailer-sailor sailboats around 18', a 15' bowrider outboard for 10 years and now find myself enjoying a small 11' sailboat but thinking about a first cruiser / dock condo. I find the accommodations below of larger sailboats and sport cruisers a bit dark - like the light atmosphere of a sedan cruiser (if I am using that term right).

I am getting fond of the mid 80's Carver 28' Voyager/Mariner's. This is based on some assumptions from reading and some experience around the dock but I'd love some input. Im in Rochester NY and my use would be Great Lakes, bays, Canals (Erie, Rideaux, Trent...).

  • Qualified marine surveyor and mechanic for pre-purchase inspection(s)
  • Aft engine bays in cockpit make maintenance easier than larger Carvers with bays in living space?
  • Two engines simplifies marina navigation and redundancy = safety
  • The 28' Mariner / Voyager should be livable for 2+ cruising and day sailing 6
  • At this vintage I am seeing carburetors. Hold out for fuel injection?
  • GPH seems ok at low end speeds. I'm in no hurry usually
  • I understand these are considered small for flybridge, so reducing those aloft when underway in weather.
  • Not seeing any model / Manufacturer specific flaws (ie Trojan f32's seem to have stringer issues)

I'd welcome your thoughts - thank you.

Two questions. Does any one know if there are anode (s) on this model and if not, why not?
I have the parts breakdown manual and couldn’t find it, but it’s over 120 pages long given it includes similar models. It’s possible I missed it.
Mine is within a sound shield and very difficult to see from all angles. Ironically I recently had the shield off but was focused on cleaning up changing my coolant change and wasn’t looking for an anode.
Anyway, I was just curious about that given I change my main Volvo engine anodes every winter. And in addition I have heard of other generators that do have zinc anodes.

View the latest post Original TV connections on 3207

I just bought a 1984 3207 and it still has the TV cable port and cable connections in the three cabins. Does any one still have these and use them? It seems like a hot spot is really all the family needs.

View the latest post Source maintenance parts for 5.7L online

I just bought a 1984 Carver 3207 and I have a couple of questions.

1. What's a good online source for external engine consumables?
Distributor caps
Points, condensers, rotor buttons (I'll be upgrading to electronic at some point)
Plugs
Plug wires
Thermostats
Gaskets
Hoses
Filters
Belts

2. From the above list, which part need to be marine grade?

Thanks.

View the latest post [1991 26 command aka 28 Sedan] Bilge logistics

So here I was: the boat smells like Diesel and I got to the conclusion that fuel was spilled along the fuel tank.

So I thought up all kinds of really smart ways to clean it all under there.

And then I found out that up forward, under the 'bed' there's trouble: water has been seeping through a badly positioned wire-through hole in the anchor locker, along the bow center, under the carpets towards the area above the bow thruster. Result: rotten floor and a foul smell.

Removed the soft parts of the floor and found that the bilge around the fwd thruster has a small hole towards the area under the fuel tank

This leads me te believe (well... hope) that there IS a hole for liquid to flow from front to back to the engine room's bilge. Is this a reasonable conclusion?

What I will do:

remove the water tank (it's in the way of any holes (for fuel lines and power cables) between living area and engine room), Perhaps remove completely and mount a flexible 120 litres water 'tank) up front. That should reveal what is and what is not available as 'route' for bilge water from the front to the back. Anyone know what to expect?

And I will devise an air ventilation that sucks air from the fuel tank area into the bilge (diesel, no vapor risks), with a small 0,something mA fan to minimse any smell buildup in the living area. The boat is on shore power or engines running most of the time anyway so battery power loss is no big issue, I will however, add a battery saver (shut off below 11,xx V).

Middle square tub has shifter engages top and bottom helm. I don't know exact name for it or terminalogy, whats the name , maybe systematic it is why I'm here? :banghead:
