View the latest post Troublesome GFI

We’ve recently taken possession of a 1991 Carver 3608. She is our third Carver and we just love her.
The craft has been well maintained but we are experiencing trouble with a GFI outlet which is situated in the entertainment cabinet in the aft cabin. After operating the engines the GFI trips and, as it is “hidden” in a cupboard for some reason, l do sometimes forget to check it which is a problem as it is on the same circuit as the battery charger. Has anyone else experienced this problem and any thoughts on why this GFI is located where it is. Thanks

View the latest post Attachment(s) 99/00 44 Hardtop express thoughts, opinions, reviews, etc

I'm very familiar with the Sea Ray line up and currently considering a 99-02 400 SunDancer with Cat 3116/3126 engines.

Came across a 2000 Trojan Hardtop Express made by Carver with Volvos and have lots of questions.

Any owners on here? The specs from the 40 SeaRay to 44 Carver/Trojan are pretty different obviously. The Trojan is a much bigger boat all around. We'd be using it on the Chesapeake Bay.

Thanks in advance for the comments!

View the latest post 2007 40 MY salon AC access

Hey all,

We are recently proud owners of a new to us 2007 40 MY model 3808, and the learning has begun...

I found under berth access to 2 stateroom AC of the 3 AC units on-board, but the unit in the salon is behind panels on the starboard side above the stairs to the aft cabin, but below the floor of the cockpit above. No clues in the manual about how to access this unit for maintenance (cleaning screens, coolant, etc. etc.)

Anybody have any suggestions about how to access this unit?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions / reference to other homework I can do on maintaining our new cruiser...

View the latest post 2007 40MY bow porthole/skylight

Hey all,

New to forum and our family is proud owner of new to us 2007 40 Motor yacht, model 3808. So the learning has begun as this is our first cruiser... loving the adventure!

An interesting one that I can't find in manuals or videos... The bow cabin has a porthole/skylight with an inside "1/2 1/2" cover that slides across the opening. One half is screen and the other half is blackout shade. But the latches for opening the porthole are on the other side of the cover and not obvious how to "open" the cover. I've tried some additional force on the tabs of the two covers but they don't want to separate and I don't want to break the whole cover...

Anybody have suggestions for what I am doing wrong here?

View the latest post 280 sedan/26Command Engine hatch hinges / backseat questions

If anyone has a picture or two from the engine room hatches insides I'd appreciate it. I'd like to know what kind and how they were attached.

On my boat, the covers are completely loose. So no hinges, rusted twist 'lock'. In the wiring diagrams I found a 'engine room lighting' item. Obivously that's also gone over time.

Currently I have to lift the hatch to the side from the center, it's travel hampered by a seat-hinge-mount thing so have to lift it a bit awkwardly and then balance it in the groove. That of course is not very safe so when I want to get into the engine bay, I put them against the stern in the groove and fix it with a line.

My idea is to use some electric pistons, these are available in many lenghts. But the hinges are a question for the moment. I haven't seen much remnants of them so am curious to know how it was originally.

And how is the bench supposed to be mounted? The current hinges (with a removable pin) are a pain. A hassle to remove the bench (can't open the hatch otherwise) and they're in the way of travel. Where the supporting 'poles' under the seat originally in some kind of receptacle in the hatch? I've got two holes there now. Not pretty.

Thanks in advance

View the latest post Hatch lens replacement

As winter looms on, I have removed the forward hatch on my 390CPMY to replace the “glass/polycarbonate “ panel. Getting the old one out was easy, a slice with a razor blade around the edge and out it came. I* have seen many ideas of refloating a piece in using butyl. I have been looking for a replacement piece, but Lexan is either clear or lightly smoked or just plain old black. Any ideas of a source? Carver referred me to Bomar, but they have no direct fit and advised to use Lexan. I also have used just plain old clear silicone to secure panels like this in before. Any ideas? Yes? no?.

Thanks and Merry Christmas!

Tony
