View the latest post Attachment(s) Bonding Efficiency

Hello Folks.
When I took her out this past week (the boat...not the admiral!) there were circular 'stains' surrounding any thru-hull fittings. It is my understanding that this indicates a level of galvanic corrosion and poor grounding.
I employ the use of zinc anodes on the shafts, trim tabs, each of the engines and there is a stern 'block' of zinc. Last season I gave the latter a good tightening.
Question: Is there a 'sure-fire' way to determine if the 'green' bonding wires inside the boat are actually doing their job? Those wires are attached to all thru-hull components as well as the engines. I believe that they terminate aft at the zinc block.
A guy at the yard said my boat was the worst of the lot and he tells me there is definitely a grounding issue with the boat.
What say you? Thanks.

View the latest post To winterize or not to winterize - that is my question

I am taking my Carver 3607 1989 from Iowa (Mississippi mile marker 503) to Nashville. I am currently in Paducah needing a fuel pump. I was under the assumption with the Cumberland river not freezing - I would not need to winterize the boat and could use it through out the winter when nice weather approached the Nashville area (my son lives there - can keep an eye on the boat). I think I may assumed wrong, or at least need plans for an ugly cold period. All my research leads to these options: 1. Winterize the boat and give up on getting in boating this winter (I hate this option), 2. Winterize the boat and learn how to re-winterize when needed -sounds painful, but maybe it's not as bad as I think - only the engines would be needed - I can forgo the water system and generator. 3. Buy a safe type heater and make sure my son / someone checks on the boat - possibly install temp monitors (I am an IT guy so know this technology well). Opinions?

View the latest post Aft Bench Seat Cover for a 1989 3467 Santego

Hi Carver Experts!
Can one of you tell me where to get an aft bench seat cover for my 1989 3467 Santego? The old cover is wearing out and I like to cover the seat when I leave the boat to keep the Spider POOH off of it as much as possible.

Thank you in advanced.

Sincerely,
Sick of Spiders a.k.a. William :help:

View the latest post Best way to remove sludge from engine?

I just got through replacing valve stem seals (puffing blue smoke on start up) on a 88’ crusader 454. 12 out of the 16 seals were split down the middle. Due to the oil leaking on top of the valves, I noticed a lot of sludge on the top of the intake valves. Guessing the exhaust valves may be the same. Does anybody have recommendations to clean these up? I’ve read some about Seafoam and Marvel Mystery Oil. Will it take care of itself after run a while?
Thanks,
Vic

View the latest post hi new member, from Montreal

Hi all , I presently have a swift 34 Beneteau 2016 and I'm thinking of selling for the reason of having a bigger boat. I fell upon the Carver MY 43 also the 444. I really enjoyed the layout of these models. As a boater exploring the different models of Carver, it can be very confusing. so basically what should I look out for when I search a model like the 43 or 444 between the years of 2005 -2009. I am planning to go down to the Bahamas with her. Is she seaworthy? can I travel with this boat several miles from the coastline? I have lots of confidence with my Beneteau swift trawler I just don't know if a Carver of those years can be as sturdy as my Swift trawler, any info will appreciated. :beergood:

View the latest post Fuel issues

We purchased a 2000 53’ Voyager in December of last year. The boat had sat for 2 years so we knew that there would be multiple projects.

We cannot seem to fix fuel issues created by the lack of use. We have fungus in our tanks and have tried many things to try and fix including fuel polishing , bio cide fuel additive, over 550 gallons of new diesel and we change the racor filters every eight hours.

Is there anyone who can give us guidance on what we need to do next?

View the latest post Looking for Advice on Survey to buy a boat

Hello, we are new to purchasing a big boat. We are in the process of purchasing a 1989 Carver 3607. The boat looks nice.
From an aesthetic standpoint, it seems clean and in good shape (for a boat its age). We have had minimal contact with the owners and are working through the owner of the marina, who is doubling as the broker. The broker/marina owner seems trustworthy and we will likely keep the boat at that marina (so not like he will sell us a bad boat and we will never see him again). The boat was almost sold in August and had a survey. The purchaser backed out due to realizing how much it would cost him to move the boat to his home port (so we are told...seems like an odd reason to back out). We were able to get a copy of the survey from August 2020. There were more things on the survey than we expected. Some things we knew about but others we did not. Many seem like small things but my concern is that it might point to an owner who might not have taken care of things??? Below are the things wrong from the survey. Can you give me your opinion? Are these minor things not to worry about and just get fixed on our own? Or, should we run? Thank you for your thoughts.

Generator-not running due to low fuel (broker said he added fuel and it works fine)
Main salon a/c-not working, bad compressor (we knew this in advance)
Aft head not functioning, not fully installed (broker willing to put a new tank in)
Garmin 210-did not power up
Raytheon R10 – did not power up
No signaling devices (flares)
Extinguishers empty
No bell
Flame arrestors-serviceable but dirty
CO2 detectors out of date
Batteries not secured
No GFI’s on boat
Lower VHF is new but not fully installed
Shower hoses not functioning
Air filters/flame arrestors are dirty
Aft hvac drain is not connected for drain and filter is dirty
Holding tank needs commissioning
Large air bubble in compass globe
Foredeck reads 25% moisture and soundings are soft. (caulking was added around the windless to fix water going in)
Spot light illuminates but does not articulate
Latch is off forward sink hatch
Snug bolts holding radar arch in place
Stainless steel radar arch has been cut on port side, needs secure
Waste system not functional
Fuel gauge not working
Upper and lower port tach not working correctly
Upper wheel is lose
Horn does not work
