View the latest post 2003 460 Voyager w/ TAMD75E Volvo Engines
- Posted by: Rocketman » October 26th, 2020, 6:17 pm
- Forum: Introduce Yourself!
Just put the paperwork in on a 2003 460.
Engines have 895 hours. Generator has 750 hours.
Engines are Volvo TAMD75E 480hp.
Looking for any and all good info on the boat.
Real world fuel economy numbers at say 10 mph and approx 20 mph cruise.
Will be wanting to change out all the lights to LED.
Ice maker on bridge is cooling but not making ice. Would like to be able to use it if anyone has any suggestions. I am not sure if it is the water valve or the head unit.
Any other good info would be appreciated. I am sure I will have lots of questions once we close the deal.
Thanks,
Tony

View the latest post CO2 in the Cabin
- Posted by: TheNatalina » October 26th, 2020, 5:23 pm
- Forum: General Repairs & Maintenance
During cruise and while piloting from the Bridge of our 1984-85 Carver 28 Voyager my CO2 detector will often pick up a reading and begin sounding an alarm. We have twin Mercruisers (GM 350s) and they are operating normally and are well maintained (fluids, filters, etc.) We keep all the windows and doors and hatches closed so I am trying to figure out how fumes are getting into the Main Cabin. The area under the refrigerator is partially open to the Bilge Compartment, so this could be the culprit, although it appears to be designed to be open. Or, this opening could have been a 'modification' from a prior owner and a it should be completely sealed. I can't find any reference in our books and manuals. In the interim I placed some flexible foam insulation under refrigerator opening, but the problem persists. Also, I typically run our Blowers while underway. Has anyone had this problem and if so, found a remedy? Any ideas how we might tighten up the cabin to shut down the CO2? What about the area under the refrigerator - should is be partially open? We would like to continue to operate in cold weather (and pilot from inside the Cabin) but don't want to fall over from fumes during a Winter Cruise (plus, the beeping of the CO2 alarm is very loud, even from the Bridge).
I am a novice boater, so don't take my level of boat knowledge for granted. Fire away with any comments and suggestions. Thanks!

View the latest post Shore power 1 causing shore power 2 breaker to trip
- Posted by: SaltyCracker » October 26th, 2020, 10:56 am
- Forum: Electrical
I have a 1995 Carver 325 aft cabin. Shore power 2 runs my 2 AC units and the pump. With both AC's running they draw about 22 amps and are trouble free. However, when there is a significant load put on shore power 1 (microwave, water heater, toaster etc.) this often causes the shore power 2 main breaker to trip.
When this happens the load on shore power 1 is not what I would consider to be excessive, typically pulling around 15 amps.
Any suggestions of what may be causing this or where to start troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated.

View the latest post 120VAC outlets in the engine room
- Posted by: km1125 » October 26th, 2020, 10:40 am
- Forum: Electrical
On a different thread, there was some discussion about whether or not 120VAC outlets could be mounted in an engine room.
I wanted to follow up on that, because my last boat had one (that was installed post-manufacturer) and I was just on a boat this past weekend (2015 470 Sea Ray) which also had one that was obviously manufacturer-installed.
I'm wondering what the exact language is? I have an older copy of the ABYC rules and don't see anything in there. I would expect it to be covered in section E-8.15, but the only thing I see there is about putting them in areas subject to "rain, spray or flooding" and if you need to do that it has to have a spring-loaded self-closing cover.
Is there more language in later versions of the ABYC standards?

View the latest post House bank addition to 310 Santego
- Posted by: Capn Crunch » October 25th, 2020, 11:27 am
- Forum: Electrical
Our Santego has 2 batteries only for engines and house combined, with a separate battery mounted on the bridge for i presume the windlass (not in use when we took possession of her)
Given space limitations where have others added a house bank on this model of Carver?
Thanks for your suggestions.

View the latest post Generator Diesel Fuel Shut Off Valve
- Posted by: Midnightsun » October 25th, 2020, 10:02 am
- Forum: General Repairs & Maintenance
Changed my generator filter last week. Found out it has no shutoff valve so I used a vice grip to squeeze the feed line shut while I replaced the filter. Worked fine but figured I should make this right by installing a small 3/8" ball valve since the line is marked as 3/8". Will install close to filter for easy access in the future.
Question, is there any need for something special for a valve? I assume this is fine with a couple of good hose clamps on each end?

We just bought a 350 Mariner, should be here in about a week or so. It's been one heck of a process buying a boat in another city but we think it's worth the wait.

Came across this, for the price it is a bargain. A little over $150US delivered. Compressor driven and can freeze down to -20. Not sure what we will use it for but I am sure it will come in handy. It is rather small however it can hold 9 bottles of wine.
Runs of 12v or 120vOrdered one from the US warehouse and had it shipped to my brothers house in NH. Shipping is 4-6 days.
Cannot comment as I do not have it yet and do not expect my brother to bring it down before mid December.
Have ordered several times in the past from Banggood, never an issue.

2 weeks since CBTL was put on the hard. Starting to think about next season, but it is so far off!
So, thinking about taking a Keys vacation in early January. Arrive in Miami, rent a convertible, and drive the Keys. Probably stay in Key Largo as a home base, and drive to different sites. Questions for any Keys Carver owners:1. What is the COVID situation down there? 2. Any suggestions or thoughts on must see, or must experience opportunities? 3. Any particular marinas I should visit to get my mid-winter marina fix? Thanks! It is always better to get input from the locals.
