View the latest post Greetings from the Chesapeake Bay norfolk area.

I just purchased a 1984 Carver 3607 Aft Cabin.

I bought it in Islip Long Island NY. Hopped on it and began my trek to Norfolk Virginia.

Day 1 survived the trip in the Atlantic with my 36 year old project, ported in Atlantic City on starboard engine only, previous owner indicated he had shortened the fuel tank pickup to keep dirt from clogging system 30 gallons short??? Realized that my course put me out of cell phone range and probably VHF range of shore. A bit of a rude awakening losing sight of America.

Day 2 Survived the atlantic again, Came in on starboard engine only, apparently need to do a little maintenance Cleaned water separator filter. 5 minute project became 5 hours due to limited tools and a very stuck separator.

Day 3 leaving Ocean city I tested the 36 year old super structure leaving the inlet. Fridge flew from its mounts as I buried the bow pulpit in the ocean repeatedly. Considered turning around but it turned out to be an artifact of the inlet magnifying the 4 to 5 foot seas to 6 to 8 foot I would guess. 5 minutes of excitement became a day of excitement as the seas were still a challenge for the tiny ship. fuel pitstop before the upcoming fuel desert Chincoteague. Chincoteague to Norfolk 87 miles or so through the fuel desert with my 5 gallon reserve on deck I made it running on vapors.

Now the project begins a winter of turning my 36 year old girl into something my wife wont hate me for.

Project 1 portlights are in disrepair. Project 1 already proving to be challenging. I will find the right place to pose my question.

These filters are hard to come by not to mention expensive. Found this on eBay, bought 4 to help absorb shipping costs so I have for 2 years. https://www.ebay.ca/itm/273809223390

View the latest post new for us

We just joined this forum this morning. We recently purchased a '86 Carver Santa Cruz 26 foot. We are new to this size of boat and thought this would be a good place for information on our boat. We have been doing a little work on it. Right now I'm looking for the original stile anchor and generator. Thanks in advance for any information.

View the latest post Well, I did it!

Signed a contract on an '83 3607on the Tennessee River.

Why? Darned if I know.

Boat hasn't been used much in last few years, but not in really bad shape.

Names that pop into my head are: DAMN BOAT for obvious reasons, and MAILORDER BRIDE, because they always look better in pictures than in real life.

Since I'll be single handling her most of the time, hope I haven't bitten off more than I can chew. Time will tell.

Expect to see a lot of dumb questions (yes, they do exist) from me.

Happy motoring

Ed

View the latest post Heated Storage & Fresh Water Holding Tank

Hi all,

What is recommended for your fresh water holding tank when your boat is in heated storage? Our haul out is next week and I've heard people say empty the tank and other say fill it and treat it with a small amount of bleach. Like half a capful per 10 gallons? Just looking for recommendations.

Thanks!

John

View the latest post Font from the logo for the name

Does anyone know what font is used in the Carver text on the side? (1991) I'm not very good at scrolling through hundreds of fonts to get a similar one (after 25 they all seem alike) so would be happy with a pointer in the right direction.

I'd like to use the same font for the registration number on the hull rather than some fancy or prehistoric default font.

View the latest post Bilge Blower Replacement on a 530

Hi Folks,

So, none of my four bilge blowers on my 2003 530 are working. It me a while to find them. The are wedged between the fuel tanks and the hull with essentially no way to access them that I can see. Has anyone attempted such a repair?

many thanks
Tim

View the latest post Bow Thruster Started up on its own!

Hi Folks,

I have a 2003 530 Voyager. I live on the boat on and off. A couple weeks ago I was awoken in the middle of the night to the bow thruster running. It is a Volvo Penta BP1200 (24v). I rushed to the helm and tried reversing direction and deactivating the station. I also went to the upper helm and repeated this. No effect! I continued to fiddle and it would stop for a second when I reversed direction, then start up on its own again. After a couple minutes it stopped on its own and did not repeat this through the rest of the night. Later, I flipped the master switch in the engine room to be sure there was no repeat performance. This could have been a disaster if I hadn't been on the boat.

Question: what might have caused this malfunction? This could have been really serious if it had happened while docking. The relay? The joystick (rocker)? A loose wire? LoL. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks
Tim

View the latest post 355 Aft Cabin Muffler

Does anyone have any knowledge of the exhaust system on a 95 355 Aft?

Motors - 454 Crusaders

When I start the port motor for the first time after a period of "rest", the muffler is clearly empty. It takes about a minute to completely fill up and start doing it's job. When I shut the motor off, water continues to drain from the exhaust for maybe 5 minutes before stopping.
To me it sounds like even when the muffler is full that the port motor is louder than the starboard. The starboard starts a little loud, but then quickly goes almost silent.

My guess is something is broken inside the muffler. I'm wondering if it's worth cutting open to repair, or just buy a new one... Not sure what parts are actually in the muffler, maybe some form of flap that broke/cracked. which is question 2.. any idea where to get a new muffler? I'm thinking it's a Centek unit maybe? No stickers or numbers on it.

Just for clarification, there's no exhaust leak in the bilge or in the boat. The problem is internal to the muffler.
Plenty of water is flowing through the exhaust. The impeller is recent and flows strong and equal to the starboard side.

Oh and my wife says not to fix it, she likes the noise! haha! I'd like to try to improve it if posssible

Thoughts/Ideas?

Thanks
