View the latest post New 1999 Carver 406 Aft Cabin Owner

Doing my sea trial on a 1999 Carver 406 Aft Cabin this Saturday. A survey was completed late May and it was EXCELLENT with really no deficiencies. The boat is absolutely clean and in great shape. My only concern is that it has twin Volvo 7.4l Gi (310 HP) engines and wondering if it is seriously underpowered. We will cruising in the Northern Great Lakes home port will be Frankfort or Suttons Bay, Michigan.

I would welcome any experiences with this boat. Would love to have an idea on ideal cruising speed/RPM, fuel consumption expectations, etc. Any areas to watch out for or other or other suggestions.

Thanks,

View the latest post Starting problem on my 2001 Carver 404

I recently purchased a Carver 404 Yacht. The boat is great. But, the headaches... UGH!

The boat has 4 6-Volt "house" batteries. It also has 2 starter batteries fir the engine (and another battery for the generator). When I switch the battery selector to #2, the boat starts fine. However, when I switch the battery selector to #1, I hear "clicking" but the engine will not start.

I replaced all house and the #1 batteries. This did not help. Also, when running on battery power (not shore power), lights dim and equipment flickers on/off. Obviously, in replacing all the batteries, I examined & changed all battery connections.

I suspect that, in the 20 years that the boat has been around, someone may have changed the wiring. I have searched for a wiring diagram without success. After replacing the batteries, I don't know the next step.

Any help would be really appreciated.

View the latest post Looking for 3297 canvas, steps and replacement bridge deck hatch.

Hi All,

New owner hear and just finished a reporter on my 3297. I am now in search of anyone with full canvas for a 1989 3297. I also need a replacement hatch for the bridge deck (25”/25”) and the first step on both cockpit ladders. Any ideas are welcome and used parts are good parts I say.

Best,

Jeff

View the latest post More throttle, less speed/rpm

I have a 2002 396 that I recently purchased and, as I understand, hasn't been run very much in the past two years.

I had the engines inspected by Cummins, oil changed, etc. Both starboard and port checked out and ran like monsters.

When I first took her out, I could easily do 3000 rpm and make 20 knots. The throttles were uneven when synced, but that didn't bother me too much at the time. Not to mention, the sticks were only at about 3/4 throttle. I had plenty more room to go.

As a few weeks went by, I noticed I had to push the throttles more and more forward to get more speed. Pretty soon, I had the "balls to the walls" and I was only getting 2500 rpm and making only 16 knots. And now the sticks are even when synced.

My marina mechanic thought for sure it was fuel filters (I thought it that was a good idea as she hadn't been run or cared for for two years) He changed the filters and took her out and experienced the same problem... but didn't know what else to do (great mechanic, aye?)

Anyone have experience with this problem or have an idea where to start looking for the problem?

View the latest post WOT #

I have a 1994 390 CPMY with 454 gas. Plate states WOT is 4400. We are running 22 x 22 props high are the line ticket builder specs. I BARELY hit 4000 under ideal conditions and she is a hungry gal for gas, because I believe teh engines are working too hard. I was going to swap out to a 22 x 21, that should give me 1550/200 more revs to. Put me in the middle of the range. My prop shop said he would rather go to 22 x 20 to allow. Me to hit the 4400.

What are you all running for pros and WOT? I know numbers don’t lie, but do i want to hit 4400 or stay in the middle.

View the latest post Attachment(s) Shower bilge pump help santago 2767

New boat to me, the in line bilge pump for the shower drain and the a/c is not working. The water holding box has a float but nothing is pumping out. I have a picture attached of what I think is the pump but have found very little information on it. Is a box trap with float and pump built in an replacement an option? I will be power checking the wiring this weekend to make sure I have power to it and looking for an inline fuse. Currently the mid pump in front of the aft bedroom is also not working. Which is where the water ends up as it over flows.

View the latest post Kohler 7.3 Question

Can anyone give me an idea on where to focus troubleshooting for the following issue?
I start the engine, it turns over, runs for 5 seconds and stalls. Last week I replaced the fuel filter. There is plenty of oil and the impeller is new.
All thoughts and leads are appreciated.

View the latest post Props shaft size

I thought I had scored, but need to check further. My 390CPMY with 454’s and Hurths, I buy 1 3/8”. Shaft zincs, and my one prop I replaced was 1 3/8” shaft. I bought a set of 22 x 21 props, as I need to get a higher WOT. However, looks like teh shafts bore is 1 1/4”. I am going to check against the prop I removed. However, my question, is a prop reconditioning shop able to bore out to 1 3/8” ( an additional 1/8”) if needed to use these? Just wondering, or I will probably resell these.
