View the latest post Help with 355 tranny

Hello. My 355 tranny slips and revs out only after running for 15 minutes. 2 questions.

1. It was suggested it may be overheating. Could this be the cause? My next run I’ll put a laser temp huge on it and compare with the other. What should the temp be?
2. If not, tranny removal. Can this be done in the water and what are the instructions to do so? I’m concerned about the prop shaft and have been told several different things, including my boat might sink. It has drip less seals and the 355 has long shafts supported by a bearing support below the boat.

I’d like to know for sure and not just suggestions please. Also one of the Hull valves is stuck open and should be changed on my next haul out.

View the latest post Where do I find Carver parts??

I have a couple little issues with my 2003 360 Sport Sedan. For the life of me, I cannot find any OEM replacement parts online. I found the parts manual and the part numbers of what I am looking for. When I google search, Amazon search, and eBay search, I come up with nothing.

Please help!

View the latest post 1989 3207 Aft Cabin Port engine will not turnover

I have twin MIE Merc 5.7. For some reason the port engine will not turnover when I turn the key from either station. With the key on all functions work, except to engage the starter. Is there a starter slave breaker. I check the 50 amp main breaker and it appears to be closed. With the key on and I attach a remote starter on the 12v and Pos terminal the engine starts right away. Is there a common component that will not let the engine start from either helm station?

Thanks so much for your time,
Terry

View the latest post Mercruiser 454 Carb engines

On my 1994 390 I have the port engine which is original at 1180 hours, Starboard 3 years old at 125 hours. I have been using Quicksilver 25W40 oil and same filters, Quicksilver. What is the opinion of switching to the 25W40 synthetic blend? I don’t run hard if that matters, but those girls are pushing a lot of boat.

View the latest post Overland transport question - from marina to home

I have just closed on the purchase of a Riviera 28, and I am arranging for the boat to be trailered 4.5 hours to my home. I will have it trailered to the destination marina in spring, and will winterize and have it shrink wrapped here for the winter. The transporter is going to assist and supervise the blocking.
I realize that the boat cannot be trailered at highway speeds with canvas up and flying. But what if it rains on the day? Any suggestions about what precautions should be taken in that case? Are there scuppers that will drain the water in the cockpit, which is open to the skies? I am planning to use gorilla tape to secure heavy duty plastic sheeting around and over the helm area and panel - any other suggestions?

View the latest post Replacement water tank

On my 390CPMY I have the 70 gallon potable water tank under the aft bed. It is sort square and approx 48” long. Appears to be more room for a larger tank. I saw the inside of the tank from the inspection plate and it looks like a science project. I use bleach each time I fill it, and use it for showers and washing dishes only when we are on the hook or a mooring. Has anyone replaced their tank with a poly one? If so, where did you get it. I would like to get a 100 gallon tank, same size but longer to fit in there. We have 2.5 days worth of water for myself and the bride, but wish to be able to stay 3 or 4 days. I just bought a water level gauge with a tank sending unit, so I will have a better idea of where I am at use wise. Any info will help, as I have the entire winter to order one and have it made. Thank you all again!

View the latest post Attachment(s) Genset battery switch

My 390CPMY has the battery shutoff switch mounted on the side of the sound cover on the genset. To me, it is a PITA to open the floor to turn on, run genset then do the same to turn off. I am thinking of relocating it on the side of the stairs where my inverter is mounted, ANyone else move their switch?

View the latest post Parts manuals

Reading the answers to a question today I saw bud37's reply referring to a parts manual: https://carveryachts.blob.core.windows. ... ual_96.pdf
...which would be invaluable to me, running a 1988 Voyager, if there was such a document for that boat. Some of the electricals on my boat continue to severely baffle me (although some of that may be due to modifications since built).

Is there? Does anyone know of one? The Carver site seems to only start producing them from the mid 90's.

View the latest post Organizing Cabinets in Mariner 350?

I'll admit it - I'm not good at organization. To that end, I'm wondering if anyone on the board has organized the kitchen cabinets in the Carver Mariner 350. I'm having a really hard time envisioning how to organize the thing!

The cabinets over the galley are tall and I'm...well....not. I need something that either pulls out or I can life out to see the goodies.

Anyone?

View the latest post Vacu Flush thought

First of all, I DO love my Vacuflush unit, even though I had some challenges this year, but they were overcome. The small amount of water used on each flush and the evacuation of the bowl is superior. However, while resolving my leak, I saw a “Silent motor kit” available to get rid of the “KaChunk, KaChunk, KaChunk” noise. I guess I have to say why would you want to get rid of it? Doesn’t that pumping sound tell you if there is a problem hearing the pump run on and on?
