View the latest post Port engine won't start unless generator is running

Just bought a 2003 366, with 550 hours on the engines, overall well-maintained. When the boat has shore power both engines fire right up. However, when out on the lake, if you turn the engines off to relax for a while, the port engine won't start unless you turn on the generator. Previous owner has replaced the alternator and battery within the past year.

Ideas?

View the latest post Me - Again

Looks like I might need to change or add to my name. We sold our Carver 3365 Mariner, Grafunkus, last fall. Didn't think it would so hard to find a replacement boat but WOW, what a journey this year was. After looking at a few different boats, we contacted someone from a year ago to see if he might be interested in selling his 1997 Chris Craft Continental. What a stylish boat!! Yes he was as long as he was able to get a replacement boat of his dreams. Well, two failed tries - wouldn't want his journey!! It was a NO!! Back to our search. Answered an ad on Kijiji within 4 hours of it being posted. Doing a sea trial on a 1985 Carver 3607 Aft Cabin on Saturday!! Don't expect any problems. We will leave it docked where it currently lives and winter in the local spot. Will move it to our preferred location in Kenora ON in the spring. On that note, we had a very expensive parking spot we only used a couple of times this season!!!! Anyhoooo the new(ish) boat has the sleeping configuration we were looking for. Lots of upgrades, hardwood in the salon, bow & stern thrusters, all 200 ft of rode is chain, new fridge, convection toaster oven etc. Looking forward to an ensuite - I don't even have one at home!!! Possession date on Sept 1, we start some holidays on Sept 5. Looking forward to getting down and dirty to learn the new boat named John Bouy. I hope i didn't just jinx this!! :-D :-D

I’m a new owner of a 350 Mariner, question I have is: on each side of the helm station is a red light (when lit) what are these signaling? Thanks

View the latest post Toilet hinge

Hey fellow Carver lovers! Looking to see if anyone ever replaced the toilet hinges on their SeaLand toilet. Mine, during our vacation, decided to show it’s age. Any leads would be great!

View the latest post Why don't more cruising boats have cabin doors?

I've been searching for a cabin cruiser with at least 2 berths/bedrooms that have their own doors so when I have guests we can have some privacy and can go to the bathroom at night without feeling embarrassed. Why don't more boats have doors? Is it a safety thing? Can you add doors and would it be legal?

View the latest post 03 396 Shore Power Question

Ok, I have not messed with the shore power setup since I bought my boat but am now looking at it and finding myself asking "WHY?" and "I HAVE to be able to simplify this somehow"

Current Setup from the dock to the boat:

(Dock side) Single 50A outlet -->
(Y Adapter) 50A to (2) 30A lines -->
(Each line then has a Line Adapter at the end) 30A to 50A --> Into boat

Seems like all 396's of my year have twin 50A lines into the boat.

I see so many bigger boats simply have a single 50A line come out and plug in and it seems so elegant... then there is me, Lugging out 80 adapters, piles of shore power lines, wires hanging everywhere.

Is there something I'm missing? is there a simpler way? What other 396'ers do out there? Please help me simplify!

View the latest post Attachment(s) Need obsolete parts

I need to find the vent covers for intake/exhaust on the side of my 1991 430 CPMY. They measure OD 17 1/4“ x 2 1/2” The inside (hole size) is 16” x 1 7/8”. There are 8 in total covering both sides. Any ideas where I might start looking. I’m in Canada.

View the latest post 1990 3608 aft cabin freshwater pump location

My water pressure seems low. The stream of water will start off ok but then get weak. Doesn’t change when hooked up to dock water. Trying to locate where the pump is so I can investigate. Thanks

This is kinda cool. Ship submerges to carry Super Yachts similar to going through a lock. https://robbreport.com/motors/marine/ya ... t-2945874/

View the latest post Attachment(s) Transmission lever sheared off! Need replacement

Greetings! When warming up my 1978 Mariner 3396 my starboard transmission lever sheared right off (see attached photo). I'm looking for a replacement (prefer to replace with original part that matches port lever). Not sure if it can be welded (two types of metal visible in photo), and if it could be, if it would actually hold given where the break is located. Greatly appreciate any leads on where to find a replacement or tips from anyone who this has happened to! Our mechanic says he's never seen anything like it. In the meantime, thankfully a vice grip is working...

Thanks!
78Mariner
