View the latest post Water in starboard rear engine bilge

Hadn't been to the boat in a week was working on another project with my port engine overheating. Did notice a lot of water in the starboard bilge closer to the bow if that makes sense. I have a 350 Mariner and there are 2 separate bilges on either side and 2 in the middle. This weekend I'm going to use a pump to get all the water out and see if there is a leak. It wasn't there a week ago and we have had a ton of rain...wondering if that might be it? All the other bilge areas are fine except for the bilge on starboard side closer to the bow right below the cockpit. Could rain accumulate in that one area if it rained heavy for a few days??? What should I check for after I get all the water removed?

Thanks!!!

Rick

View the latest post Opinions Needed

Hello!

I realize this is a Carver forum, so the results of this thread are probably going to be biased ;).

My wife and I have been looking at boats for about a year now. We are planning on moving to the Keys in the near future and becoming liveaboards. We plan mostly to bounce around the Keys on the boat, with some trips to the Western Caribbean.

We have narrowed our search to these two boats:

http://www.yachtworld.com/boats/1999/Carver-406-Aft-Cabin-Motor-Yacht-2506253/Prospect-Louisville/KY/United-States#.WnRZB-jwY2w

http://www.yachtworld.com/boats/1997/Sea-Ray-400-Sedan-Bridge-3084067/Pompano-Beach/FL/United-States#.WnRZG-jwY2x

The Carver makes more sense from a practical standpoint. It is 90 miles away and can be docked at lower cost while we transition. The Sea Ray makes more sense emotionally, but the cost of Florida storage is going to be ridiculous while we sort things out. Shipping it up here is another option, but the is the cost worth choosing it over the Carver?

They are both beautiful boats, with an edge aesthetically and electronically to the SeaRay. I really like the fact that the engines only have 200 hours on them as well (although for 20 year old boats what is the real difference between 200 and 760...25 hours a year?)

I would welcome all opinions. I don't think we can go wrong with either...but would really appreciate someone telling me that we will ;)

Thanks in Advance,

Ken

View the latest post 5.7 litre Mercruiser engine - underpowered

Hello Carver owners. I am the new owner of a 1989 Carver Montego 2557 Express Cruiser. Just purchased in November 2017 in south west Ontario. This boat is equipped with a 5.7 litre - 260 hp - Mercruiser hooked to a Alpha 1 - Gen 2 outdrive. The motor has 496 hours and swings a 3 blade prop. People have been telling me that the 5.7 litre is under powered for this boat. Others tell me to swing a 4 blade prop with a one inch less diametre than the 3 blade to make the boat perform better. I would like some opinions from those who own this same Carver model with and without this power plant. I have not had this boat in the water so have not been able to test it. Please do not say to me - what - you bought a boat and you didn't test it? Yes that is correct but I am not a newbie to boating and the price was right. Thanks.

View the latest post 1995 Carver 390 aft cabin to cockpit lock replacement

Hi all, I'm looking to either repair, or most likely, to replace the lock on the sliding aft cabin to cocpit door. Lock tumbler moves in and out, and then captures the key, making it very hard to remove; obviously internal breakage. Anyone know where to get a replacement or have had a successful repair? Thanks! Jim

View the latest post Attachment(s) Winter cover_ for sale_ fits Carver 390

Hi,

I have fo sale professionally custom made (by Lohmann Sails & Covers www.boatcovers.ca ) winter cover for 1994 Carver 390 (now gone) consisting of three sections, one in each of the bags featured on the photographs. Attached is also the photo of the boat for which this cover is made for. The cover is in very good condition with no rips or tears. Unfortunately I do not have good photo of the boat with the cover on, never thought I'd need one....

This would be ideal for a boat in Pacific North West to protect it from continuous rain, mould and humidity that we experience here. Once put on in the fall will protect the boat from rain and reduce the number of days you will have to spend cleaning that green slimy stuff, removing black streaks and will obviously prolong the life of the wax you put-on the boat during summer. It will help if you have window or deck leaks and in general protect the boat from so much rain and occasional snow that we get here in PNW.

New cover cost from Lehmann is CAD $5200 (plus 12% sales tax) with weeks and sometimes months of waiting. I ask for $1000 (Canadian) $800 US plus shipping (anywhere in US and Canada) if not local pickup or delivery. It takes 2-3 hours to fit and 1-2 hours to remove and fold back in the bag. Putting it on can be done even if it is raining. Taking it off, has to be done on a dry day to prevent mould while it sits in the bag over the summer months.

I can help a potential buyer to fit it for the first time if the boat is in Vancouver or nearby. The general fitting instructions are on Lohmann website with videos.

Just saying Hi to all.
I have recently bought a Carver 3207 Aft Cabin with twin MerCruiser 5.7 l gas engine.
The boat is a 1988 aft cabin model with double berth.
She was bought used here in Quebec, Canada, and has had very little use over the years. Engine hrs are 630.
She is currently stored in a heated warehouse in St-Ours, Quebec near the Richelieu river.
Eventually we would like to cruise the great loop in her.
