View the latest post loud unidentified noise

Hi All,
My 406 with Volvo Penta engines, has suddenly started making terribly loud noises when in gear. It may be in both sides, but is minimal on the port. Increases of course at higher RPMs. The sound has two components: a grinding abrasive sound and a high pitched squeal. Can be heard on the bridge, but in the aft stateroom is incredible. So, took up the floorplate over the rear strut/cutlass bearing and sure enough BAM! mystery solved. Not so fast! Pulled the boat and there is absolutely NO PLAY in that bearing and it looks perfect. Same with the other side. Yard mechanics are totally puzzled.

Any thoughts?

Hello all, I have read my transmission manual and I can use only one engine, but I can not see the advantages of using only one engine while running. Will I really save on gas ? What would be the advantages? Anyone done it ?

Merci

Does anyone have a source for replacement fuel cap O-rings? All I can find is the complete cap. I'd like to replace them as a maintenance item.

View the latest post Attachment(s) 450 Voyager TV

I will try this again. I would like to mount a flat screen tv on my master stateroom wall. I have seen pictures of Voyagers that have them. Please, if you have a 450 voyager and have mounted a tv, get back to me. At least give me the name of someone who has done the installation. Thanks in advance.

View the latest post 3207 mercruiser - overheating???

Hello,
I'm new to this forum and have run into an issue with my boat..

2 weeks ago I was out running on plane and noticed that my temp gauge read 240...
Immediately turned the engine off and returned to port on one engine...
Figured the Impeller, opened it up but it was perfect....thermostat looked good too
Changed both the impeller, thermostat and the alarm sender (looked in rough shape).

Turned the engine back on and the gauge immediately when to the 200 mark - I know the engine could not be that temperature after 30 seconds.

Put my port and starboard engines on and compared surface temperature readings....they are within a couple degrees difference. With the exception of the bit hose returning from the engine to the thermostat housing 12 deg higher.

On a side note, there is a difference of water exhaust between the two engine - about 20% less on the troubled engine.

Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

Thanks

View the latest post Attachment(s) Fuel Fill Hose Cracking

Had my gasoline fill hoses replaced last week due to some noted cracking where they attach to the top of the fuel tanks. Once they got the hoses out, there were long cracks, hose had expanded, and was very stiff. 13 years was too long for these hoses and I believe the manual recommends an inspection and replacement schedule much shorter than that.

This was out of a recently acquired 2004 Carver 396MY and the hose had a 2003 manufacture date, see attached pics.

View the latest post Waste Discharge On 2002 Carver 346

I cannot locate the 3 way valve for the forward waste system. I have located the forward waste pump switch under the steps going down to the galley. I cannot locate either the 3 way valve or the waste pump switch for the aft waste system. I do have breakers for both pumps in the DC panel. Can anyone tell me where to find the aft pump switch and both 3 way valves. Thanks :banghead:

View the latest post Attachment(s) CO monitor power issue on carver 356

bud37 wrote:Qr Bbpost If those CO monitors are 5 years or older they are no longer useable and need to be replaced.Seems to me that on my boat the monitors are wired directly to the batteries( one or the other ) much like the bilge pumps.Check on your safety breaker panel beside the breakers for the bilge pumps, maybe there.Might I suggest a new thread about this, you have 7 pages and hard to check back thru, different subjects......

Thanks Bud, agreed 7 pages was too long to go through, so I am creating a new subject. The CO monitors are brand new, got them last September or October with 5 year life span on them from last year. Under bottom steps there is a co detector breaker location, but I do not think there is any breaker. Looks like a place holder. it looks like a button, but its not. So I think you are right, direct connection to battery. I'll check, not sure why it just went off out of the blue. Unless wire came loose maybe.
