We replaced packing sit was going good but now getting to much water, how much water should trickle from the shafts? The screws seem to come loose should we use nylon screws? 1982 Carver with two 220 Crusaders Thank you

View the latest post Dumb question on furniture

Regarding true aft cabin cruisers, how does the mfg get furniture into a finished boat? And afterwards, how does the owner replace furniture?
I used to have a Carver 3807 and when we bought it, we didn't like the chairs that came in the salon and wanted to replace them. Couldn't figure out how to get them off the boat...ended up breaking them up to get them out. If we had taken the twin doors off their hinges, we would have had a couple extra inches...would that have been enough to get them thru the door opening?

View the latest post Tying off to shore when anchoring - yea or nay ?

My wife and I are new to boating ( we have a 33 foot 3396 Mariner ) , and are looking for advice about whether or not to tie off to shore when anchoring overnight. We have been getting various responses from other boaters around the marina so I thought I would see what the prevailing opinion was here. We have overnighted a couple of times and I am amazed by the amount of swing that the boat has. Opinions in the Marina range from Never tie off to Always tie off , I admit to being a little concerned about being close enough to shore to tie off ( I am assuming you want to be within 75 feet or so ). Anyway looking for opinions and options.

Thanks in advance

View the latest post New owner 1985 2667 Santa Cruz

I am about to buy a '85 Santa Cruz with a cracked block 350 Chevy for $1500. I called the guy wanting the trailer it was on but have fallen in love with the boat as well. I pick it up tomorrow. Anything out of the ordinary about this boat to check other than the obvious old boat stuff like core rot , ect?
It will be a fun little winter project. I am a sucker for a boat project. :banghead:
I have read about the tipsy nature of this boat but I assume it would be fine inland like I will use it.

Is my refrigerator freezer supposed to be working while I'm travelling?
Stuff was thawing out, we were under way for 8 hours
We have a giant inverter system, other lights, heads, etc are working while under way
The inverter system is very complicated, not sure how it works
thanks

View the latest post where is my fuel shut off valve?

Hello all:
I own a Carver C34, 2014. I carry spare fuel filters heading over to the Bahamas for a week. I hope I don't need them. I know how to replace them but I can't find my gas shut off valve? My C34 has the 5.7 Mercruisers, gas engines. Anyone would care to instruct me on where are they located? I know from the owner manual they are suposed to be on the top of the tank, but I don't see them anywhere? what exactly does it look like and where the heck are they?
thank you all anticipated

View the latest post More Holding Power - new anchor

I have a carver mariner 350 with a 22is pound delta (plow) anchor. To me I think it is a little under sized for my 20,000 pound boat. Where we anchor is mostly silt and sand, but the lake has rocky areas. I'm looking at these anchors for a main anchor on my bow- connected to my all chain rode. They are all galvanized. (note prices are all West Marine for comparison only) I'm leaning towards the Rocna Valcan. Thoughts?

Also note: I often will raft up with other boats and will have more then just by boat hanging on this anchor.

1. West Marine branded 35# scoop anchor. $ 279.99
My thoughts - cheep, but not much surface area compared to others 22 (w) x 30 5/16 (l)
https://www.westmarine.com/buy/west-mar ... cordNum=27

*2. Rocna Vulcan 44# scoop anchor. (very similar to spade anchor) $439.99
My thoughts - like the spade but better looking, won't clog, more surface area then Rocna loop anchor- size: 17 3/8 (w) x 31 13/16 (l)

https://www.westmarine.com/buy/rocna--g ... cordNum=10

3. Rocna (one with a bar loop) 44# Scoop anchor. $409.99
My thoughts - fast setting, but loop could get clogged with stuff - 17 1/8 (w) x 14 7/8 x 34 1/8 (l)

https://www.westmarine.com/buy/rocna--g ... ecordNum=7

4. Spade S100 44# anchor $529.99
My thoughts - expensive, less surface area 14 (w) x 34 (l)
