View the latest post Attachment(s) Generator Anode Change

I did my first generator service on my 1 year old to me 1998, 405 AC. The genny is a Kohler 10kw, model 10e gas burner. It’s always operated great. Sometimes it takes three tries to start it, but always starts. I figured probably needed plugs as to why it doesn’t start right away?

I ordered a maintenance kit from EBay and it came with:

Champion plugs
Fuel filter
Oil filter
Water pump belt
Slow burn fuses
Impeller (but was wrong impeller, I could have an after market pump housing??)
Anode

I changed oil, oil filter, fuel filter, belt, plugs, & anode. Will have to wait until I get correct impeller then will change it.

Not sure what the deal was on the anode? The old anode brass fitting looked like it had been in and out multiple times? Maybe previous owner used same brass fitting but just put in new anode?? None the less here’s some pictures. Based on this I highly recommend checking the anode!!

The pics are rotated 90* clockwise. I’ve not figured out how to fix that yet!!

View the latest post Kohler gas genny model 10e oil specs

I’ve googled the I-net and searched this site and can’t the answer. I’m sure you guys can help!

I don’t have any manuals for my generator (Kohler model 10e). I’m looking for the recommended oil as it’s time to change oil, fuel, impeller, etc etc. I ordered a tuneup kit from eBay that’s got plugs, impeller, anode, belt, and filters. But I can’t find any info on oil.

What’s the recommended oil for my gas generator?

View the latest post Attachment(s) New 406 owner

Happy to find this forum and donate to it. Just bought my first boat (been boating my entire life with family 4 sailboats and a trawler) a 2000 Carver 406 MY with 1025 hours on twin 370HP Diamond Cummins. Boat just got stored in Grosse Pointe but will be boating the Great Lakes again starting next spring from my home port of South Haven. Looking forward to the fun and all the learning I have to do.

View the latest post Attachment(s) Washer/Dryer Removal Mystery

I have a Malber Washer/Dryer compo that has ceased to function. Parts are almost impossible to find. Rather than throw money at a 17 year appliance, I am going to replace it. I have found a GE model that will fit in the same space.

The problem is that I cannot figure out how to get the old unit out. I could really use some help here. Anyone with a 46 Carver motor yacht solved this problem?

View the latest post Attachment(s) 3607 Stateroom Fireplace

Wanted to add a heater, but this heater is also an electric fireplace ( well maybe just a “place.”) 13 inches high, fits under the shelf perfect. Wayfair,$200! Heat works great as well. My marina neighbors are jealous!

View the latest post Attachment(s) Red Pilot Light above Power cord reel

There’s a Red 1/2” diameter “Pilot” light above the power cord reel compartment. See picture. It’s been driving me nuts trying to figure out what a previous owner had done. Well today I chased wires and came to a conclusion.

First of all the light is burned out. There was four other lights just like it in a box in a closet so I got them out. 3 of them didn’t work either; however, one did. So I connected it and turned on the toggle switch inside the power cord reel compartment. The light came ON.

I removed the mattress in the master stateroom and removed the panel at the head of the bed to gain access to the area of water heater and power cord reel motor. The toggle switch wires were wired to the power cord reel controller Batt + and -.

The only conclusion I can come up with is a previous owner wired the switch and light so when the switch is ON, it means the Battery switch under the salon steps is either position 1, 2 or both. Maybe it was just a quick way to tell from the dock that the 12v battery system is on? Unfortunately there wasn’t a fuse inline with either the switch or light, meaning the only protection was from the 12v panel circuit breaker for the cable reel.

Another mystery solved!

I’ve not figured out how or what to do about it but I’m not crazy about the way it’s wired.

If you guys know of a purpose for this light or a modification to add using what s there please advise! Else I’ll probably remove the wires and plug the hole.
