- Forum: General Repairs & Maintenance
On our way to Pleasant Harbor, Wa I decided to take some temps while under way as I noticed steam about 15 to 20 feet behind exhaust. Not really abnormal for my boat but I wanted to see what was going on.
Here is what I found:
Starboard Engine at neck\temp sensor was 168 while running at 18rpm. While running at 36rpm, it read 177. The thermostat on the heat Exchanger is set to 170. The thermostat was 165 at 18rpm and 189 at 36rpm.
The exhaust riser on left was 104 and the right was 95. Not sure why so much stream.
On Port at neck\temp sensor was 160 while running at 18rpm. While running at 36rpm, it read 189. The thermostat on the heat Exchanger is set to 170. The thermostat was 158 at 18rpm and 180 at 36rpm.
The exhaust riser on left was 107 and the right was 101. Again, not sure why so much stream.
The temp gauges were not so accurate at 18rpm, but read accurately while at 36rpm.
I did temp checks on other hoses and found there was about 10degree diff between them all at 18rpm. Mainly in the range from 141 to the highest at 157. At 36rpm, add 10 degrees for those hoses.
The engines are 454xli with +1400hrs.
Anyway, something to think about.

I need to replace some fittings in the red and blue pex lines going to my sinks. Lots of leaks on a boat that sat for a few years. Regular 1/2 in fittings seem too big (shark bite and such). Any suggestions?

Hello All . My daughter is the proud owner of a 1983 aft 3207..twins..I am helping her get things up to speed. The fresh water pump has failed and I am thinking of replacing it with a Shur Flo 4008 -101 - E65. The failed one is a Shur Flo 2.8 gal 4 amp. Should I expect any problems..? We also have a Battery charging issue. There are 4 24ms class batteries . 2 are labelled as start. One will charge off the on board charger but drains quickly to .3 volts dc. Obviously defective. When running the engines and measuring battery voltage with a Fluke voltmeter, a max of 13 V.D.C is measured. Shouldn't 14v dc be available for alternator output or is a high charge current which I can't measure dragging the voltage down?. I am hoping that once the defective battery is replaced the alternator voltage will increase to 14...ANY input is appreciated,
Thanks,
RHJ

Thanks for the input.

- Posted by: ChiefDaveD » June 4th, 2017, 5:05 pm
- Forum: Carver Yachts Forum - Model Discussion
Does anyone know how to remove the cushion pad from the top of the rear cockpit door that leads to the swim platform? I cannot figure it out. Took the door off the hinges and looked up through the cavity and there are no screws or anchors visible. We got all the other 4 off with no problems but cannot get the one on the door off. Any advise or recommendations would be welcome.

Hey everyone, pretty new to the forum but have really valued the discussion as I found my new to me boat. Late last year I purchased a 1995 355 Aft. Survey went extremely well including seatrial. The boat was located in Scituate MA and we decided to move it Westbrook CT. It is approximately a 135nm trip. Anyways after months of working on her updating etc yesterday was the day. The tanks were about half full so before leaving Scituate Harbor filled up with fresh fuel. Got underway about 7;30 am. I took it really easy on the engines for the first 30 miles or so. Kept it at 10kn to get things moving. Then had about a 45min break as we went through the Cape Cod canal. Hit a little bit of weather 3-4s but she was was running and handeling really well. We cruised for about 6 hours at 16kn engines at about 3200. Decided to pull onto Point Judith to top off fuel as a percaustion. That took about 45 mins so engines had another opportunity to rest a bit as well. We cruised about another 2 hours and then of pf a sudden I noticed the engines were not syncing. My Starboard engine was losing power. I tried to throttle up but got a warning sound. Killed the engine right away and went down to investigate. Started it back up and I could could hear a really bad knocking sound. Almost like a rod knock. I never lost oil pressure and temps stayed consistent all day long. I have power at idle but can hear the knock faintly. Decided to shut down and hump back on one. About an hour from my home port and I lost that one too
. Just all of a sudden completely died. It would turn over but not start which led me to believe it was a fuel issue. I went below and changed out the fuel filter....nothing. Then realized when I was turning the key to the on position I got no buzzing sound. Previous owner had warned me of this. I changed out the fuel injector relay. Went up the helm and it fired up! Perfect.....well not really. Put it in gear and it died and would not star again. Long story short thank God for unlimited TowBoat US. They got me into my home port safely. So now here I am no idea where to start. Really value everyone's advice and would appreciate any thoughts. The boat has Crusader 454 XLIs. Engines have under 500hrs on them. Also something weird that happened is the blower in the engine room stopped working?!?! Happened when I lost the 2nd engine on the port side. Have since tried to get it on again however nothing. All toggles at them helm are working and lighting up. I switch that one to the on position and nothing. Doesn't even light. Thanks for taking a read about my afternoon from hell. Any thoughts are appreciated.

- Forum: Diesel Engines/Transmissions
Is there anyone out there who knows how the baffles are constructed in the 227 gal. tank? We are having an issue with the starboard tank, and the fuel polisher (as well as the other 2 a year ago) say they can only reach one area - this side of the baffles. My captain tried to keep things stirred up by using an air compressor, to no avail. We went 4.5 miles and then the starboard engine stopped. Mind you the port tank is fine - and we always add diesel fuel to both tanks when we fuel up. The starboard tank also feeds the generator which of course has from time to time has stopped as well, using the air compressor to unblock the hose works, along with changing filters. So we have something in the tank but we can't figure out how to access it because of the baffles.....

I'm looking at a 1988 3607 with twin crusader engines. Strictly coastal cruising. Anything problems in particular I need to look for with this model? I am getting a survey as well.
Thanks

- Forum: General Boating Discussion
The family is coming up for a boat ride this weekend and I was wondering what the capacity of persons of my boat is. It's a 27' Carver Montego. I haven't been up to the boat the last two weekends to check, but shouldn't there be a plate on the boat telling me this information? I couldn't find anything in the printed out owners manual I got off Carver's website.
Thanks,
Jack
