replacing my forward bilge hose, due to cracking at the pump. the hose goes through stringers under the forward head.It is being stubborn, thinking of using a smaller hose and feeding it through the existing hose, and installing couplers at the end to fit the pump and through hull? has any one solved this issue?

- Forum: Gas Engines/Transmissions
Hello all,
I'm having an issue with my port engine. I'm running out of options tracking down the root cause of the high temp.
While at idle and up to about 2000ish rpm's the engine will run and stay cool. but start opening up the throttles headed up to cruising speed, as the rpm's increase so does the temp. It gets to about 190, at that point I pull back the gas back to the 2k range and the gauge comes back down to normal levels.
So here is what I have done thus far to correct the issue and I'm running out of idea's
FWC CR270's
Replaced ALL engine hoses with shields 250 series. When I say all, I mean every single hose has been replaced, including the 3" and 4" exhaust and the 3x3x4 tee.
Replaced the risers and elbow up to the manifold, (did not replace manifolds)
Inspected and replaced the raw water impeller. The housing and cam plate look good.
Inspected and replaced the thermostat and housing. Housing looked good, had restriction plate installed
Inspected the oil cooler, all tubes are clear.
Remove the heat exchange and had it cooked, cleaned and pressure tested (all good)
Here are the things we have not looked at or replaced
the engine water pump
the manifolds
How likely is the engine circ pump to go bad? Also manifolds? they only see antifreeze, so they should be good? any suggestions on what to look at next would be greatly appreciated.
I also just completed a port transmission swap, I blew forward gear during a WOT sea trail. Maybe the trans going out was sending to hot of fluid to the trans cooler? causing a loss of cooling to the heat exchanger ? idk, I'm reaching for ideas... but the engine heat issue was there at the end of last season when the trans was running fine.
Thanks,
J

Hello,
I just purchased my first boat, a 1989 Carver 27' Montego. The guy I bought it from is a real good guy, and can drive it well, but just wasn't much of an instructor so I'm gonna have to get some lessons. Any suggestions for the South Haven, MI area?
Thanks,
Jack

I have a problem putting fuel in my left main tank. It gushes out after a few gallons added. I have tried applying air pressure to tank fill with compressor to clear vent of bugs etc but it will not clear. The vent line is not accesable from below. You can see it go from top of tank outboard and down. Any ideas how I could remedy this situation without a major repair bill of pulling floor up and tank out?

We are buying a 1986 Carver Mariner 32'. We'll be bringing her from St Petersburg (technically Gulfport) FL to the Anclote River in Tarpon Springs FL soon. The southern end of the route is unfamiliar to us, and we don't know whether to take the channel up towards Johns Pass or go down, around and out to open water and head north. Any comments are welcome.
Hmmmm, maybe I should post this in another topic?

I measured the number of turns the steering wheel turns and position the wheel at midpoint. The rudder position gauge reads off to the starboard at 2 o'clock. The autopilot's rudder position is just off 12 o'clock, almost perfect to the steering wheel position. Can someone tell me how to calibrate the gauge?

I am already planning how to spend some of my 2018 boating budget. I spoke with the mechanics at the new marina I am located at this year. I am pretty much certain that next year I will convert both my engines to electronic ignition and get rid of the points and condenser. They quoted me $1200 for both engines.
Got plenty of time to save up so I will run one more season on the old system then convert.

I got a letter in the mail telling me my documentation was due for renewal and gave me the website address to go online and renew.
The letter looked like it came from the CG and the website looked like it was CG.
I was wrong...it was a legitimate documentation service that charges $75 to renew on my behalf...something I could do on my own for $26.
Anyway, beware. If you get this letter, only go to the CG web site to renew and save yourself $50.

Hello all, I bought à new windlass to be install on my Carver 325,1995, it will be install by a marina. I received the estimate, but I do not understand what they want to do, especially to move the new windlass to the rear for more drop for the anchor line?
Could you provide more info on this, I will contact the marina for more info but I wanted your opinion.
Merci

View the latest post Spring Launch - AutoPilot and Navigation/Anchor lights Dont Work
- Posted by: RReardon » May 11th, 2017, 9:58 pm
- Forum: Electronics & Navigation
Hi Fellow Carver Owners
I launched today and all systems go, except my autopilot wont power up and my Navi/Anchor lights wonts either.
I suspect it has something to do with the 12V DC Breaker Box on the bridge. That is where both of those units run through. I have checked the circuit breakers to assure they are one, and they are. So, just wondering if I am missing something obvious (Wouldn't be the first time). All the other circuits that run through that breaker box seem to be functioning (radar, deck lights, etc, etc).
They did some electrical work on the boat over the winter, adding a few AC plug receptacles, but I don't see how that would relate.
Any thoughts or checks would be appreciated.
Thanks
Rich
