View the latest post Securing new dining table

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has replaced their dining table on a Mariner? We recently purchased our Mariner 350 and first project was a wood table in place of the old composite maroon one. I noticed there was caulk under the old table bottom and wondering if this step was necessary when attaching the new table?..I'd appreciate any advice you may have. Thanks

View the latest post Attachment(s) Muskrats...fresh water boaters take note

Folks,

Every time - literally every time - before I start my engines, I go into my engine room for a pre-start inspection. I check oil, belts, hoses, connections and everything else.

last fall as I was getting ready to start my boat for the final trip over to the Travel Lift, I did exactly this. I then fired the mains up and checked all of the insturments to make sure all in order. I then went onto the dock to get ready to do line handling with my wife still on the boat. As we were waiting for the boat to warm up and chatting, I noticed 2 of the thru hulls for my bilge pumps spraying water out - like fire hydrants had been opened. My 506 has very large pumps and can move a lot of water, but this was the first time that I actually saw them in action.

I quickly boarded the boat and opend the hatch into the engine room and saw that my port wet exhaust elbow had grenaded right at the elbow. Water was quickly filling up the bilge - the stringers in the 506 stand about 14"tall and the water was quickly approaching this level on the port side.

I ran back up to the bridge and shut the engines down.

When I got back into the engine room, my pumps had doe a great job of evacuating all of the water. I can tell you that even if you think you have clean bilges, fill them up with water and pump them out - they aren't as clean as you think.

What I saw was that the elbow had been "scratched" through by an animal. It had swam through the water level exhaust, through the muffler and attemped to get into my E/R by clawing through the elbow. He did not get through, thankfully. I believe that the initial exhaust pressure combined with the cold water blew the weakend elbow right at the bend. See the picture attached.

I spoke with my marina and they advised me that they had lost a 55' Ocean Alexander the same way 3 years prior, sank right at the dock.

I have since replaced the elbow and have taken some precautions. I drilled small holes in my stainless exhaust ports and looped stainless mechanics wire through to create a "cage".

If you are a fresh water boater - be wary of this. Without pulling off your hoses, there is no way of inspecting them.

Just something to think about. I can't imagine this happening in the middle of Gbay with my engines running at 2200rpm. It would make for a very bad day.

View the latest post Alter window on arch

Hello, I have a 2005 Carver 39MY. On the bridge there is an arch that has a fixed window in it. I was looking for a window shop that could make this into a sliding window for additional ventilation and easy access on to the top of the sun deck for repairs or simply changing a light bulb. Has anybody done this project before? And if so what was involved?

Thanks
Bob

View the latest post 2005 Carver 44 MY

Hi all

Just closed on a 2005 Carver 44MY ES and just had a few questions, As you can imagine, i looked at many boats and once I narrowed my search I looked into everything Carver. I have some questions about the boat I purchased and others of the same year and what I thought was the same model. The first level you walk up to, has a bump out and a built in seat, some do not?? As you enter the cabin, my flat screen is hanging up above the AC and DC breaker panels on the left with the Stereo and DVD controls to its right. Other models have the TV on the right as you walk in with the DVD and Stereo controls above??? Our boat had three bilge pumps, forward, mid, and aft but the Carver Manuel says there are only two, forward and aft?? None of this of course are complainants or problems, just trying to figure out what specific model we have.Thank You

View the latest post Shore water

I own a 1999 530 voyager. The water system works fine using the water tanks and water pump, but when I turn the water pump off and connect shore water I get no water pressure in the boat at all. Replaced the pressure regulator right were the shore water connects, but still nothing. I can only get water with pump on and water in tanks. I think there must be a check valve somewhere in the plumbing system, but I have not been able to find it. Does anyone know a fix for this?
Thanks in advance for your help.

View the latest post Attachment(s) WiFi bridged extender

We all have experienced poor WiFi signals at the marina. My current marina advertised that they provided WiFi but after signing the dotted line, I learned that was not true and that the system had been down for a long time without repair. Any hopes for corrective action ended with the arrival of Hurricane Matthew last fall when the dock was heavily damaged and now is being studied by engineers for replacement this summer. Until that time, WiFi has evaded the range of my devices and forced much quiet time for myself and the Misses! Not to mention dashing hopes to update electronics for the 405 easily.

So I have gone on a search for that which I seek, and there is no better way than to get it for free. With that said, I have found numerous venders that provide WiFi extenders for singular devices or "Bridged" systems that pull open WiFi signals from over several miles away through an antenna with the ability to receive a high quality signal through your own secured router for use with multiple devices on board. Compatible app's for android or apple are also available at no cost with these systems to quickly search and link your network. These systems range from $150 to $400 well within striking range of the average boater trying to save some coin..... I am currently looking at the Coastal Marine WiFi Kit found below. If anybody knowledgeable in these systems that can provide informative incite or if anyone currently using this type of system is out there, I would like to here about your experiences.

View the latest post Attachment(s) Raymarine electronics

Hey ya'll,
Getting ready to tackle electronics on the 405 and looking for any input from the forum as I am not trying to re-invent the wheel so here goes......

My boat came equipped with 2 E-series Raymarine 120 MFD's, a Raystar 125 GPS receiver, Raydome scanner (radar) and sat-dome. The E-series MFD's work and have a navionics chart card, and talk to the scanner and GPS but that's about it. I installed a transducer and fairing block last year while on the hard but have not wired it to the Fishfinder DSM 300 yet. As a novice, I did have (2) DSM 300's until a broker involved in my purchase took advantage of my inexperience at the time and one left the boat following sea trials but that's another story! I have not opened the helm to have a look at the wiring as I wanted to prepare myself for what I may find, that time has come and will be addressed in the coming weeks. I do not know if their is a sea talk switch aboard at this time.

My question is, can the MFD's recognize the GPS and scanner without a sea talk switch? Secondly, does anyone know if and how to update the chart card that came with the MFD's?

:help:

View the latest post Attachment(s) Hurth transmission issue

I have a 2006 Hurth ZF 63 A - 2.7 transmission. I have a strong vibration that occurs when accelerating which continues at a lower rate when at speed. When I checked under the transmission, I noticed a few water drips underneath where the prop shaft leaves the boat.

I had to change out the heat exchanger on that transmission last fall. I don't think it has anything to do with the problem, but there was two small pools of transmission fluid on the bilge prior to taking it out the last time. When I brought it back in, there wasn't any on the floor.

Any ideas on what might be causing the vibration and the water leak?
