View the latest post Getting glue from shrink tape of window and boat

I have a 85 Mariner 36 and I have had it in the lot for 7 weeks getting the bottom painted. Because of some leaking around the windows we used some heat shrink tape. The tape took care of the leaking but after taking it off, I have the glue residue left and have found nothing that will get it off. It is on the boat and the aluminum window frame. Any suggestions to getting it off without hurting the windows or the gel coat. Thank you

View the latest post Attachment(s) Water in forward and mid bilge

There is water accumulated in both forward and mid bilge. Both areas have had bilge pumps activated. There is no water in other areas of the bilge. Only between the two hull beams. I am sorry to say I noticed the bilge ran this past fall, I bought the boat in October, shortly after that the boat went to heated storage. The survey did not disclose any hull defects or damage. I had to bail afew inches from the mid bilge that was left from the fall. This should have been addressed over the winter. Not sure what I was thinking???
I need help understanding how and where this water could come from? The forward bilge has the AC thru hull fitting. The mid bilge has three thru hulls. A airmar transducer and airmar speed/temp sensor. I installed a Raymarine/flir transducer this winter. (of course this isn't the problem)
Need help once again.

View the latest post Attention 350 Mariner Owners

Happy days. The shrink wrap came our boat today. All is well in our world.. well almost.

One of the Carver's less that inspirational features of our model is that padded skirt around the aft of the cockpit. Something that was replaced by a SS rail in later years. Cleaning it, drying it, protecting it for another season over and over again and it still looks like crap every time we get back to the boat. The admiral and I have had enough of it. I am thinking about removing it and replacing it with something.... maybe teak. The two portions on each side of the transom door look very easy to remove but the piece on the door is held on by a couple of screw but it also seems to be firmly attached, perhaps glued.
Has anyone ever take this off before? Any insight would be great.

Thanks
Fraser

View the latest post AC Coil Flushing

Has anyone flushed their AC coils? I am planning to attempt it this spring and would like to hear from others with experience. This is a freshwater boat but I'm told that minerals/sediment build in the coils impeding performance of the units. There are a number of options in terms of connectivity and chemicals used so any input would be appreciated.

View the latest post Raymarine es78 with Quantum Radome installed one winter.

Per the subject line I installed the es78 with Quantum Radome and thruhull downward flir sonar transducer. Connected the radar via WiFi, everything good. Will test Radome position once out in Lake. Sonar is good at 7 feet of water. Again will test on the water and graphs from gps charts. es78 comes with Navionics installed. Have used them for 15 years, they are great!

I have the Raytheon 650 auto pilot. I purchased the seatalk to seatalkng converter. Connected the m both to the converter and turned on the auto pilot function on the es78 and they are communicating. I was surprised. Will let you know how piloting to a waypoint goes.

This project is going well. :-P

View the latest post 310 Santego A/C installation

I have a 1994 310 Santego that I would like to have air conditioning installed in. I'm having a hard time finding a unit that will fit under the forward berth panel beneath the mattress. If anyone has this model boat and has a picture of where the A/C is mounted and what brand was used I would appreciate it. The pan that sits under the panel in the berth is only 13" high at the max. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

View the latest post Dual Helm Steering for 1978 Santa cruz

My wife and I have rescued a 1978 Carver Santa Cruz. Engine and drivetrain run well. Used it last year for a couple of months. We are now in the process of refreshing it.
PROBLEM: The Dual Helm steering was replaced with one cable to the fly bridge, wondering if anyone has any idea where to find old parts, or a good new replacement at a reasonable price.

Thanking you in advance.

View the latest post Toilet trouble

We have a 1984 32 aft. The other day, one of the toilets filled up with black water after flushing it. It was so full we had to scoop it out to keep it from overflowing. The gage for the toiletbsaid that it wasn't full- we had it pumped about a month ago.

I went ahead and had the marina come and pump it or anyway just to be sure. They said it was only about 1/4 full. Anyone experienced this before? Any ideas what the issue might beV we haven't flushed it since it was pumped. I am a little scared that I might have to scoop again.

Also- we are new to owning a cruiser. So any other maintenance tips would also be appreciated.

View the latest post Anchoring

I have a question for the group. I own a 2002 carver 42' sportsman. She is the same boat as a later model 420 Mariner with the large rear arch and I had owned one of them for a few years. Both boats have a weird tendency to swing when anchored. I can't tell if it's the tide , wind or a combination. I have tried long scope , short scope , and tied off at the bow cleat , nothing seams to stop it. I have 5/8" nylon anchor line and 30' of chain and generally anchor in inshore areas along Florida's East coast so problem with holding , but the swinging is annoying at best. Help or suggestions , please.
