View the latest post The Dash

We are new to the snow bird live on board community in the Punta Gorda area, our floating home is a 1987 Carver 42 Aft. Although we adopted The Dash in 2014, we are now getting to know its secrets up close. We are looking forward to any season advice we get, and assistance in solving (or where to go to) the many challenges that boating brings. So far we love to live on The Dash. 8-)

View the latest post Main and rudder packing replacement

I brought out a captain/shop owner to go over some things I want repaired. I do most of the work myself. But some stuff I'll leave to experts.

I have a leaking gland on my port rudder post. So of course I want to replace all the stuffing on the mains and rudders. I was quoted $850 to do it without a take out. Is that reasonable?

The next set of tasks is repair 7 blisters, r&r the boot stripe with a nice fancy black stripe, certify the halon system, and put a fresh coat on the bottom. $350 to repair blisters, $35 a foot for bottom fresh coat (not r&r. My bottom is good, just an extra coat while it's out), $240 for zinc, and... I think that's it...

Opinions on pricing? I don't think this is unreasonable. Just want to make sure I'm not getting taken for a ride!

Thanks

Steven

View the latest post Possible future owner?!

Hi everyone,
New to the forums doing some overly prolonged research for a future home away from home!
Right now our 16ft StarCraft is doing a decent job for our family of 4. However, there is obviously no way for us to spend the night anywhere on it, strictly a day use vessel. Which I realize isn't a bad thing, since we can trailer anywhere and go pretty shallow.
That being said, we live close to a great water system, and our family may be growing again in the near future, which means we will need a bigger vessel!
Throughout this research, I've already gotten 2-foot-itis, several times. Started with a 25' Cobalt, moved through different brands, and then I discovered the Carvers. For some reason, the fly bridge really draws me in. Read many, many reviews (including Mr. Pascoe's statements). Right now, I think I've settled on the 3007, however the 28 Voyager/Mariner still intrigues me due to its low rear deck height. The 3007 just has that extra cabin that would be perfect for the kids (current and future), and those awesome wrap around windows in the salon.

I have read in some places that the 3207 is the same as the 3007 set up wise, just a bit longer, which may improve ride and fuel burn? I think 30 is as big as I'm looking for right now, however if someone could make a good argument for the extra 2 feet, I'm all ears, or eyes.

Right now I'm aiming for an approximate purchase date of 2020 (yep, long ways away). Gives me enough time to finish research, save up the cash, and obtain the boss's permission.

Apologies for the long winded intro, looking forward to hearing everyone's opinions.

Cheers

Adam

View the latest post Carver 1/8" or 3/16" SS cable swage tool

I will be finishing up replacing all the SS/PVC life lines on the 405 Carver. Bought the swage toggle terminals, swage studs and PVC SS cable from BOSUN Supply.
I bought the swage tool and can make it available to anyone wanting to crimp 1/8" or 3/16" cable. Not sure if I will use it again? Only ask it get sent back after use. Dan

View the latest post all batteries dead

Well new here first post, here goes. Went up with to check on my boat today , (frst boat) and looks as though all my batteries are dead. Didn't have a lot of time to inspect weather they had froze and swelled although I'm assuming they have. The boat is a 1989 3207 aft cabin. It has twin 350 mercs looks like 2 start batteries and 4 220 Ah 6 volt house batteries. I left the selector off in the fall but obviously something has drained them. I'm looking to find out how these systems are supposed to be wired I can't really find any solid info. I've had the boat since August 2016. I was confused about the the 12 volt system from the start as there is a battery monitor that flashes battery voltage 4 battery's but the selector switch only has 2 and all . (Boat not equipped with a generator ) so basically I'm looking for wiring diagrams / info as well hope someone can give some advice on where to start here.

View the latest post Attachment(s) Carver 400 MY engine RPM issue

Engines: Cursader 454 XLi

This past weekend I took the family out into the bay and the stbd engine wouldnt go over 2500 RPM when I had the port at 3000. I backed the port down to 2500 and the stbd would follow it down regardless of throttle. When I throttle up the stbd it would drop 200 rpm.

No smoke or strange noises. Temps and oil pressure were normal.

I have a set of fuel filters I need to put on. And im planning on sending off the injectors for cleaning.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Steven

View the latest post Santego 3467 side window screen frame

Hello all. My 1989 santego 3467 has a banged up betond repair aluminum frame for the screen. Does anyone know the manufacturer or someone that might be able to steer my in the right direction. My guess is that it is a straight piece that gets cut on angle to fit the slotted window section. The screen frame slides on the main frame. Thanks very much, guy
