View the latest post Suggested maintenance if previous records incomplete

I have twin 1997 5.7 EFI Crusader engines with Velvet transmissions. Engines have enclosed cooling. There are 525 hours on them. Maintenance records are sketchy. Records at previous marina show storage and annual maintenance performed. No other details. Based on this unknown I am looking for advice on what to check/perform. My new to me marina did annual before heated storage with no previous records. They changed oil and Recor fuel water separator filters elements on engines and generator. They did not change transmission oil, check coolant chemistry, or change the secondary fuel filters at injectors?

I have purchased the Crusader engine service manual, parts manual, and training manual for diagnostic information. A CodeMate was also purchased.

I was spoiled with a great mechanic/tech for most of my 350 I/O boating years. He got the boat in October, looked at hours and made recommendations base on great knowledge and good record keeping. He is no longer available.

Let's say I feel like a dog who caught the chased car. Now what? Are there recommendations on picking your battles? What should be done dry, what should be done in the water. What is critical to do prior to season use? What can be done as a" get to " during season.

Any help would be great. Dan

View the latest post When and where to use 3M 4200 and 5200

Need help identifying which caulking to use on boat. I am hoping someone can give guidelines on when to use the different 3M products. Per 3M 5200 is for permanent bonding. ie bonding hull components together. To me that would be factory use. Anything I would be bonding would have to be disassembled and 4200 would be used. Do I have this right? I have been told 5200 can pull gelcoat from fiberglass base before releasing. Dan

View the latest post 1986 3297 Mariner Windows

My Windows leak. Has anyone ever replaced and upgraded thes RV type sliding windows with custom designed Windows. I've been told rebuilding/restoring the original Windows will not entirely solve the problem. They are all currently caulked sufficiently to stop the leaking but are non-functional in this state. Any direction/suggestions are appreciated. I fully expect to spend what it takes to resolve this problem.

View the latest post Attachment(s) CH 270 Engine rebuild project

I found a matching pair of counter rotating Crusader CH270s on Kijiji, and they were only 45 minutes from me.
I may be a bit off my rocker, but they are now in my garage waiting to be torn down.
The plan is to build them up nice and fresh, then swap these in place of the existing CH220s in the boat.
Fresh engines with a total bump of at least 100 HP. Wish me luck......
