View the latest post Non-Skid Replacement

I have a 1981 3007 aft cabin which we have been repairing for the last couple of years. It is coming along well and we are now at the stage of redoing the non skid on the aft deck and the fly bridge.

Last season, I scraped off all the existing non-skid and took every thing back to the gel coat. Then painted with an oil base, exterior grade industrial paint, recommended by a local repair guy. We then added non-slip crystals to the paint and rolled on a second coat.

Long story short, the resulting finish is not acceptable. The non-skid is not even, with the grit heavy in some areas and light in other areas. I tried to ensure even coverage, but I was not successful. On the plus side, the deck was definitely non-skid, but it looks bad.

I am looking at re-doing the work this spring, scrape it down again and then re-do the non-skid. I am looking for suggestions as to which product to use and any recommendations for application. I don't mind paying for the right product, as long as it is not gold plated... :-D

How about it, can you help?

Thanks

View the latest post Attachment(s) 2017 How Much Have You Spent On Your Boat Year To Date

I tracked my boating expenses last year. I had never tracked boating related expenses before. It was somewhat interesting to see what I spent on my hobby. Last year I was somewhat limited by my daughters wedding expenses. Hopefully this year I will have more boat bucks to spend on fuel and I can go to a few more places. Hope there are no further repairs but it is a 36 year old boat so we'll see.

I'm going to try it again this year. I am already half way to my last years total and I am about 60 days from launch. I should be getting my invoice for my summer dockage later this month. That will bump up the total a bit.

My spending has started early this year with my transmission repair and such. The marina where I wintered has billed me for all services performed since I paid my winter storage bill last October.

My expenses so far in 2017 are as follows:

Winterize Engine Humbug Marina----------------------------------------290.00
Oil & Filter Change Humbug Marina-------------------------------------164.00
Winterize A/C System Humbug Marina----------------------------------40.00
Shrinkwrap Humbug Marina ---------------------------------------------370.00
Misc Mechanical Parts Humbug Marina-----------------------------------69.30
Transmission Rebuild Humbug Marina----------------------------------2355.18

View the latest post transducers

I bought a 1985 carver 3227 convertible, some one stole the depth finder cut the transducer cable. Can anyone tell me what came with the boat that fits these transducers. I don't need anything but a depth finder on lake. Does not have lower helm but the boat has two thru hull transducers. I assume one is for the bridge and one for the lower if you had one. I would like to know what came on the boat so i can attempt to find the OEM unit or find a replacement with out having to put new transducers in. Thanks

Does anyone know a good resource for helping someone decipher a radar screen ( Furuno dome, model 1622, not the colour display ). I have tried running it in daylight ,auto, etc and it just seems like a guy would have to take a course or spend a huge amount of time before comprehension kicks in.. :help: ...comments anyone..... :beergood:

View the latest post New owner of 1988 Carver

I am so happy to find this Forum. My husband and I have gone from houseboating to a 1988, 27' Carver. She needs some work, (especially interior) but we love the design. It is so helpful to learn from other Carver owners. We look forward to any tips and ideas.

View the latest post 406 - overall length?

Looking at a 406, has the LOA listed as 46 ft. Seems a lot longer than the other 40Xs ... bad listing? Bigger boat?

Thanks in advance.

View the latest post CO detectors sounding alarm

I have a 405 and the boat is new to us...about four months. A few weeks ago one of our marina neighbors called to say that an alarm was going off in our boat. I drove over and found two of the CO detectors sounding an alarm loud and clear. When I opened the windows in the boat, the alarms eventually quit. I was about to put new detectors in anyway, finished that task today. I had to go to the marina tonight to pick up some clothes and the new detectors were sounding again.

Now, there is nothing running on the boat except the refrigerator and the battery charger. Tonight I have read on line that a CO detector can also detect hydrogen. If that's true, seems that the only thing it could be is the battery system. Perhaps the battery charger is over charging, or there is a bad battery. Funny thing is, it seems to only happen at night.

Has anybody else had this issue and what was the fix?

Thanks for any opinions.
