- Forum: General Repairs & Maintenance
hello all,
I need some help, new to the santego, drain plug was the home depot rubber stopper type that expanded when tightened screw. That scares the hell out of me, and there are two drain holes!!!!
the threaded insert is about one inch pipe thread but the bushing I bought won't thread.
any ideas of what I need to do before filing in with fiberglass and starting new
thanks
Guy

We are going to look at a 2005 and a 2006 located close to Fort Myers, FL that we want to use for a week-end boat and also to cruise the Caribbean Islands by island hopping. Is this a good boat for the purpose we want to use it for?

We are currently looking for a new boat and have found 2 466s for sale around Fort Myers, FL. I like the 466 because a friend in San Diego has one and I love that yacht.
Our boating background is a Starcraft 42 foot houseboat, a 42 foot Jeanneau Sun Odessey, a 45 foot Columbia motorsailor, and a 48 foot Chris Craft Roamer. We can not do the sailing anymore, we do not want a project boat.
We would like a boat that will do for week-ends and cruising the islands in the Caribbean. We are wondering if the 466 is capable of island hopping in the Caribbean. Any input will be welcome.

View the latest post Survey result - question Cummins 370 Turbo Charger
- Posted by: PJHoffnet » January 22nd, 2017, 3:01 pm
- Forum: Diesel Engines/Transmissions
Had a survey and sea trial on a 2000 Carver 404 with twin Cummins 370s.
Boat is in really good shape cosmetically, mechanically and electrically wte of a lot of blistering below the water line (time and $ consuming, but nothing that points to a disaster).
The only real problem noted in the survey that I'm concerned about is the turbo chargers on both engines. Both showed excessive rust and corrosion during the pre-underway survey, and during sea trials we couldn't bring the engines above 1800 RPM, so the turbo chargers never kicked in. The surveyor and I figured the turbos were frozen shut and passed that info on to the seller as a 'must fix' followed by a re-survey.
Seller's broker came back after having her engine guy look at it and said turbos are not frozen, but (and forgive the wording here, I didn't take the call and am working off the notes my wife took and her recollection of the conversation) that the pitch of the props are wrong and that's why the turbos never got a chance to kick in. They said they'd haul out, 'fix the pitch', (I can only assume they mean change props) and be ready for re-survey soon.
Ok, now we're not talking about a destroyer with veritable pitch propellers here, and I suppose it could be as simple as changing to a correctly pitched propeller for the engine.
Stbd and port turbos

Prop, probably doesn't help, but only one I had

Thoughts? - Thanks in advance

Hi. I'm am new to carvers. I just bought a 1989 Santiago 27. With twin 4cyl mercruisers. I broke the cardinal rule of shopping with my heart as I just fell in love with this boat. Love the layout just perfect for cruising the 600 square kilometres of the Gippsland lakes in Australia. I know it's probably to late to ask as I've already committed to the purchase but have I made a bad decision or is this as good a boat as it looks. Any information from this community on this model, good or bad. Would be much appreciated thanks in advance.

New member.
Thought I'd join the group as I receive a lot of PR from Carver and Marquis and the info might be relevant to you.
I post in a lot of boating and yacht forums because of the PR but I am a boat owner and sailing enthusiast.
Marquis news of a concept with Lexus:

I thought I saw this question asked before, but when I searched I couldn't find the thread.
Is there 356 basically just a 404 with out the cockpit?
Thanks in advance.

View the latest post Carver 405 MY swim platform storage box
- Posted by: dsolo » January 18th, 2017, 6:53 pm
- Forum: General Repairs & Maintenance
Spent the day crawling all over my new to me 405 Carver. I have it in heated storage so it was quit comfortable. I have read the factory installed storage box at the swim platform has unsealed fasteners and prone to moisture damage? The article indicated it may be necessary to remove rotten wood and replace with a epoxy filler. I could not see where or how the box is attached from the top side view. . Looking underneath the swim platform through the aft cabin access I see no appearance of water migration? Does anyone have experience with this? If so please direct me. Thanks Dan

View the latest post Attachment(s) Seawater impellar replacement Kohler
- Posted by: Tomion » January 15th, 2017, 11:23 pm
- Forum: Diesel Engines/Transmissions
I struggled for an hour trying to put new impellar in seawater pump today and then used a hose clamp to bend the blades around the hub enough to get started into pump housing. The keyway was still a bear to keep in place while inserting the impellar but some good light to line up impellar with key finally paid off. Have no idea how one would get impellar installed with pump on motor.
