View the latest post Attachment(s) Carver 3607 New engine

Hello new to this forum just thought I would share my experience this last summer of putting a new port side engine in my Carver 3607. We had only owned her for 2 weeks until water got into the cylinder from a rusted hole in the exhaust manifold and hydro locked the motor. I bought a long block from Promar engine and of course new exhaust manifolds, risers, and elbows for both engines. The process went very smooth, I built a custom hoist to get into the cabin and lift and roll the motor out of the hole. Also built a 3/4 plywood floor with bracing underneath to hold the wait of the big block and transmission. I bought a jegs racing engine cart to bolt the motor onto and wheeled it up the ramp to the aft deck then had it taken out from there. I attached some pictures to see how we made this happen in our slip:).

Hello, wondering if anyone has had any issues with leaking diesel fuel tanks.
And if so how did you handle the repair?
Thanks

View the latest post Stringers & Core - 355 Aft Cabin

Hi folks, a great forum you have here, lots of great info. Apologies if this is a duplicate, I did a search and couldn't find a thread with this info so hoping someone can help.

We're in the process of making an offer on a 355 Aft Cabin 1997 model year. Wondering what the status of wood core and stingers on this boat would be. I have been looking for a phone number to call carver but have been unsuccessful to date in finding one. An email to them has had no response.

Appreciate any help you can provide.

Thanks!!
Lee

View the latest post Spare parts List

Having searched and not finding a topic on spare parts to carry while cruising I will ask the question today. If I have missed the subject in existing postings please direct me to the post.

My boating experience has been limited to day boating or one or two night trips. My previous boat was a 24' Searay Sundancer. It would be hard pressed to call it a overnight-er. Today we own a 405 MY and plan on spending summers cruising the Great Lakes. Being new to the boat, this summer we plan short trips from our home port. (Onekama, Michigan) We hope to get familiar with the boat and work out any maintenance issues it may have. There are limited maintenance records. The boat is a 1997, I know this is critical when considering spare parts,

This brings me to ask the forum for recommendations on what spares to carry on board. I am not use to having a vessel with the systems the 405 has. Any recommendations with explanation would be helpful. I have a list of systems below:

Power (gas, twin Crusaders) I have fuel filters, impellars on board now
Electrical/Electronics
generator
Pressurized Fresh Water
Sanitation systems
Air Conditioning
Anchorage

Thanks in advance for your help, I appreciated the knowledge and sharing the forum provides.
Dan

View the latest post Fresh Water Tank clean up?

I want to use my ice maker, but also am leery of the condition of the fresh water tank. I took off the inspection plate and yep! there are cruddy deposits of sand and goo on parts of the bottom. No real way to get inside and scrape and clean up. I was thinking, what if I enlarged the inspection plate to say 10" wide by 20" long? Then when I was done cleaning up the inside, I made a gasket from rubber, and got a plate of aluminum 1" larger than the hole and screwed it down with a LOT of self tapping screws? I know I would need to drill the holes first so I could clean up the fines from the drill. Any further ideas on the conundrum?

View the latest post Solar System

I am in the process of adding a 30 watt solar system on my boat. I intend to connect the output from the system to the house batteries. Should I disconnect the battery charger from the batteries, or just turn the charger off? Does it make any difference?
Thanks for any advice

View the latest post Carver Mariner 350 Cockpit Seating

I'm looking at the carver mariner 350. I've noticed that mariners made after 2002 have a folding bench seat that covers the access hatch in the floor. Previous years have a folding table that covers the access hatch. I like the idea of more seating around the helm. If I end up with an older model, is there a way to replace the older folding table with the newer bench seat.

View the latest post 48" floresent bulbs on 1987 3807 Carver

I believe the 48" florescent bulb fixtures behind the valences on 1987 3807 Carver are 12 volts? What are the florescent bulbs? 12 volt DC or 120 volt AC and the fixture converts?

View the latest post Raw water intake

I have a new to me 1987 Santego 27ft. that has 2 intakes I don't know where they go. One is about in the middle of the boat and one is in the engine compartment that hooks to a pump but don't know for what.

Also I have one engine down right now and it has the power steering pump on it so I have zero steering. Wheel just spins. Reading this forum I see hynautic steering talked about but I don't know if thats what I have since I have a ps pump on the engine.
Any ideas would be great. I can't get to the boat until spring but need to this worked out in my head. And parts ordered.
