View the latest post Hull type?

I have always had full displacement hulls in the 3 commercial fish boats I owned prior to buying my 390. Not being totally sure of what type of hull this would be classified as, I thought I would ask this forum. Is the 390 Carver considered a planing hull or semi-displacement? I'm thinking that as it only draws 3'3" that it would be a planing hull. What say you?

View the latest post 2004 420 sport

I have a 2004 420 sport with Volvo TAMD diesels. 75% of the time when I start the Port engine my battery / alternator warning light / alarm goes off. The gauge is reading correct voltage and a mechanic put a meter on it an it showed correct voltage. I changed the alternator out as a precaution and same thing. Any clues or thoughts?

View the latest post Attachment(s) Hello to all

Greetings,
New owner of a 1973 Carver 2565 Santa Cruz that got abandoned almost 12 years ago. Just brought her home last week from Lake Erie to my farm in Carolina for the restoration project. The price was to good to pass for boat and trailer under $100.00. Oh yea, there is some work to be done. I've cleaned her up from the critters who moved in and stayed for years it appeared, some wood rot but minimal. Overall she wasn't in too bad of shape for being 43 years old. Have no idea what shape the engine is in other than it appeared to had been winterized in 2005. Will be looking for suggestions on various issues, like the engine, outdrive, etc.... Plan to try to find manuals are a must. Trailer was in excellent shape. I'm not in a rush, and have time to bring her back. I'm excited about getting started so wish me luck and feed me lots of good tips. Thanks - Fred

View the latest post Windlass

I just bought a 1992 Santiago 638 this past fall and I'm looking at a few things that need upgrading.

1. Windlass - I was thinking about the Maxwell RC8-8.
Anyone use the Maxwell? The boat is all wrapped and I don't have access to the bow to measure anything. Anyone know if this will fit the Santego? Thoughts on the quality. Right now the boat has a "Good" all rope windlass but it won't accommodate any chain so I was thinking I would swap them out.

2. Looking at adding Radar and the Simard GO9 XSE seems to offer a ton of value for an 3 in 1 solution. I would potentially fish off this boat a couple times per year. Most likely in Long Island Sound. In addition, I can see a few trips to Block Island. The boat has a GO7 right now.

Although this will be my third boat - it's my first yacht per se and just trying to get a few things out of the way for the winter.

Thanks

View the latest post Attachment(s) 370 Voyager

HI, I am looking at buy a 1998 370 Voyager. What can be told about this boat model? I haven't seen the boat yet and it is a good distance from me so the more info I get the better.
Looking at the picture's, I am really wondering how tall all the rooms are the boat? I am 6'1" and would like to make sure there is head room. Also what are the cruising speeds and fuel consumption?

Pros and Cons?

Thanks

View the latest post Boat shopping

Hi,

New to forum and shopping. Looking for a Loop boat to use for two of us on Loop trip over a few years and then downsize to a smaller boat.

Looked at a really nice 98 35.5 aft cabin boat that had some nice features and a few that I don't believe I could live with. The cabin was excellent, plenty roomy and comfortable. Galley was fine, a bit small but doable. Heads were outstanding, and the aft cabin state room was very nice.

The things that made is a no deal was very poor access to the engine and gen. And, I'm not sure the aft cabin would work well for me, with the sun deck over it. I think I'd rather have the "sun deck" area part of the aft cockpit and have more "outside" space.

Also, it showed a bit of age compared to the boats I've been looking at. Saw a 35 Regal the same day, just a few years newer that looked immaculate in comparison, but it has some issues, too.

Overall the Carver 35 I saw was a really nice boat, but wouldn't mine just a tad bigger. Mainly to allow for some water toys like kayaks/windsurfers and more cockpit area.

Also, would like the hoist to put toys on the back of the helm area, like a lot of trawlers have, but like the comforts of a cruiser.... not sure what's available.

What would be the next step up?

View the latest post New to forum, shopping

All,

Nice to be on this forum, and in the process of shopping for a boats.

First, I've recently been getting a TON of spam advertising. Are the ads along the right side of this forum appropriate (Ads IN this forum), of am I getting them from another source?

Live in St. Pete, FL looking for a Loop boat, will post details in another forum area.

View the latest post bow thruster in a 4207

I am thinking of installing a bow thruster on my 1991 4207. has anybody done this? It looks like I might have to cut a hole in the floor of my forward cabin to get to an area where the motor and tunnel go. Is this doable, or will it weaken the hull in any way? Any thoughts or insights would be greatly appreciated
