Just bought a 1985 28 Carver Mariner with twin 305 Crusaders. Boat has been well loved and we will continue to take care of her. Any advice or experience is welcome!

View the latest post Attachment(s) WOT 24-26mph @4000rpm

I have 1996 400 with the 454XLi. They run well, no known problems.

I wanted to bounce a couple things off of the list.

1) WOT is 4000 RPM and 24mph or 27mph depending on the current and winds. This seems a little slower than it should for 4k rpm. I dont cruse at that speed but if I take it out for an hour, and its smooth out I like to run it up for a few minutes. Also seems like its struggling to get on a plane. I want to say crusing @ 3400 I hang around 20mph maybe 18 into the wind

2) I have a closed engine cooling system with heat exchangers. Temps run about 180 degrees, which I hear is normal. When I do these spirited runs it stays around that level but then the temp climbs about 10+ degrees when I idle it down. The stb can get close to 200. Is this what others are seeing?

Thoughts??

Thanks

Steven

View the latest post Winterize Generator Muffler

I was winterizing my Carver 46MY, ran antifreeze through the gen and noticed the muffler has a water pickup but no strainer or anyway to get antifreeze in. Do I have to remove the water intake hose from the pickup and drain it out? Help please
thanks

View the latest post ISO deck hardware for 2006 41CPMY

Two magnetic catches are missing or broken, one for the walk through door on the upper sundeck to the stairs going down, other catch missing is the transom door. The magnets are missing and other small mounting pieces. Anyone have source for this kind of item for Carvers? New purchase so I'm sure I'll need an on going source. I've done an internet search with no luck. Thanks

View the latest post Found A Mechanic Who Will fix My Transmission

Last week I got a tip from a fellow Boat Club member on who to get to fix my transmission. Yesterday on my way down to my boat I stopped at Humbug Marina in Gibraltar Michigan to talk to the transmission guy. I explained my issues and he gave me a probable synopsis. I most likely, because it is stuck in forward, have fused clutch plates.

He gave me a rough estimate based on what I told him. He estimates around 2K should fix the problem. I hope his estimate is in the ballpark. I was planning on up to 4K.

So, this upcoming winter season I will store my boat there at Humbug. He said that after they get all the boats winterized, including mine he will then work on the transmission. I am lucky I caught him as he is retiring next February and he comes highly recommended by a couple of my fellow club members.

Of course I won't know how well its done until I launch next spring. Finally moving in the right direction getting this issue fixed.

Hi fellow boat lovers ! Picked up a 1984 3207 with 270 Crusaders. She was dirty and sad, second owner had her two years as her first boat, but was scared to drive it. I saw under the dirt and stole it $16,000 Canadian ! Drove her home 70kms across Georgian bay in 6ft rollers topped with white caps, handled and ran beautifully. Been spending lots of time with her and she's feeling a lot better. Scrubber her down, bilge to the bridge. Most everything works, must have tightened 400 screws. Flushed out the water system, put in two 27 series deep cells in new boxes and strapped them down. She's almost ready for our first overnighter.

Cheers everyone

View the latest post New Guy

Hello friends:
New to boating and planning on a 30 ish aft cabin Carver, I love the layout and open design.

Question (of many) are they hard to get in and out of? I have some older folks I'd love to include from time to time.

It looks like some models just have a ladder, can you side enter? Sorry I am new to this world.

Thanks!

DB
